Today I met up with Bill, Tomy, Dakota, Chris, and Gavin at the U track. We did 1 mile warm up, 1 mile speed changes, and some drills and set up hurdles to act as barriers. We did an 800 and a 600 in lane one without the hurdles, then we did 2 800s with the hurdles. I was to do my first lap of my first one in lane 2 with the hurdles and clear the barrier with the water pit (we just left the pit closed) and my 2nd lap was just the water pit barrier. The next 800 we switched so that I had a normal lap with the water barrier, then the lap with the hurdles. We then set up a barrier at a sand pit and drew a line to clear with some hurdles after. After doing this drill several times, we did 10 strides (some of them with our eyes closed) and then 1 mile cool down. I'm going to be a little sore tonight...or alot...

Today we did 1 mile warm up and 1 mile speed changes. I then did an 800, and hit a 2:56. I was supposed to hit a 2:40 then I could be done. The first one was terrible and hurt a lot in the heat. The second one, Sarah did the first lap with me and Tomy paced me the 2nd. I barely got a 2:41, which REALLY hurt. Bill told me to do one more and I would be done. I was on pace my 1st lap, then died and got a 2:56. Then Bill made me angrier by telling me to do one more. I was 2 seconds off pace on my first lap, and slower the 2nd, which made me really mad. I was ready to be done, then I was told to do 4 35 second 200s. By now I was super ticked off. I hit all the 200 times, but when I was done I did half mile cool down and went home. Now I need to drink lots of water because I was dehydrated the whole workout and the water I drank at workout made my mouth all sticky. Not helpful.

Today we ran down to Liberty for tempo. I was to do 2 miles at a 7 min pace. I finished a little over 14 minutes, but I felt like I was pushing. I didn't have a watch, so I feel like I'm amazing. I finished the lap to the drinking fountain and ran back to the school. I'm really sore now. Now it's my bedtime (after I finish this apple turnover) because I have to be on the bus for Great Southwest at 4:45 AM.

Today after the long bus ride down to New Mexico with new teammates that I don't even know, we went on a run. All the boys, Carrie, Ashleigh and I went to the track, did some stride stuff, and ran back. I had my garmin so I just put the exact mileage. Now we're off to dinner.

The Steeplechase was scheduled to start at 7:45, so Carrie and I went to the water barrier at about 7:00 to get some practice jumps. During the jumps, I almost ran into the barrier and with my sudden stop, my green shoe totally ripped. Bill wrapped athletic tape around it, and the blue one so that it wouldn't rip more. Cheapo shoes that cost a fortune. When Carrie and I went to get our numbers, I was seeded 1 and she was 5. The race people then told us that they moved it to 7:30, giving us no time to warm up whatsoever. We did a couple of strides to get our heart rates up before starting. For the first lap, they didn't have the first and second barriers set up, but when we got to the 200 mark we had the first one. My first jump into the water pit was alright, and I got out of it fast and went over the next barrier. I wasn't really thinking about the barrier right after the finish line, and saw it just in time to step on it and jump off. I worked my way up by keeping my eyes on the next girl, picking and passing. There were only 8 girls in the race and top 6 get medals, so my goal was to have at least 2 behind me. When I was on my 4th lap coming up on the barrier before the water pit barrier, I was watching the girl in front of me trying to pass her. I noticed she was dying on the hurdles of the barrier and then I saw that I was really close to it. I simply stepped over it as fast as I could and sprinted to the water pit. As I passed the girl the tape on my green shoe went flying off, and when I went into the water pit she passed me. When I got out of the water pit I sprinted to the girl and cleared the next barrier before her and looked at the 2 and 3 girls battling for 2nd because Carrie had a big lead on them. Going into my last lap I made every jump on the barrier and my water jump was alright. Coming out of the water pit on that last lap I saw that I could potentially catch the two girls in front of me, so I really worked it to that last barrier and to the finish. I didn't catch them, but it was my first time doing Steeplechase ever, and I'm happy with my time, happy with my place, and happy with my race. We watched the boys run and watched our Utah boys get 1, 2 and 6, then watched our boys 4x800 take 2nd and girls 1st. Then Bill took Carrie and I on a 3 mile cool down just around the big field and the stadium. Then we all went to Applebees for dinner. Time to focus on the 3200 that I didn't prepare for... Good thing Nat's flying down tomorrow and bringing me my old spikes, since these crappy overpriced spikes that I loved so much are really no good anymore.

Today I went on a morning 2 mile shakeout run with Carrie. We ran from our hotel to the track and back. Later that evening after we watched Disney's Beauty and the Beast on TV, we went to the meet. I did 1 mile of warmup with Carrie, Miranda, Summer, and Natalie. As we got our numbers and spiked up we met up with Emily and lined up. I got an okay start, not to fast, but I wish I had went out harder with my fellow Utah girls, who took spots 1-5. I focused on picking and passing people. There was a New Mexico girl who said the F bomb every time I passed her, so I distanced myself from her because it was really annoying. I spent the rest of the race chasing after a Nevada girl, and I failed to catch her. I feel like I did horrible, but the happiness from the Steeplechase yesterday was still in me so I didn't let it bug me. Oh, I also raced in my old purple spikes that Natalie flew down with her this morning. Thanks Nat! I did a mile cool down barefoot around the field with my fellow teammates before going on our nighttime adventures, like laying in the middle of the road after midnight.
