Weather - 24 degrees, a stiff wind. Decided to run in the evening again, just to change things from the usual routine. Ran 5 easy miles, with the final mile being run at threshold pace. I tried to remain loose and give my mind the impression that I was running easy, even though my leg turnover was faster than easy pace. It seemed to work, I felt in control, and realized that marathoners who run consistent 5 minute miles must feel as if the pace is easy, not hard, otherwise I don't think they could handle that kind of stress for 2 hours. I had no ill effects following yesterdays 12 miler, no leg soreness or foot problems. Things are starting to shape up. |
