I'm moving this week's runs around on the schedule.  I wanted to take advantage of yesterday's full day of rest and run the 15 miler today.  The first 5 miles of today's run were virtually pain free.  I actually felt like a real runner for the first time in a long time.  The achilles got progressively more achey throughout the run but the discomfort was manageable.  It was encouraging to have a run that started so well and I was able to maintain a decent pace throughout the run.  All in all, a good way to start the week.

Total Time: 1:53:18 (7:33/mile)

Good running Andy. Nice pace for that distance.

SWEET! Glad to hear you're feeling like a real runner! NICE run to start off the week!

I have a question! Your pain comes later in the run whereas mine are in the beginning of the run. Is one better than the other? I'd rather have no pain ANY time during the run! I guess I'm just extra paranoid about injury right now.

Hopefully you are talking about training pain and not injury pain. You should not run through injury pain (do as I say not as I do). My Achilles hurts more towards the end of the run because of the inflammation caused by over use. I can really feel it grind in the sheath after a run but the grinding goes away later in the day and the pain decreases as the inflammation is reduced.

I always thought that pain at the beginning of a run that decreases as you warm up is a result of the increased blood flow and you are alright to run through that.

Maybe some aspiring PT could provide a better answer. I just make things up as I go along.

I'm hoping it's training pain! Thanks for pointing out the difference. Such a fine line between optimal training and over training. I guess there's no such thing as painfree running.

This is a big miles week for you. Hope that achilles settle down! May be some aspiring PT could work some magic for ya!

I'm glad to hear you had a good run. Before you know it this achiles thing is going to be a thing of the past.
