I know that impulse shopping can sometimes be bad. Hoping that impulse marathoning doesn't work the same way. Yesterday Kim and I decided on a whim that we needed to run the SLC Marathon today and run in support of the Boston Marathon and city of Boston in general. We also looked forward actually being able to cross a finish line since we didn't get that chance at Boston.

We first planned on running it very nice & easy like we did Boston or even slower, but after we learned that RAD and some other BM finishers were going to run 4:09:43 (the time when when the first bomb exploded) and pause just before the finish for a moment of silence and to pay tribute to the victims, we knew we at least had to give it a shot and run with that group for as long as the legs held out.

Although both of us are capable of running a 4:09-4:10 marathon, Kim hadn't really trained for this and we knew it may not be so smart to push it in this race after just having run BM (or at least 25.5 miles worth of it) just a few days ago. So plan was to just see how it went but to back off at the first signs of trouble.

We lasted around 20 miles then Kim's back started giving her some serious trouble along with a bout of dizziness we decided it was best to take it easy the last 10K. Kim was willing to let me go ahead with the group but I really wanted to cross the finish line with her since we didn't get that chance at Boston.

We were still able to get in around 4:17-4:18 and Kim even placed 4th in AD so I was very proud of her. Had a good hug at the finish, along with some tears after coming to the end of the race and the end a very emotional week. All in all it was a great experience and I'm glad we did it, although I wouldn't recommend for anyone to normally run marathons on Monday and Saturday of the same week.

It rained most of the time before, during, and after the race so we got pretty soggy and cold after the finish.  Good to get back home for a hot shower and looking forward to 26.2 hours of sleep after a very crazy week.

Great job! I turned on channel 5 in the morning and they showed about 30 minutes of the marathon. It looked cold and wet but fun. Many runners wearing Boston shirts and a couple carring flags. Fun to see and an inspiration watching good people achieve a tough goal.

Great job with back-to-back marathons. I can't imagine what Boston was like, and to have been at the heart of such a great tragedy. You showed that life continues on in wake of a rough patch in humanity.
