2 miles in 14 minutes followed by 2 more in 12 minutes.
I think 6 minute pace is right in the middle of my marathon and threshold pace so I split the miles.
Cold but felt good especially when running a little quicker.

I run into the same problem - the pace I could run for a half-marathon right now is probably marathon pace when I'm actually ready to race - so it becomes a "goal pace" vs "date pace" dilemma. I would do the same thing as you though, just split it down the middle.
