Kim and I were pacers at the AF 1/2 marathon today. I did 2 hours and Kim did 2:10. Had a lot of fun running the relaxed pace and hopefully helping a few runners achieve their sub 2 hour goal. Fun to hear a lot of runners say "dang!" whenever I would pass them but even funner to have a few come up afterward and thank me for helping them out.

My garmin was giving me fits down the canyon and even turned off a couple of times so I was a little worried I was off pace but actually ended up coming in around 1:59:40 just where I wanted to be.

Thanks to Walter B for giving us the chance to do the pacing gig every so often and also big congrats to Walt for defending his title and again winning the race.

I should keep up better with my friends. I ran over to AF Saturday, but I didn't know you and Kim were running (pacing). Maybe that's good. I was about halfway home by the time you both finished. If I would have waited around, I might not have made it home. Leaving as early as I did it was still near 80 degrees when I finished my long run.

It sounds like you and Kim are both running well, and enjoying it together. Maybe it's not manly to admit this, but I enjoy a good love story. I was going to say "with a happy ending", but it isn't going to end. (See Pres. Uchtdorf's message "Always in the Middle" in July's Ensign - http://www.lds.org/ensign/2012/07/always-in-the-middle?lang=eng)

Paul - always good to hear from you. Yeah I don't spend much time on FRB either besides still logging the miles. Hey the race pacing is a blast you should try it sometime. This pace group is managed by Walter Brown (long time FRBer) and is open to anyone who would like to pace. Walter has a group on facebook and he just asks for pacing volunteers for whatever races are coming up that he is in charge of and then he picks among the volunteers for the various paces (usually in the 1:30-2:30 range for 1/2 marathons and double that for marathons).

If you think you'd be interested in pacing sometime I can add you to the FB group then you can be up to date on what's going on within the group and upcoming races to pace.

Great pacing Tom! How about adding me to walters FB pacing group.

You bet Terry I actually thought you were already in the group since I've seen you're name mentioned before as a candidate for some of the more speedy paces.

Terry I went to add you but it said you were already a member of the group. So you should already be seeing all the posts made to the American Flyers Race Pacers group on facebook.
