A couple of wins in small local races. 

I have always been an active person and need to do something physical everyday or I don't feel right. 

Short-Term Running Goals:

Mile: 4:40

5k: 16 min (track or honest course)

10k: 33 min

1/2 Marathon: 1:13

Steadily increase my mileage to 60-70 miles a week.

 

Long-Term Running Goals:

Eventually run a marathon.

Run for health and sanity.

Ran in the dark, cold night.

Ran easy for the first 5 miles of my 10k loop then picked it up.

Averaged 5:45 for the last 1.2, was pleased with this as the goal was to run faster while maintaining decent form and running relaxed at faster speeds.  Wasn't a huge effort but encouraging.

Hey Adam I'm not sure what you want to do in terms of racing this winter/spring, but the SLC track club winter series kicks off this weekend. 3 races, they are cheap, and they are on the most honest (ie. completely flat) courses in the area.

They sound like some fun races and I could probably run them without doing much of anything to my training. Thanks for letting me know, I will mull it over and possibly jump in one or two of them.

My only scheduled race so far is the Running of the Leopards 5k.

January is a base building month for me, just trying to average 5-6 miles a day which is double what I have done in past years. February, I'm going to do 2-3 hard workouts a week, with at least one weekly track workout.

My goal this year is to get under 16 minutes for the 5K and increase my mileage to 50 a week by the end of the year while staying injury free.

You definitely have a solid plan and are taking the right approach. Build the base, start adding in the workouts, and be ready to race come spring/summer. I think the sub 16 is totally w/in your grasp this year.

Hi.

Nice 1.2 miles threshold intensity at the end there. I am smiling to myself right now because when I go to your site and read your remarks around intensity and pace, I find myself adding 2:20 to your paces to assess...and yep...my threshold and Easy pace is in fact 2:20 slower than your threshold and Easy pace.

This just amazes me! And most amazing of all is that Burt says you are "getting" serious.

I am looking forward to reading about those quality and track workouts.

Well I don't know about "considerably." I just figured out why Burt referenced "Getting Serious." That is your blog page title. I hear you regarding "running against ourselves." As I am new to running, believe it or not, my best years are AHEAD of me. I don't have to really deal with the great times I ran when I was younger.
