Garbage in - garbage out.  I drank too much soda yesterday and definitely felt it this morning.  Absolutely no power in my legs at all and felt pretty lousy all over.  Understanding why I felt this way made it easier to make it through the run.

Is it the sugar, the caffeine, or the carbonation that you think is the problem?

My feeling is that it is the sugar and other crap that goes into soda. I do not feel that carbonation and caffeine are performance inhibitors.

Awesome. I've experimented with long periods of abstaining from Diet Soda vs. pounding large quantities of it on a regular basis (like now) and i haven't noticed any quantifiable effect on my running.

I don't notice a big difference if I have less than 20 oz a day. The biggest hit on my performance is the extra weight that I carry because of the empty calories. I am 10 pounds heavier than my ideal racing weight but I don't want to be that thin. That is the reason I still drink it.

Nice job with the miles! :)

I wish my nutrition was better...I love my candy though so this time of the year is really hard!

Nice run

The Diet Dew, on the other hand, is an elixir. :)

Ditto to what Paul said.

That refined sugar is for sure a problem for long term performance (as you know) and I have found that diet sodas prevent the body from getting rid of fat tissue even though it doesn't contain calories. Your right on Andy - those chemicals effect our bodies. When I am training a lot and trying to maintain my weight I eat a lot of nuts and seeds and whole fruit v.s. soda to keep my calories up. Just an idea.
