Pre- High School- I did a few local races, such as 4th of July/charity 5ks. I mainly just ran for fun, and to get a feel for running. I didn't do a lot of training or workouts until Jr. High track started. As high school got closer, i started to get more serious.

Freshman Year- I decided to run xc for Weber High School. I ran very little over the summer, and had a rough start to the season. Despite the rough start, I got faster and was able to run on the varsity team more often than not. I dropped my 3 mile time to 17:04, but didn't make it to State. I finnished the season at Footlocker west regionals. I didn't prepare well and placed 22nd in the freshman race. (4th from Utah) Indoor track started and I wanted to break 5 really bad, but ended up running 5:02 at Simplot. When outdoor track started I was really anxious to win. I practiced with the high school as much as possible, despite running for Snowcrest Jr. High. I won a few outdoor meets, and dropped my mile time to a 4:40. At the district meet I took 2nd in the mile to Bronson Winter. During the 800m, I got a PR of 2:07.

Sophomore Year- I put in a good summer of running and was super excited for xc. I was now the 2nd man on the team. I had some really great races and continued to improve. I finished the regular season with a 16:00 5k. At footlocker west, i had a good race but not quite where i had hoped. Indoor came around and i had some nice PR's before i got bursitis in my left knee. Got better and transitioned to outdoor where the season started off well. After running my PR of 4:23 1600m, i got really sick and never got back to 100% during the season. I ended up at 9:41 for 2 miles, and 2:05 800m. I didn't have the performance I wanted at state, but im ready for the next year.

I will be a Junior at Weber High School this year. I'm LDS, and will be serving a 2 year mission after High School. I love animals, hiking/ fishing with my dad, and running with my friends.

I drove down to Brayden's to go on a run with him today. We ran up to the caves, then down on the canal road which was covered in snow, and to 1050, then just back to his house on the road.

Easy run after the indoor track meeting with the guys. Kyler came this time after a pretty extended break... We just ran down by Orion Jr. High and back. I didn't get a pace on it but it wasn't too fast. Probably around 7:00's

I decided to go to the USU indoor meet tomorrow so I took today easy. I drove over to Wheeler canyon and ran up towards Snowbasin. The trail was pretty packed down so running on the snow wasn't bad but it did slow the pace. That doesn't really matter today cause of the meet prep.

I decided not to run any actual races today and just start the season off with some relay fun. Jake, Talon, Henry, and I raced the 4x800m and the 4x400m. We won both and set both meet records. (The relays at this meet are super slow so it's not a big accomplishment.) If I remember right, my 800m split was 2:11, and the 400 was 1:01. Neither was very fast but it was fun and im mentally ready to run fast at BYU next week.

Started doing morning runs again. I did a pretty fast 3 miles this morning at sub 6 pace.

At practice we did 5.6 with the guys at a 6:28 pace. After the run we went to the weight room and did a mostly lower body workout.

Longer run today. Most of the guys weren't there so it was just Henry and I crankin' it out. We were holding about a 5:50 pace until we hit the canal road and had to run on the snow. After about a mile we ditched it and went back up to the road. We finished with a 6:28 pace.

Today was an indoor circuit workout. We would do various core exercises and strength training, then sprint a lap through to school (about .2 miles) We just kept going for as many as we could in half an hour. After the circuit we cooled down and decided to do the last part of the sprinters "workout" to finish off the cool down cause they were complaining. After all that, we went to Haeli's and had smoothies then a group of us went to Box Elder High and did a pretty good pool workout with Brayen cause he still cant run.

the day started out ok, then just went downhill...

Did a short warm up before the mile then realized i'd left my spikes at my aunts house (where we stayed the previous night) so i had to use Talon's which were a bit small. 20 steps into the race my left shoe came untied and i had to run the whole race with my shoe falling off. I finished in 4:46. Not even close to what i had been hoping for.

About 4 hours later Henry and I ran the 2 mile. This was my first 2 mile ever and i had no idea what the heck i was doing. Didn't feel good at all but finished in 10:15 (slower than my xc two mile split) Not my best day of racing but it's only indoor.

My knee has been bothering me the past couple days so I went to the trainer and she taped it and did an ultra sound but it didn't really work. Went for a painful 4 while the other guys did 6, and im pretty sure they still beat me back... darn

Went to the doctors today. I have intra patellar bursitis. Doc put some stuff on it and said I have to take it easy and stop when it hurts. Guess that means no racing at WSU.

I went to go watch the team run at WSU. I couldn't race today but I went on every warm up and cool down i could to try to get some miles in. It felt good and i should be ready to do some sort of racing next week.

Short warm up then we did some 800 repeats. We were supposed to do 6-7, but i only got 3 in. The fast pace bothered my knee, and it was around the school not on the track, so that didn't really help. Averaged 2:19 on the three.

Finally ran the mile again. I only had time for a short warm up but it wasn't bad. I ended up running a 4:36. Thats a 4 second all time PR and a 10 second season PR. Still not as fast as i wanted but it was great to know that im in decent shape after my injury.

Ran the 800m about an hour later. I ran 2:06, a 1 second PR, but i was pretty dead from the mile.

Helped at the consessions stand for the v ball tournament with Talon, McKenna, Bj, and Jake. Jake and I went for a good 4.5 miler later that evening. Fairly certain that we both contracted cardio-vascular giardia. This inversion is nasty. Thank goodness it's not in the valley.

Drove down to Weber for a run with the guys. It's probably out last day for a good workout before simplot prelims on Thursday. We ran up to the top of 500 west and climbed through the neighborhoods til we hit the north Ogden divide. Then we just weaved through some neighbor hoods until we got back to the school. We tried the canal road for a little but it was still pretty snowy. The run ended up at about 7 miles, 6:30 average. Back at the school we did some 200's on the track and went to Brayden's.

Today was day 2 of the Simplot games. I only raced the 800 in the medley relay today. We  missed finals by .5 seconds, but i was happy, cause i tied my PR. Earlier that day, Talon, Brayden, and I went on an easy 3 run up some little mountain thing to some pillars.

Finally ran with the guys again today. After we witnessed the most intense flip ever from jake smith, we decided to run the trails above 500 W. Jake turned back early cause his tailbone was quite sore from the intense 360 poin flip that i previously mentioned. We ended up running straight down the face on our way back. Everyone was falling through the snow and going down hard. We stopped to extract a cactus, and as you can probably guess, bj screwed up. He just sorta tipped forward and fell straight into the cactus. After much swearing and screams of agony, he finally pulled himself together. We ended our run by exploring the caves. Brayden seems to know them quite well... i wonder why.

Today was another workout on the track. We did 4x600 and 4x200 with a jog recovery. My splits were 1:39, 1:41, 1:41, and 1:38. the 200's were 28's, a 30, and a 27. 

The warm up and cool down got us to 10. 

Later tonight I did an 800 with my little brother. He's just starting but he could be really fast in High school.

Second half of the practice meet was today. Warmed up then ran the mile. We came through 800m pretty slow (2:20) so I decided to just keep up the semi relaxed pace and save energy for big races soon. I got a small negative split and finished in 4:37.

Crazy day today. We drove down to learns for the 4x1600m. Of course, it started to get really windy right before we started. My phone said it was 27 mph, so the back stretch was pretty rough. Not a great race at all but you can't change the weather I guess.

Started with the usual warm up. It was storming pretty bad. There was some killer wind and hail but we still did some repeats. The workout was 8x400m. Splits were 67 each time and I finished with a 60. Jake went super hard and had a last split of 57. We only did a short cool down inside cause it was super cold and we were drenched.

Long run day today. We did the regular warm up on the track then went for 10 miles. Jake and I went off on our own direction while the others did the Orion loop. Jake and I ended up running through the Weber county fair grounds. It was pretty cold and wet but I had a great run. It was my fastest 10 miles to date (5:56 average) Jake was just a couple minutes behind me.

Skyview cam up for the dual meet today. We started out with the mile, and I ran 4:36. I still haven't PR'd since simplot but hopefully I'll get one soon. Next came the 800. It wasn't great but not too bad. I finished in 2:06. Then about 30 minutes later we ran a 4x4. I started off and ran about a 57. I was pretty much just done with the meet at this point so I was glad I was done. It wasn't a hard meet, just not my best.

Got up and drove down to the high school and met Jake and Henry. We did a quick 3.75 then did a short workout on the track. They did 6x200 all out but I decided to do 3x400 faster than mile pace and then 2x200 all out. Splits were: 64, 64, 63, 28, 28

We did warm ups then ran .75 miles to lomond view park for a stepping stone. Today we just went 5 to 1. (5min hard, 5 easy down to 1) did my first mike at 5:03 pace which was a solid pace with the big hill. By the end I was at 4 miles, 6:29 average (including easy run time). Once we were done we ran back to the school and stretched.

Today was the girls part of the Davis super meet. A group of us went down to cheer. All the girls had some really solid races. 

It was rainy and cold so we did our three miles through the Davis halls and a little outside.

Davis super meet was today. Once we got down there I just layed around and cheered on the boys until the mile. Talon and I were in heat 1. The goal for this meet was sub-4:30 and my first 800 was great (2:13)  but I dropped off during the second half but still finished in 4:31. I finally got a good mile PR. I ended up in 4th behind talon, Connor baller, and Adam wood who had a quick last 400. 

A little later I did a short cool down then went home to get warm again.

Warmed up with the whole team then went for 9. I ran with Henry the whole way. We were both not really feeling it but we were holding a good pace. Once we hit the last 3 miles and the uphill, Henry dropped off a bit but I kept going cause I wanted to keep up the 6 minute pace. I was pretty sore and tired but it was a good run.

There wasn't school today but we were supposed to do 4x800 at mike pace with 1:1 recovery. I got to the track and did a warm up. Then of course right as we start the wind kicks up. It got pretty strong and tough to fight through so I cut the workout to 2x800 and 4x400 cause I thought it would be more productive to do more shorter repeats and actually hit the pace instead of doing the actual workout at a slow pace. My splits were: 2:12, 2:18, 66, 65, 65, and 64. It was brutal. The wind sucked and my legs were just tired.

6 miles with Jake today. We went back up on the little trail we found behind the gravel quarry. It was raining so the whole thing was mud and we both just about ate it several times. We did pick ups every 6 minutes so that didn't help either. Despite almost turfing it 90 times, it was a fun run.

City-county is tomorrow so we went super easy. We got the boys together and went adventure running. After 1.5 miles and some crazy river crossings and probable trespassing, we turned around and jumped the fence back to the Weber track (except for Brayden because he's super white and can't even pretend to be able to climb a fence)

Today started out with a great 2 mile. I felt really good the whole time and got a huge PR from my first time. I had a bit left after so I just need to race it more so I can go all out. Pretty soon after the 2 mile I had to do the 800. Let me just say, it was rough. My legs were dead and I ran a 2:07 which happens to be my freshman PR. 

It was still a great day all around.

We're all on spring break now so there's no actual practice but we got some workouts to do. for those of us going to Arcadia, we're going to taper them a little and do easy runs. 

Today we all met on the track for some intervals. The workout was 8x400 with 400m/ 2 minute jog in between. We decided to start out fast and just try to keep it going. I felt great and had awesome splits. They went, 62, 64, 65, 65, 65, 65, 64, 60. I was pretty happy cause even my slowest ones were well under my mile pace. 

Later tonight I went out and did an easy 3.1 with my dad. (About 7 min. Pace)

Arcadia Day 1:

I stayed the night at the Lee's with Ethan cause we left for California super early. We all slept most of the way down. Once we got there we found an abandoned shopping cart so we rode through the streets for a while. Then we spotted a skate park and i attempted the half-pipe (fairly certain my heart rate has never been so high). We went back and had dinner at the rental house, then went for a 5.5 mile group run. Ethan, bj, and i found the most delicious oranges near a cemetery. The weather is perfect for racing. We went back to the house and just relaxed and watched some tv and went to bed.

Arcadia Day 2:

We messed around all day and made continued trips back to the orange tree. We got chased by several dogs but it was pretty fun. We went back to the park and played frisbee basketball and some soccer and just had a fun time. Then we went to the meet and watched the girls kick butt in the 4x800. The boys ran the 4x1600. It did not go as planned to say the least... Everyone just didn't hit at all close to where they should have been. Talon and I did alright (talon- 4:14) and I got a new PR. 4:28. After the meet, we did a long cool down with everyone. I race again tomorrow.

Arcadia Day 3:

Got up early today cause i raced first. I got to the meet and the excitement really hit. I was feeling good after the PR last night and I was ready to go get it. I did a longer warm up and almost missed checking in but i made it. We got out on the track and it was pretty wet and rainy. We did some strides while the other race finished up. I had a really great race and felt strong the whole race. I finished the full mile in 4:25 (4:23 1600m). It was an awsome PR and it felt good to be getting faster. even if it was at sea level. Cooled down later and watched more awesome races. Brayden, Ethan and i partied the rest of the night.

4x mile repeats at shady lane today. We warmed up down to the park then got started. We had a 1.5 min. rest in between so it was tough. Splits went 5:06 (too fast), 5:12, 5:15, and 5:09. After the repeats we did 4x 200 on the grass. I hit 29, 27, 26, and 25 racing the coach. cool down back to the school.

Tri meet today, nothing special. Davis is coming up so the varsity guys didn't do regular races. Jake and I did a 4x400. We alternated 400's so we each ran two with about a 50 second break in between. We used a banana as the baton and somehow still took 2nd. I split a 55 and a 60

I woke up today feeling awful. My stomach hurt, i had a headache, and i couldn't stop coughing. I debated if i should even go to the meet at all today. I decided to go, but i dropped out of the mile. I thought i had enough for a two mile. that was a mistake. I started the race and the first mile was where i wanted to be but from there it just went downhill. I was having trouble breathing due to the coughing and restricted air flow. I finished a little sub 10 but felt terrible. Coughed for the next 9 years.

Im still feeling really awful. I went to the doctors yesterday and got an inhaler that's supposed to help me breathe. They did a test and found out that i've been functioning on 50% lung capacity... not good. 

I decided to just pace the mile today. I won in 4:43. not too impressive because it was mostly jus weber guys running, but Brayden finally broke 5:00. He ran a PR of 4:57

We did a 1.5 mile warm up and then 9x400. I split 63, 64, 64, 64, 63. 64, 64, 62, and 61. It really sucked. I would finish each repeat and then just lay on the ground coughing my guts out. Awful day. After, i did a short cool down with Brielle. We had a good time.

We ran down to Shady lane park and did 3 mile repeats this time. We only go a minute break in between each one. I did the first 2 at 5:10 and 5:20. After the 5:20 i pretty much died. I decided to just do 2 800's with a bigger break in order to make it through the workout. Today was by far the worst since i've been sick.

As you can guess i wasn't feeling at all well again, but im doing better. I just ran the mile today. Finished in 4th with a 4:32 so i wasn't too disappointed. As soon as I was done i jogged to the infield, grabbed my spikes and was about to go back to the team when the devil himself started practicing jujitsu on my lungs. I sat there and coughed for a long time before i was even able to move. I was coughing so hard i thought i'd throw up.

6 miles today after hosting the jr high races. Brielle and brayden, and i just went out on the canal road. I found a weird wooden box in the grass so Brielle filled it with flowers. What a freak

Region was today. Today was just the mile. I was kind of nervous cause this is my last chance to qualify for state. I wasn't  feeling quite as sick so it helped a little. The race went out really slow (72) so i took the lead and led until the last 200. I ended up taking 4th but made it to state. Later brayden and I cooled down with ethan, spence $ and some other guys from cache valley.

Today was the 2 mile and the 800. The mile yesterday made my cough a little worse again but whatever. I had a rough time in the 2 mile. I didn't PR, which i should've and i placed 5th so no state either. I thought the 2 mile was rough but the 800 was even worse. I ran my slowest time since the beginning of 9th grade. My lungs were completely done. I think i ran a 2:10... yikes

Got up early and drove down to BYU for the state meet. I was super nervous cause i was seeded last in the mile and i was still feeling sick. I decided to just go with it and try my best. I didn't end up losing and i ran an altitude PR of 4:28. It's not at all where i wanted to be by the end of the season but it was alright for being sick for a month and a half. I cant wait to destroy this time early next season. Especially my 2 mile PR. Ive only raced it twice and i know i can go much faster if im not sick.

7.5 miles split between two runs today. After lunch I drove up to the top of monte cristo with my dad and Dan and did 4 miles at almost 9,000 feet. (6:45) Later in the evening I dropped my cousin off at soccer tryouts at Weber state and ran 3.5 miles up waterfall canyon and back. I also had the pleasure of seeing Brayden's mother on the way up

I woke up early and met some of the team at the top of 500 and we ran 4.5 on the trails by Ben Lomond. I was going to go for more after work but I didn't. I don't really know why not. I should probably get better at just going out and getting my runs in. I was hoping for a 50 mile week but I don't know if that'll happen anymore. Irritating...

Team practice today. We met at make-out point and ran the trails to the base of Ben Lomond. I was pretty much alone for most of it. I ended up doing a 10k of total distance. I don't know the pace cause my watch broke but probably about 6:30, rough guess. 

I went for another 4 miles later tonight around town.

So this was weird. 

I got up and did an easy 4 miles then went to the CBC late tonight both Brayden. We got to the race and did a 2 mile warm up with all the guys there then had an awesome race under the lights. I don't know my time cause my watch said 17:23 and Brayden's said he did it in like 6:46 or something, but he never passed me so we have no idea what to believe. Either way, it was a fun race.

2 miles this morning. I usually never go for runs that short unless it's a tempo but I knew I was going to do a long run later so I just went short. 

I called Brayden up and we drove up Monte cristo to 7,000 feet and did a longer run on the dirt road out to hardware ranch. We ended up going about 8 miles (6:54 avg) It felt great and we went faster than we expected, especially cause it's at good altitude and I had a big mileage week for just getting back from a break.

We had practice as a team this morning. We met and did a stair workout in the stadium. It was kind of tough cause I haven't really done any hills this summer but my time for me number 2 on the all time list next to none other than the Talon Hull. After the stairs we went on a 30 minute trail run. It was good hill training.

Today I biked over to the old trappers loop road and did a 3 mile run up to the top and back. It was pretty steep and slow but I need the hills. Later tonight I went on a 5 miler around town. It felt good but I was sore. (6:07 average)

I slept in today so I had to do my first run in the heat. I just did 3 miles on the trails around the lake and through town with one of my younger brothers. Then later tonight I did 4 more through some crazy wind.

We had a team practice today on some trails behind Rainbow Gardens. Talon and I went about 5 but then we got lost and had to hike\climb our way up a mountain to get back. 

Later this afternoon I did another 4 easy miles before Ragnar tomorrow.

Today was the start of the Ragnar relay. I was runner 3. My first leg was 7 miles through cache valley. (5:57 average) 

Brayden and I stayed over at Ethan Field's house last night and barely got any sleep so it's going to be a wild weekend.

At about 1 a.m. tonight I had my second leg of the Ragnar. It was two miles downhill. It got kind of tough trying to see where my feet were landing and ahead of me at the same time but I ran it in 9:30 so I was happy. 

Then this morning at about 7 I had my last leg of 9 miles  I was tired and it didn't go as planned (6:59 pace) but we ended up placing 5th overall and taking first in the high school division

Today Brayden and I left for the BYU XC camp. We left early and didn't have time for a run. Once we got there, we did a really short warm up and cool down and then a 2 mile threshold run at a park. It felt good but Ragnar definitely wiped me out.

Day 2 of the BYU camp. We woke up early and did a fartlek workout at another park. The fartlek went 8,5,3,2,1 hard then easy for each. We did the hard sets at just under 5:00 pace. The full thing including warm ups and cool downs was 7.5. 

Later in the day we went for an easy 4 miles on the Provo river trail. (7:00 avg.)

Day 3 of the BYU camp. We woke up early again and went for a 3 mile run on the shoreline trail. Later we ran 4.5 more miles up to Stewart falls. Both were moderately easy. 

Tonight Brayden and I did 2.5 more around campus to get more miles.

Last day at BYU. We went back to the same park we were at on the first day and raced the same 2 mile course. We were all pretty tired and only went a little faster than we did on the threshold run but it still felt good.
