* = These 5 races were run at 67.9 seconds per pound. If I want a PR, I need to weigh less than 170 pounds. Short-Term Running Goals: 2024 GOALS:
to not get fat Long-Term Running Goals: Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states. Personal: I'm married, with two sons, 18, and 19.
I started running because someone dared me to.
I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

| 5.5 miles. Hood Route. Daylight savings- 6/7 am start. Finally loosened up by mile 3. Yesterday beat me up, but I may still race next weekend.
https://goteambravery.wordpress.com/ They are going to push a truck for 26.2 miles. I was originally one of the five guys pushing, but then they changed the date, and I had a conflict at church, so I had to drop out. Just as well, it works out that I start the new jerb the following day. That might have been an ugly first day! They are shooting for less than 9 hours. I think they can do it in less than 6.
I'm trying to get some press coverage of the event on ESPN "the Ocho" and in OSQ magazine.

| local video made by a friend of a friend...pretty cool.
https://vimeo.com/120089144
I overslept my run this morning, and plan on hitting the bridge later.
4.6 miles. Ringling Bridge. 85 deg. Getting kind of crowded out here. Bunches of folks running the bridge before the Sarasota Half this weekend. I even saw SBVD and his pack of toadies. As I passed them, I said hi. No point in being a jerk now. The new office will be no where near the bridge that I have really enjoyed running over the last couple of years, so I am trying to get as many runs in here as possible. I figure I have about 3 more.
I am definitely NOT in racing shape for Saturday, but I'm going to give it my best shot, and see what happens. So, pretty typical race day set-up for me.

| My favorite local race. The whole family made it out. 34:00. 6:50 pace. Super hot and humid, no wind. I was late to get the memo about needing a shoe chip. No one mentioned this when I got my bib super-early. I ran around like a nut to find the chip people. As soon as I had it on my shoe, the race started. Beard guy that I have seen at the track a couple of times won it. Foreign guy that I've seen/talked to at the YMCA won masters, high school kid took third, And Mike, my new worthy adversary, took 4th. My splits, as best as I can remember, were 6:15, 7:00, 7:00, 7:10, and 6:35. Also, this is assuming they had the mile markers correct on the course. I'm glad I threw something extra at the last mile, because I think I barely held off getting chicked. I wore my work T-shirt to pick up the medal but I don't think anybody got the joke. Green eggs. Finding cool stuff on the beach with the kids, and walking the fishing pier after the race. Great morning. So, in the 4 years I've been running this race, I've finished 16th, 4th, 4th, and now, 5th. meh.
What does all of this mean? I don't know. I'm just having fun running. I'll start worrying about PR's in the fall, because the summer heat is upon me. I guess I'll start building up the miles, adapt to the new work schedule, and try to survive the summer.
