Epic failure!  Quite possibly my worst run ever.  Mentally I was not ready for today's run.  I was 3 pounds lighter this morning than I was yesterday morning so I was starting the run a little dehydrated.  I was overly cautious during the run and drank a lot more than I usually do.  Started out slow and continued to get slower.  Stopped at the grocery store at the halfway point to get some more Gatorade and a bottle of water.  At 16 miles I arrived at a park and just laid in the shade for a while.  I was close to my sister's and considered going to get a ride home but decided to try to tough it out.  Made it 2 more miles and had to take a break again.  After 20 miles I decided to walk the last mile home. The good thing about the run was that my legs do not feel like I have run at all today.  The last few miles were at a 9:00/mile pace.  Even when I hit the wall in a marathon, I can keep the pace in the 7's.  Hopefully I won't be too trashed for the 1/2 marathon next week.  I drank 4 times more than I normally do on a long run and still lost 6 pounds.

DANG!!!!!

(Btw, just because your legs don't feel like they ran a 20 miler doesn't mean you should consider running another one tomorrow!!!!)

Congrats to your girls! That is AWESOME!

Andy, I had a real lousy run yesterday to and I think alot of it has to do with the heat and we're not getting hydrated well enough... Don't be to hard on yourself, sometimes the old body just doesn't want to co-operate;) Nice job on loging the miles and staying with it.

Teena - I hadn't thought of that. Maybe I'll give it a try. Thanks for the idea.

Clay - The run didn't really bum be out because I understood what was happening. Maybe I have lost my edge. These runs used to kill my confidence.

A wise friend once told me that we can't *cram* hydration. Thanks for another reminder to be diligent with my fluid intake during these hot summer days. WAY to push through a tough 20 miler.

I am sure your body and mind will be ready for the 1/2 on Sat.!

Andy...Your run sounds limilar to how I feel during every marathon and long run. Way to tough it out!!!

Epic failure? I think not. My biggest epic failure was the year of the monsoon at STG. I don't know what happened but by Veyo I was sick, dizzy and done. Stll finished but was not happy about anything. Silver lining, that run and all my bad ones are now my fuel at the end of races. Also, 20 in the bank is still 20 in the bank. Your balance just increased.

I like that saying 20 in the bank is 20 in the bank...what did you say to me the other day when I had a bad work out...hummm one workout doesn't a season make.

and it was really hot!
