Running Accomplishments:

I was a much better runner in my 20's and 30's.  When I was 52 I had a 28.5 5K and a 58.5 10K, and I would like to surpass those times.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Run a 1/2 marathon.  I would actually love to run a full marathon, but am not sure if my body would break down with injuries training for one.  Update fall 2010: still no 1/2 marathon, but I did run all the way up city creek and back home (14 miles)  - absolutely gorgeous!!

Personal:

My name is Adele Kimbrough - I'm 58 and have been running (off and on) since I was 16.  My body is not well designed for speed, and I'm a bit arthritic, but I'm having fun trying to figure out just how fast I can be.  And this blog helps!

Really worried about starting this run, because I was afraid I'd either  (1) Chicken out of doing my planned workout, or (2) I just wouldn't feel well enough to finish the workout.  Ended up feeling better than expected, tho, which was a very pleasant surprise. 

1 mile warm up
6 reps of 1/2 mile (6.5 mph @ 1.5%), with 1/4 mile slow jog recoveries between them. 
1 mile cool down

It would've been nice to be running at 7 mph instead of 6.5 mph, but this was still my best effort in several weeks, and it was sure nice to feel positive while running for a change!   Lots of stretching afterwards, which felt really good because I have been pretty lax about stretching lately.

Hope everyone is having a nice run; looks like some nice warm weather might finally be coming our way!

I'm glad you had a good run today! Runs like those are the reason why we all run!

Just curious: Does your treadmill go up and down to simulate hills when you have it on the incline? It seems like you might be setting yourself up for unnecessary hardship, given that you are always running uphill and never getting the benefit of a downhill.

Tracy, I can pust buttons to increase/decrease the incline. I think treadmills are all callibrated differently, and that setting my treadmill to 1-1.5% most closely correlates to the effort I feel while running on "flat" ground. I don't like running on my TM with the incline set at 0-.5% - it feels extremely easy, and seems really bouncy for some reason.

I'm surrounded by hills where I live, so when I do run outside I get to run down a lot of hills. But then I have to turn around and run up all those hills!!

"Our way" isn't wrong grammatically. It's just kind of vague. I'll be the other part of her "we." The weather is improving here.

I often feel apprehensive about a workout when I first start running, but then I get warmed up and manage to do it after all.

Burt, I can see you're bummed because if we get nice weather "up here" your weather will probably get astronomically way too hot to run! This weekend Salt Lake City should get up to a whopping 69* and 73* with partly cloudy conditions (sounds pretty luxurious after the last two weeks of cold rainy weather!)
