to stop being a chicken, and run a race

La Crosse WI Marathon. May 2, 2026 - 3:41:35

Greenbrier River Trail Marathon WV. October 4, 2026

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 19, and 21. And as of January 18, 2025, one grandson.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

6.8 miles. West Venetian waterway park. Only 1 small coughing fit at 5.9 miles. It was so nice to just steady cruise for a run of that length.

8 miles. Hood Route to legacy trail, over the SWOM bridge and back. 1 coughing fit at the turn around. Other than that, nice running. I missed the last 2 days running because of family stuff.

16.25 miles. Hood route to Legacy Trail to Circus Bridge and back. Hot. "Feels like" 102. Slow. Longest run since 8/1. It's like cramming for a test. 23 days to race day.

As I went over the US41 bridge, there were about a dozen people with signs taped to the chain link fence, with messages about Sept. 11. Many, many signs. I started thinking there's no way I could read all of these, if I were driving underneath this bridge. But it was still cool that folks would show that kind of tribute. They were certainly doing more than I was. Anyway, I was coming up on the last sign to the south. It said "God Bless Dolly." They may have lost the plot with that last one.

6 mile loop while visiting friends in Fort Lauderdale. Bayview Drive, Oakland Park Boulevard, A1A, Sunrise Boulevard, back to Bayview Drive. It was hot and humid. Then my buddy made some fantastic smoked ribs. He's a really good cook.
