Personal:

Pride necessarily sprouts and grows; a pride that can only come from relentless kneading of unwilling flesh, painful months of grinding and burning away all that is heavy, all that is strength-sapping and useless to the body as a projectile. --John L. Parker, Jr., runner/author

30 Miles in 4:13 (8:26/mile) in Ouachita National Forest on a hot afternoon around 95 degrees. From Lake Sylvia Ouachita Trail parking area, ran 1.5 Miles up FSR 152, then west on FSR 132 (Lake Winona Scenic Dr.) for 13.5 Miles up to Lake Winona Vista Point, then Forked Mountain Vista Point, turning around for the return trip about a half mile past Forked Mountain Vista Point.

5 Gatorades, 1 Water, 3 S-Caps, and 3 Gels, which were pretty hard to get down in the heat; needed more water and less Gatorade.

32 Total Miles including walk to and from church with Max and Sophia this morning.

Wesley, Forked Mountain Vista Point? After you pass Vista Point, and I always run the short detour to look over the vista, about 1/3 mile down the road is another Vista up a jeep road on your left for about 1/4 mile. It's also a great view with a secluded, very primitive, camp site. 8:26/mile in our heat would compete with a lot of running professional. You're definitely ready for Leadville later this month.

Deb Baker and I are planning to run 30 on Saturday morning -- targeting a 5:30 time -- a walk in the park for you. Dave

Dave- the Vistas are great, and Forked Mountain is particularly spectacular in the late afternoon light.

I'll be in Gatlinburg with my family, Luke's family, and our parents from the 7th-14th, but I'd love to do a 15-Mile or so trail run on the 15th or 16th...the more the merrier because pace won't matter.

Wesley, You're running Leadville a week later, so you decide on the distance. I'm good for any distance up to 40 miles. The longer the distance, the earlier we need to start. Dave
