I need to take an easy day, and since I usually can't stop myself from pushing hard on any given session, the best way to get rest is for me to take a zero. Most runners I have read don't like to skip days, but it is the only way I can recover from my hard runs. I especially like taking 2 consecutive days off, because on the third day my energy is bursting and I can't wait to hit the trails. If I take 3 consecutive days I find my fitness drags a bit. I plan on doing an easy 5 miles tomorrow....

Welcome Will. I'm originally from IL myself (Southside Chicago). What Urbana area races have you done? I've only done the Uni High 5K. However, there is Steamboat not too far from there as well as a great Fourth of July 5K in Peoria...

Hi Adam, thanks for the welcome. I ran a number of races this year, the 2nd Wind Running Club had a race circuit, and I participated in 10 of those races - Mountain Goat 15k, The Lake Run 12k in Hudson, Buffalo Trace 5 mile, Danville Memorial 5k, etc. I had a good year, but cut the race season short in August after running my first marathon. I am back to training and am hoping to run my next race in December, Da Deer Run 5 mile X-country near Bloomington. I am looking forward to getting some ideas about training from your blog!
