Did a test run of the course of a local 5k that I am going to run in a couple of weeks.  Has a lot of little ups and downs so I got in a little hill work.  Felt decent during the run except for the right ankle.  Definitely felt better when I ran a little faster.

Amazing how that works. Your feeling aches and pains then kick up the pace and you feel better. Whats the name of the 5k your planning on doing it?? Is it a turkey trot??

It is crazy, but I notice the same thing. Do you think it has anything to do with running with better form when running faster? I can't explain it!

Nice job!

Baby the ankle still!

From Andy on Thu, Sep 24, 2009 at 12:49:26 from 159.212.71.199

It is definitely due to better form with faster running. That is why striders are part of so many running plans.

From Teena on Thu, Sep 24, 2009 at 12:50:31 from 67.177.20.13

What are striders? I keep seeing people blog about strides, etc. I have no idea what they are!

From Huans32 on Thu, Sep 24, 2009 at 12:51:20 from 138.64.2.76

I think its that just that. Your form is better and your more efficent in that form.

I am glad to see your feeling better Andy.

They are 80-150 meter accelerations. According to Pfitz: "Accelerate smoothly up to full speed and then hold your maximal speed without straining..... Striders not only increase your stride rate, they also lead to improved running technique..... Striders are an excellent way to improve running technique because running fast accentuates style flaws. Striders train you to run fast but relaxed, while focusing on good running form."

Hmmm ... perhaps I need to get his book. I would have no idea how and when to implement them. I need a coach! Do you have to be fast to hire a coach???

From Andy on Thu, Sep 24, 2009 at 13:08:12 from 159.212.71.199

Even if you had to be fast to hire a coach, you are certainly fast enough. If you do start implementing striders, do 8-10 during one of your runs during the week. You can rest as long as you want in between each one because the purpose of them is to improve your running technique, not your cardiovascular system.

From Teena on Thu, Sep 24, 2009 at 13:11:51 from 67.177.20.13

Okay, I am going to start trying to do them. Should I wait until after SGM?

From Andy on Thu, Sep 24, 2009 at 13:13:01 from 159.212.71.199

Don't do anything between now and SGM that you haven't already done.

That would be so like me ... to do something totally new and get completely injured in the hopes that it would be the cure-all for my pain!! :)

Oh man!!!

I need your common sense!!! :)

NICE test run, Andy! WAY to pay attention to the little kinks! GOOD LUCK on your 5K! I need to overcome my fear of 5Ks.

From Andy on Thu, Sep 24, 2009 at 18:16:49 from 198.60.114.178
