Short-Term Running Goals:

2024 GOALS:

to not get fat

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 18, and 19.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

7.5 miles. Hood Route to Legacy Trail and back. 6 am start. 1:02:43. 8:22 pace. 81 deg. 79% hum.  73 d.p. I wanted to go longer. but I sat on the couch for an hour before starting. I think this is SlowJoe's heat-induced apathy at work here. I just didn't feel like running the 12.9 scheduled miles. The clock is ticking, and I have to get going for the next race.

4.6 miles. Ringling Bridge. 36:24. 7:55 pace. 5:45 pm start. 88 deg. 65% hum. 74 d.p. "Feels Like" 97. And that's not the worst part! It was super low tide. That smell of seaweed / dead fish / pelican waste cooking in the sun is pretty rough. SBVD was taking it easy today. Even he wasn't going to push it in this mess. Proud to beat the 8 minute man today.

20.75 miles. Legacy Trail to Caspersen Beach and back. 5:45 am Start. 3:02:42. 8:48 pace. 7:30 last mile. 81 deg. 79% hum. 73 d.p. Not as fast as I wanted, but I FINISHED! After several weeks of falling apart on my long runs, it was good to finish, and I ran the whole thing. Hopefully, this means I have finally acclimated to the summer.

Then we took the boys to the beach. Clear and flat. No waves of any kind. Not so great for skimming or boogieboarding, but great therapy for my legs, I think. I even rode the skimboard one time. No tricks, just riding. It's weird. You run 20 miles and think "I ain't that old." Then you run 10 feet after a skimboard on a beach and think "Geez, I'm old." I'm sure it looked great.
