8 miles with my SSF

Went to Lehi High School to do some speedwork on the track. I know this sounds crazy, but I have NEVER ran on a track before. My speed as of late has really been quite stinky, and hence I have avoided working on it since I hate being disappointed with the splits. What a copout.

~ 2.25 miles warmup

dynamic stretching

5 X 800 meteres with 400 meters jog in between (albeit I walked 200 meters after the 3rd and 4th 800 ... seriously ... what a baby.)

Splits for the 800 meters were: 3:29, 3:29, 3:28, ? (forgot to hit the lap button), 3:25

The best part of the run by far were our cool down miles (~ 2.25) which we did barefoot on the astro turf on the football field. I LOVED THAT!!! It felt so good to run barefoot on that surface. Every now and then I would run a sprint or jump in and out of a tire that was on the field. Too bad there is not an astro turf marathon. Man that was heavenly.

One last thing:

MY SSF ROCKS!!!!

(SERIOUSLY ... THERE IS NO ONE ELSE LIKE HER! HOW DID I GET SO LUCKY?)

Today's run was to judge where I am at and try to make a plan for UVM. From the get go my legs felt extremely tired. Still waiting for them to spring back to life.

Ran on the JRP to 2100 South and then got lost a few times trying to find my hubby's work. It worked out perfectly though, since I ended up with exactly 15 miles upon arrival.

I had one scary moment though ... I was running on part of the trail when out of nowhere this older looking guy, not well kept, came down a side hill on his bike. He jumped off of the bike and started chasing me. My fears were eliminated fairly quickly as I looked back after what seemed like a long time (but was probably only 10 seconds or so) and he had already stopped. I think he was not all there. But it sure scared me.

After running the marathon pace miles (which I am now counting as anything under 8:12) I took it really easy (except for the short encounter previously mentioned) and kind of lolligagged along, stopping at a Maverick to get some more fluids, stopping at the E Center to take some pictures of high school grads with their families, asking for directions, and so forth. So not sure how helpful this run was.

I have decided that I will run UVM like I did Ogden. A hard training run, but not full on out race.

4 miles -- that felt like who knows how many.

Spent the last few days at Wolfcreek with the family. So strange how driving up the canyon in Ogden brings back all the butterflies and anticipation of running a marathon. Anyway ... decided to run up the canyon from our timeshare then turn around and run down. Was going to run up 3 miles but it started getting dark and I was nervous about being up there alone (nice excuse ... the uphill and very small headwind was kicking my trash) so turned around at the 2 mile point.

My pace was super slow going up ... I was frustrated about that but once I downloaded the info on my laptop I can see why ... I gained a little over 700 feet in those two miles. Unfortunately, coming down was worse. The wind was now at my back pushing me and it was far too steep - I never felt like I had control or could run relaxed. Every stride sent a pain up my silly leg -- making me so stinkin' mad. I really stink at running downhill.

Anyway ... made it back in one piece. :)

12.3 miles with a few strides (still no zip in my run ... dang).

Was worried about my leg, since it hurt so stinkin' bad running down the canyon on Thursday, but it seemed to do fine. A little awkward at some times, but for the most part A-okay. :)
