Ran the first 3 miles at an easy pace then decided to run a few quicker paced miles just to start exposing my legs to faster running again.  I've been running everything at the same pace for a few months so I was curious to see how the faster pace felt.  The next 3 miles were 6:38, 6:35 and 6:35.  The pace was never comfortable but it wasn't as difficult as I expected.  The last mile felt especially clunky but I think that it shouldn't take too much work to get back to where I want to be.  (I just re-read my post and realized that it didn't make very much sense.  I guess the bad air made my brain malfunction.)

I think you're right. With the huge aerobic base you have built up you will be back in top shape before you know it.

From fly on the wall on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 11:46:16

I'm sure you'll be back in no time.

Where are you running that fast? Are you holding your breath or breathing the air outside?

From Kathie on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 13:06:31

You are back! I'm with fly and wondering if you are breathing in this soup!

From Andy on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 13:11:08

I just saw a news story that said that the Utah air isn't as bad as it seems. Of course, the study was done by a BYU professor so I doubt it is very accurate. Yes, I am running outside and know that I shouldn't be but I like to live dangerously.

From Smooth on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 13:37:50

Right, Mr. Consistency living dangerously, breathing questionable Utah air. Your doubt on the accuracy of the Y professor's study tells me that the bad air does indeed cause the brain malfunction.

BTW, nice run with those speedy 3 miles there. You'll be dropping those paces in no time!!!

From Kathie on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 15:02:16

Do you run with scissors too?

Would you trust anything that came from the Y? Do you skip Ed Eyestone's article in runners World?

Wondering minds want to know?

Oh man ... this was a fun post to read! Good timing.

Seriously Andy ... you are TOO fast!

Nice job and nice commentary. So funny!!

From fly on the wall on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 19:26:58

What news story did you see Andy?

Not this one- http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,705279323,00.html

The only positive things I've found about our air is that it is not as dirty as it used to be http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,655192366,00.html BUT that is based on annual averages. Annual averages aren't doing much for me durring this temporary inversion.

From Andy on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 20:32:58

So I misquoted the story (I have a tendency to do that). You are right, it would be better if I didn't run in this garbage but I personally find it better than the alternative.

From fly on the wall on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 23:55:26

Darn, I was hoping you found some good news.

I'm not sure what's better for me, running on the dreadmill, skipping a run all together, or breathing outside?????? I skipped today but that was mainly because it's a recovery week after Painter's. I need to start a new training program.....
