Running Accomplishments:

I was a much better runner in my 20's and 30's.  When I was 52 I had a 28.5 5K and a 58.5 10K, and I would like to surpass those times.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Run a 1/2 marathon.  I would actually love to run a full marathon, but am not sure if my body would break down with injuries training for one.  Update fall 2010: still no 1/2 marathon, but I did run all the way up city creek and back home (14 miles)  - absolutely gorgeous!!

Personal:

My name is Adele Kimbrough - I'm 58 and have been running (off and on) since I was 16.  My body is not well designed for speed, and I'm a bit arthritic, but I'm having fun trying to figure out just how fast I can be.  And this blog helps!

2011 Deseret News 10K Finish Line.
Dang - missed my goal by 4 seconds!

This wasn't running, but a hike up in Millcreek Canyon Terraces to Elbow Fork & back.  6 miles, 1120 elevation gain.  Got my breathing and heart rate going pretty good during the climbing portions, thanks to Cindy for keeping a kicka-- pace!

And just for 2013 I'm giving myself permission to post hiking miles on my log.

11 am and pretty hot.  Ran to salt shed and back (needed to stop twice for a few seconds to catch my breath while running up hill).  I'm in pretty bad shape, but managed 5-6 mini (slow) strides on 12th Avenue while heading home.  My burning behind knee nerve pain flared while running the 2nd mile, but seems fine now.

wow, made it to the city creek gate and back!  No watch, but very slow, probably 2-3 minutes PER MILE slower than I used to do this run.  But considering a few months ago I wasn't sure I would ever be able to run again, I am happy!

nerves flared quite a lot on the hill from 11th to 12th, but otherwise not bad at all.  took my usual 20 second break at the shady truck tractor at the top of the hill.

Another slow run to city creek gate & back.  Usual stops at the water fountain and shady flat bed truck.  Usual random flaring nerves.  :)

up to city creek pa 5.  Cool on the shady road and enchanted by the sweet morning songs emanating around me.  One of those slow, slow runs - fresh brewed coffee and mint milanos, though immensely enjoyable, do not constitute the breakfast of champions.

Up to city creek pa1 and then back home.  Beat the heat a bit today - this has been the summer of sweltering unrelenting high temps!

Up to city creek pa 5 and back home.  Felt pretty good running today except for the late start and warm temps.

Up to city creek 1/2 mile marker and back home.  Marvelously cooler this morning and I coaxed a quicker turnover coming down the canyon.  It felt quite nice.

nice cool cloudy day running up to city creek gate and back home.  felt good running today and I ran some mini strides (using longer strides) on the way home on 12th.

so, it's garbage day, and I saw a nice looking barely used broom sticking out of a garbage can.  being a lot better looking than my current broom, i went to see if i should ressurect it and give it a new home. but, the whole garbage can stunk to high heaven of dirty diapers, so i decided that some things are better left alone and untouched . . .

up a little past the city creek one mile marker and back home.  finished at high noon & 91 degrees - ugh, not even any shade the final mile home - that should make everything else i do today seem easy!
