The first day of spring break is a good day to start training, right? Especially because of the coronavirus, I don't even have school to go back to haha. Ran 3.5 on park loop, then finished with some barefoot laps on the turf. Felt wheezy, but that's how any training block starts. Can't wait to get at it.

Sidenote: if any of you are former collegiate runners turned party lifestyle turned back to running, I'd appreciate some advice haha, I'd really love to get back to my original fitness, but after about a year and a half of slacking off, I can understand if that's unattainable.

i don’t think i’ve ever been more qualified to speak on an issue than this one. just take a month or two not sweating it too much and just running when you want and you’ll slowly want to do it more and more and after those couple of months you’ll be in a good enough place to get back to where you were before, made even farther. don’t rush it, you’ll know when you’re ready to hit it hard again. partying is fun, it’s still gonna be fun even if you’re training like you never have before. but at a point you (mostly) just want to get the pleasure from training your ass off more than anything else.

good to see you back on the blog. hope you stick with it. it’s popping off way less than it did when we were in high school but it’s a good and supportive community that i’m sure want to see you doing well.

Welcome back to the blog. I used to enjoy following your blog when you were running in college. I always wondered what happened to you. I look forward to reading your blog in the future.

Eugene- thanks dawg. Glad to see theres some hope yet.

Eva- thank you, glad to know someones watching the process haha.

From Zack on Tue, Mar 17, 2020 at 21:16:52 from 66.219.235.87

haha if it's fitness that you are trying to get back it's like post-mission. Just build up nice and slow. slowly build up to 45 miles per week before any speed workouts. It took me about 2 months. if its motivation... not sure.

Was gonna do a bike sesh at vasa this morning but they closed all of their locations due to the virus; also my mom lost her job due to the virus. Wild times. We'll all pull through though.

Ran 3.5 total, park loop again with 4xbarefoot strides on the turf. Felt really good in the cedar city wind. Less wheezy.

The weather is nice today, but I still probably wont run. Whoever reads my blog gets a front row seat to my OCD; gotta start tomorrow so the week looks good on paper. Lol

Update: I ran today. 35min easy on park loop. Gonna do minutes now because I don't have a GPS watch, and I won't be living in Cedar, where I know the mileage of every route, forever, so may as well make the switch. Felt good, hamstrings are tight, but that's to be expected.

UPDATE: since I have no GPS watch and I run by time but that's hard to blog on here, I'm going to blog my minutes as if they are somewhat relative decimals of miles. For example, if I run 40 minutes, I'll put 4 miles in the total distance box. That way i don't put 40 miles in the distance box and ruin the mileage board, and now i also won't put nothing in the mileage box, so it won't show up as zero. I understand that I'm definitely running faster than 10min pace for these runs, so it may not be that accurate, but it keeps my OCD at bay.

They closed the track due to coronavirus, so that sucks. loved training at eccles, wish I could a little more before I leave cedar, but i understand they're just trying to keep people safe, and there have been quite a few people using the track when i've been there. recorded the mileage with strava's gps thing on my phone, and it was kinda glitchy. i need a watch. finished the mileage with 2xBarefoot hill strides in the grass.

My new watch came today, the Garmin Forerunner 245 Music. It's awesome, I was able to download my playlists from spotify to my watch, so I didn't need to take my phone for music, the watch connected to my headphones. It aso tracks so many things, Vo2 max, tons of different things with heart rate, arterial oxygen saturation, and a ton of other stuff, an exercise science major's dream.

anyway, ran 3.5 on park loop with grass loops. threw in 2x30 second pickups just to test the quickness of the pace drop with the watch's gps. super accurate! felt good on the run.

morning: 10min bike to shakeout before i time trial

afternoon: mile time trial! wanted to see where my fitness was at following my abandoning of my sport lol. got to cedar high's track with brady around 3:00pm. it was super windy, as it always is in cedar. warmed up, did strides, and started. got out in about 1:10, a bit too fast for where i'm at but it's hard not to be antsy when you know you're trying to go all out. 800 in 2:30, slowed down quite a bit haha. 1200 in 3:45, then finished for 4:55. felt spent! it's crazy that i used to be able to hold that pace for races much longer than a mile, now it's all out for a mile haha. either way, i'm so glad to be training agian. now i have a benchmark time to base my future training off of. back at it!

followed the time trial with 4x200m finishes, 33 33 33 32. felt smooth despite going all out 5 minutes earlier.
