Short-Term Running Goals:

2024 GOALS:

to not get fat

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 18, and 19.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

5.2 Miles. Ringling Bridge. 38:45. 7:27 pace. 5:30 pm start. 76 deg. 56% hum. 59 D.P. The right shoulder thing has mostly gone away. I blame the car for that one. Crazy? For 13 years, I drove a car that had a certain height of center arm rest. Now that height is different. That's my theory. The left groin thing - I looked into this on the interwebs. It could be a hip flexor injury. I don't know. I had to go slow for the first half mile, then everything was fine. It hurts to walk and sit, but not to run. Go figure. I just have to chill out for a while, and let IJR rack up the miles on me, I guess.

I'll be running this Friday with Tommy in his first 5k.

Running in Venice? With smoke effects and glow sticks? Next to the beach? With a movie afterwards? Come On! WHAT MORE COULD AN EIGHT YEAR OLD WANT?! This is gonna be great!

....I might be a little too excited about this.

Glad you're running again. Height of car armrest is definitely one of those first world problems, but from where I sit, I think you nailed it!

Wow, and you didn't even mention the free glow-in-the-dark t-shirt!

I didn't realize you were having a problem. Hopefully it goes away soon. If its a groin problem, get a tennis ball and basically sit on it where it hurts the most. do this 2-3 times a day for several minutes. I think you will find it will fix the problem.

Oh...BTW, after next week I'll be taking it easy for a while! :-)

From Tom K on Wed, Nov 06, 2013 at 10:51:09 from 174.58.4.250

You have 22 miles already on a taper-ish week, so obviously, you and I have different definitions of "taking it easy." That said, I am wondering if averaging 210 miles per month for the last 4 months was beyond my limits, or if I ramped up too fast from averaging 150/month, or if 1.5 years of 43 hours of sleep/week has finally caught up with me, or if this whole "no-racing-therefore-no-recovery-weeks" attitude is flawed. I think I needed some relief. The leg feels good while sitting today, so do I run tonight, or give it another day? I've been lucky, over my 3 year running career to have very few strains, so this is kind of new to me.

Hey look!, My Boston Confirmation Card came in the mail today - better go run!
