It was a tough day out there for a lot of folks at the 26th running of the Arkansas Traveller 100. Beautiful sunrise and sunset with lots of humidity and temps reaching into the 80s during the afternoon.
I ran well through the Powerline Aid Station (Inbound), Mile 68, only 12 minutes off my CR pace from last year. But having come in a little undertrained with my mileage way down, I couldn't push the pace during the final 20 Miles as I have in the previous two years. With my quads thrashed, I was proud of my effort over the last 6 Miles, running Miles 99 and 100 with my Dad to the finish for my third consecutive win.
I want to thank my Dad and Diana for crewing me during the final third of the race. It was great to see their faces at Powerline, Lake Winona (Mile 83.4) and the Finish. I also want to praise the volunteers and enthusiastic aid station cheering crowds. They make it possible to smile even in the darkest moments. Finally, congrats to Co-Race Director Chrissy Ferguson for her 19th Traveller finish. She and husband, Stan, will be handing over director duties starting next year. They are an Arkansas treasure and will be missed.
