Thanks coach...I literally have zero plans to run any marathons this year, as much as I'd like to....or any races, for that matter. A full time job and school have been keeping me pretty busy, as well as settling into my new life. My son decided to move in with me a few months ago, which is absolutely fantastic!

I think next year things will settle down and then I'll start rackin' up the miles to prepare for SGM 2019! My goal weight for next year is between 155 and 160 lbs. I can do it, piece of cake. I've lost 50 lbs. over this past year, so 10 to 15 more shouldn't be hard.

Hello Rhett! When my last streak ended, I was only 30 days away from a one year streak...So I'm still chugging along, trying to get into that elusive running streak club. LOL. I'll keep going. It's rather easy when it's very low mileage. The true test will be once I begin training for marathons (most likely next year), while trying to keep the streak alive and well.

I need to figure out why I'm not getting email notifications when someone replies. I'll look into that.

Last night at work was rough....VERY rough.  Here at work I got to experience the wrong end of harassment, homophobia, and transphobia.......by none other than....my best friend?  WHAT!?! 

She had me fooled for a long time.  For the past year she told me she completely supported me in every way possible and that she had lesbian friends and understood everything. (Yes, I am a lesbian and a transgender woman, in case anyone isn't aware).

Last night, completely out of the blue, unprovoked, and unexpectedly, she lashed out at me and went on a tirade that lasted most of the night.  She obviously knows nothing about me and how I've suffered my entire life, living in a body that does not match the gender with which I identify.  I would gladly share the final text message she sent to me.  The very text message that hurt me deeply, more than I've ever been hurt in my entire life....BUT....That's not who I am. 

I am not out to seek revenge, but I would like to share with anyone that reads this, just how disturbed I am about the whole incident and to remind everyone to be careful.  There are still hateful, misinformed, judgemental, discriminatory, prejudiced, narrow-minded bigots out there, even the people that you thought you knew.  People you trust and hold close to your heart. Now THAT's a scary thought and I just lived it.  Obiously, she is no longer my friend. 

I have a moral obligation to report her actions to the higher-ups, because it happened here at work.  I work for the federal government and that type of behavior is not tolerated.

I'm still feeling the sting 24 hours later :(

Each person is loved by God and we should all show love and compassion to everyone else even when we can't completely understand what they have gone through and are going through. You are so correct, this road is very difficult and it's been getting a little rougher each week. I am so grateful for so many people that have been accepting and supportive. I'm still pretty bummed about the things she said to me. While I'm normally very forgiving, what she said is unforgivable. In all honesty, I was finally coming out of my shell and being more outgoing and gaining self-confidence. I was finding it easier to talk to people. But now, I feel as though her comments have pushed me back even further, and that's not good. I'm trying so very hard to not let one person take me down, but one person's words stick with you forever.

But you know what? I'll be ok. Everything is going to be fine.

Thank you for your sweet comment. Happiness is What's most important to me. I do not best to find positivity in everything. The positive that comes from this is, she is a very negative person, and no longer in my life. That's a big positive, in my opinion.

Hey there Mr. Burt. I know you well enough that you wouldn't intentionally hurt me or anyone else, for that matter. You're a good person with an awesome sense of humor. You are correct that I am a transgender lesbian. Although, technically, because I identify as female and have always felt like a female that was born with the wrong body, I like to think of it this way; I AM a woman and and I am taking the necessary steps to transform my body to match the gender with which I identify. I hope that makes sense.

In case I haven't mentioned this before, I have suffered from what is called Gender Dysphoria Disorder. It is a disorder that is more common than a lot of people are aware and it doesn't only affect males that identify as female, but equally as much for females that identify as male. Over the past few years, now that it is becoming more well known, a lot of younger people Are coming forawrd and transitoning at a younger age, which is great.

But no worries, Burt, I also have an awesome sense of humor and I can laugh at myself about this stuff. For instance, when I wake up in the morning and look in the mirror and see my face, which happens to appear 30 years older than my body, I say to myself, "Dang, you are one ugly woman with a rockin' bod." Then I laugh out loud. LOL. Laughing is a great way to start the day. LOL. Am I right?!

I have posed the question before from a Mormon standpoint - is it possible that a female spirit could come to earth and inhabit a male body? I then was rebuked by other people who say that there is no way God would make a mistake like that. But things happen all the time. Does God really send each spirit into the body that it needs to inhabit? I don't know. I know that, well I believe that, there is no one person that I'm "destined" to be with for all eternity. You meet someone. You fall in love. You work on eternity together. But there are times when the hand of God is in it. Does every single missionary get sent to the mission they were "destined" to go go? Nope. More often than not, they're filling the voids. But there are times when the hand of God is in it. So I don't know, and nor do they. Only God knows.

Hey Mr.Burt, it's interesting, because I have had this debate many times with my ex-wife since December. First let me state that I am not a religious person, never have been...but I believe in God, through no particular religion. I don't have anything against religion at all, its just not for me. Now I'll get back to my story....My ex-wife, who grew up in an LDS family, has posed the same question, "God would not make a mistake like that. Why would God do that to people?" I tried to look at it and explain it from many standpoints. It finally hit me one day, and I explained that to her in these words, (But first, please excuse me if I say any of this the wrong way, it's not my intention to discredit any region or offend anyone, whatsoever). I said this to her, "God creates each of us, but once the child is in the womb, biology takes over. These changes occur during the biological process while the baby is growing." I then began to explain about chromosomes and this and that. She seemed satisfied after that conversation, but whether she believes it or not, that's ok because that's her opinion and I respect other people's opinions whether we agree or not. But honestly, I believe biology is the major player. But I also believe, if I were religious, that if God did create people this way, then there was a good reason for doing it. I don't look at it as a bad thing. We're still people with feelings and minds who can love just like everyone else. I tell my daughter, who happens to be struggling with I1, that I am still the exact same person inside that I've always been. I still have the same goofy sense of humor, I still love to run, I still love working on guitars, I still love learning psychology, etc., etc. I pray, yes, I do pray to God, that she will come around, eventually, and be ok with it. I pray quite often for those who are suffering. Does it help? I don't know, but I hope it helps.

All I know is, while I am under a great deal of stress and anxiety as I've come out to people I know and care about, and really stressing about coming out at work in the near future, I am happier than I've ever been in my entire life, because I can finally be me. :)

Another belief many in the LDS church have is that children born with Down Syndrome or other mental ailments were put here this way because of their nobility or their roll in the war in Heaven wherein they proved themselves, and therefore they only need to come to earth to obtain a physical body. Now I believe that to be the case with some. But with all of them? I don't think so. I believe biology can take over, also. It's part of life. But what do I know?

Thank you my friend. Running is the only constant in my life and I think I would be lost if I missed a day.

I'm not sure when I'll be signing up for a marathon with how busy I am with school. I will eventually though. Plus I'm going to try and drop 15 to 20 more lbs and that'll help immensely

Sorry I've been away for so long.  The past couple of months have been extraordinarily busy. So busy that I just about lost my mind. Not only super busy, but the hormones have been having their way with me.  Ha!  Never in my life have I cried so much :)  I'm like, "Come on Addie, get a grip!!!"

I'm closing in on 300 consecutive days of running and pretty darn close to 200 days on Hormone Replacement Therapy.  The changes I'm experiencing, not only physically and emotionally, but cognitively, as well.  I think of so many things differently now.

I'll have more to write about tomorrow.  Some good things are coming my way over the next couple of weeks. : )

Thanks Rhett!!! I can't believe it either, considering how unbelievably hectic my life has been over the past year. I do wish I was running more miles per day, but I'll take what I can, when I can.

Last year I was so close to a full year of running, but after we separated, living out of hotels took its toll on me and I missed nearly a full month of running and had to start over. But I'm glad I did, because running gives me some peace of mind, even if only for a short time each day, and that makes me happy :)

This was a big day for me. I had my six month appointment with my doctor providing hormones. When she walked into the room, her mouth dropped to the floor and I'm like "huh?" She said she was astonished at how much I've changed, physically, over the first six months. She went on to say that it takes most people 5 years to reach the size of certain attributes that I have acquired ;) She thinks I'll grow even bigger in that area. That's what I like to hear. She also added progesterone to my daily regimen. So far, so good. Later, while at work, tonight is the big night they will announce to everyone at work that I am transitioning in the workplace. First there would be a diversity training class from 6:30 pm to 7:30. After the class is when the announcement was made and they provided a question and answer session for the next half hour. I was told to not attend the training to give everyone a chance to voice their concerns, if they had any. Apparently, it went over very well with everyone, as far as my manager could tell. She said there was a lot of clapping and cheering and she heard people saying how brave I am for doing this. That was very nice to hear. Whew!!! I'm so glad that's out of the way. The future looks bright. I guess I better wear shades, right? :)

I really should post what other exercises I do, in addition to running.

Since may 1st, I've been doing 50 squats with my own body weight.  I've lways had such weak leg strength and I figured doing it with my own body weight for a few months is a good way to start.  Eventualy I'll put on the weight vest.

Every other day, I do walking lunges.  I don't count how many, I just do them until I feel like it's enough.

I also do a lot of full body motion workouts, without weights. 

A few days ago I started balancing exercises.  That's something I've needed to do for a long time to build up my feet and ankle strength.

Hey Coach! Thanks! I've been doing the full body motion workouts for several months and then in May, my son, Cody, wanted me to do a pushup challenge with him of 50 Every day, but I'm trying not to bulk up my upper body, so I compromised with him and did 50 squats every day, while he did the pushups. I can't tell you how much of a difference it has made with my running! I feel much stronger. Honestly, I feel better at age 48 than I ever did when I was younger.

Hmmmm, when will I do another organized race? That's an excellent question. I feel as though I've been fortunate to squeeze in the workouts that I've been doing every day. I can't believe how busy I've been for the past several months. It's so insane. However, I am working on balancing out everything so I can actually have more time to do the things I want to do. I don't know how other people with busy schedules find the time to do everything they need to do. Lol. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm still not sure when I'll do another organized race. But when I do, I want to be at peak performance. One benefit for me running every day is that I no longer take walk breaks. In fact, it's been 13 months since I last walked during a run. That's pretty cool to me. LOL

Hey there, Rhett! How are you doing? Yes indeed, I totally agree with you. I do anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes of exercises after each run and it makes a huge difference. I'm considering starting up with some yoga. I'll think about it some more. I don't want to be doing too much and getting burned out or injured like I was in the past.

So, looking at the calendar, my 365th consecutive day of running will be on August 22nd! I will run 36.5 miles that day. JK. I will run 3.65. Hehe :)

The other day I signed up to volunteer at the Loveloud Festival this coming Saturday trust Rice-Eccles stadium at the University of Utah. I will be volunteering from noon until most likely, 2 or 3 am. I'm super excited. Not only do we volunteer, but we get to match the concerts as well. Imagine Dragons is the headliner. The first act takes the stage at 3 pm.

Today I was asked by the director of the foundation if I could come help set up for the press conference on Friday so I said I would be glad to. I came to work for a couple of hours, drove down to Salt Lake, spent a few hours with a group of 8 amazing people. We got it all set up and then I drove back to Ogden and went back to work. Fun times. Everyone was super nice to me and giving me hugs and saying look beautiful. I'm very humble, but it was nice hearing such nice things and I love hugs. I'll take a hug anytime!!!

VERY BIG DAY TODAY!!!

~~I had the hearing for my name and gender marker change; it was scheduled for 2:30 PM.  I had been waiting and preparing for this hearing for months.  I needed to be prepared, because judges have been denying gender changes.  I had done a lot of research on the damaging psychological effects of Gender Dysphoria Disorder (luckily I’m getting my Bachelor’s degree in psychology, so I already knew quite a bit), and I did research on the legal side of the spectrum.  Once I found out which judge was assigned to my case, I did research on her to find out anything I could that would help me. 

Earlier in the day on August 6th, I got a call from the courthouse saying they will need to reschedule, so, I decided to come work some overtime, as it was my Monday off.  I left home at 2:00  pm, and just as I was nearing work, I got another call from the courthouse; they made a mistake and meant to call someone else to reschedule! I told them I was nearby and would be there shortly (it was now 2:20 pm).  I had 10 minutes to get there, find parking and run from my car to the entrance nearly a block away.  I ran up the stairs and made it to the courtroom exactly at 2:30! 

There were three other cases along with mine; the judge saved mine for last, thank goodness.  The other three cases only took about 10 to 15 minutes each; normally, name and gender change hearings don’t take very long. She may have anticipated that mine would be much longer because of a letter I wrote to her the week before, explaining the importance of transgender people, whom suffer from Gender Dysphoria Disorder, being allowed to have their gender markers legally changed.

I took a great deal of time writing that letter and I even included a very fitting quote from her (the judge).  I found the quote from an interview she had done in September of 2017, before she took the bench as the first female judge in this district; the quote read:

“One person can really change the trajectory of future generations.  I think it’s easy to become cynical about people saying they want to change, and never do.  But I know it can be done.  And if I can be a person that inspires people to do better, even if it’s one person, one person’s life is a big deal to me.  I wouldn’t underestimate people because I know they can change, and they can build their life any direction that is positive if they want to.” 

After that quote, I told her that by granting the gender change, she would literally be changing the trajectory of, not only my life but, future generations, as well. 

We began my hearing around 3:15 pm and I was prepared to be there all night if I needed to. We had several discussions regarding gender issues and the psychological effects that occur with people that are transgender and suffer from Gender Dysphoria Disorder.  We also had discussions about past, current and upcoming attempts to change legislation. I went in well prepared to discuss these issues with her because, currently, there is no legislation in our state in which judges can have guidance to make determinations on whether or not they should grant gender changes.

She said my letter was very thoughtful, thought-provoking, and inspiring and thanked me for writing the letter. She also mentioned that she was, initially, going to deny my gender change, because of the lack of legislation. However, after she told me that, she happily informed me that I had educated her very well on gender issues throughout the hearing, and that she had learned quite a bit that she hadn’t previously known.

She commended me for being so passionate and wanting to help others with gender issues, and then told me that I clearly know what I’m talking about, and I’m very courageous, and praised me for knowing quite a bit about the legal side. She apologized that I had suffered with Gender Dysphoria Disorder most of my life, and noted that I am obviously not doing this on a whim. She then told me I looked beautiful and said, “Congratulations, miss Addison Quinn Gardiner!  I will grant the name AND gender change, and I wish you nothing but the best with your future as, not only a therapist, but as a female therapist!” 

I sat there speechless, with happy tears rolling down my cheeks. The bailiff brought over a box of tissues and I wiped away the tears of joy, but they kept coming. Haha. The judge was leaning her chin on her hand and looking at me with such a pleasant smile. Once I composed myself, I told her thank you for listening to me and for not dismissing anything I said and told her how huge this was to me and so many others that have been rooting for me. I asked if I could shake her hand and she said she would be honored to shake my hand. Wow!  I said goodbye and began making my way to exit the courtroom.

Just as I got to the doors, over the microphone, she said, "Miss Gardiner....hold your head high and be very proud of yourself for this accomplishment. You did something today that not many people can say they have done. You educated a judge during your own hearing. You literally inspired me today and not many people have ever done that!  Miss Gardiner, you are one of the most amazing people I have ever met in my life, and I am honored that I got the chance to meet you. Now I want to thank you. I want to thank you because, from here on out, I won't have to deny so many gender changes. You weren't only fighting for yourself, you were fighting for a lot of people. Be proud, be very, very proud!"  Then she asked if she could give me a hug, and that's a no brainer. I'll take a hug any time, any day. Hugs are the best!!! 
We hugged and said goodbye and I exited the courtroom. Right outside the door there is a bench. I sat right down on that bench and just soaked it all in for nearly 45 minutes. Then I went out to the car and sat there for another 45 minutes, just savoring all of it. 😊  Best day EVER!!!

Sorry it took me such a long time to FINALLY post nearly one month of runs.  But hey, I did it!!!  I completed one full year of running at least one mile every day.  I have no plans to stop and I'll keep going as long as my body (or mind) will allow.  Bring on year number 2 of the running streak!!!
