Running Accomplishments:

I was a much better runner in my 20's and 30's.  When I was 52 I had a 28.5 5K and a 58.5 10K, and I would like to surpass those times.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Run a 1/2 marathon.  I would actually love to run a full marathon, but am not sure if my body would break down with injuries training for one.  Update fall 2010: still no 1/2 marathon, but I did run all the way up city creek and back home (14 miles)  - absolutely gorgeous!!

Personal:

My name is Adele Kimbrough - I'm 58 and have been running (off and on) since I was 16.  My body is not well designed for speed, and I'm a bit arthritic, but I'm having fun trying to figure out just how fast I can be.  And this blog helps!

2011 Deseret News 10K Finish Line.
Dang - missed my goal by 4 seconds!

Had to get to work early, so just a short run to City Creek gate and back.  Left earlier than usual and it felt refreshingly cooler than my previous runs.  I threw in 5 to 6 faster strides to get my legs used to turning over faster.

Des News 10K on Saturday - sure wish I hadn't missed over 6 weeks of training!  I "think" I'm signed up for it . . . I filled out the entry form at the Salt Lake Running Company on Saturday, and they needed check or cash, so I gave them cash since I didn't have a check with me.  They said I would not receive a receipt, then stapled my money to my entry form and just slid it into a big manilla envelope with all the other entry forms, and then put the manilla envelope on the counter and walked off to help another customer.  Hum, doesn't seem very secure, but I guess I'll find out when I pick up my race packet . . .

Good luck with the race, if in fact you're registered.

Carolyn, Thanks, I'm not sure what to expect on Saturday. Normally I would have practiced running at a "fast but sustainable pace" to get a feel for what my pace should be. Since I wasn't able to do that, I guess I'll just have to play it by ear! At least I've got my full range of motion back, and I am very happy not to be running with pain, so I consider that good progress!! I hope your nagging pains go away soon, too.

PS: Oh yea, I'll be really ticked off if they don't have a registration packet for me!!!

Yep, that is all they do. Haven't had a problem though. They did give you your number at the time? Or do you pick it up tomorrow when you grab a shirt? Have fun!!! This will be the first time since I moved to UT that I won't be at the start line :(... So you will have to run for both of us :)!

Thanks Adam. No they didn't give me a number, so I'll keep my fingers crossed that they have a packet for me to pick up!

Dang, that's a disappointment that you won't be running! I'll do my best to represent us, but I'm sure not running as fast as I was a few months ago, and probably my time will end up being twice what your time would've been! (You would do better to have your speedy wife represent you!)
