Got to volunteer today for the Atlanta Marathon and Half-marathon. They got about 10,000 for the half and 1,000 for the full this year. I've never volunteered for a race before, but figured since I wasn't running this event this year I should still do something for the holiday morning. I had a good time and got a nice windbreaker for my efforts. The one big thing I took away from watching all levels of runners pass me is that while the effort appears to be similar for everyone, the economy of motion is so much better with the faster people. The slower people get, the shorter and choppier their strides. I guess it is an obvious point, but something I always notice when I get to watch a race. So my focus is to continue to work on my form and running with my whole body.
