Short-Term Running Goals: Recovering from micro-fracture surgery on my right knee. I tore the cartilage off of my knee while doing a speed-training run one month before Boston. Doc gave me a cortisone shot so that I was able to finish Boston. After the surgery, I was told to never run again. :( Long-Term Running Goals: QUALIFIED FOR BOSTON! | | Ran with my nephew in a blizzard. First 4 miles started out fine and then the storm hit and he was in shorts. We froze our butts off!
|
| | Beautiful day. Ran in a tank and shorts. After 8 miles I ran the Bells Canyon trail up to the lake and back down to my house at 10 miles. I then ran to my moms making it 18.5 in 3 hrs. | |
|
| | Had a busy day. Only had time for 7. Ran it fast for me. 55 min. | |
|
| | Skied all day up at Canyons. The snow was like glue! I have never skied on such crappy snow. My legs were dead! | |
|
| | Ran 10 in 1:25. Not great but I am trying to get my speed up! | |
|
| | Ran from my house up to Bells Canyon reservoir and back. | |
| |
| | Ran in the snow with my 21 year old nephew. We laughed the whole 9 miles, my stomach muscles got a better workout than my legs. | |
| |
| | 6 in 50. Felt good to have the sun on my face! | |
| |
| | Ran around Little Cottonwood. Won't run again until Saturday! | |

Salt Lake City Marathon 2011 (26.2 Miles) 03:41:03, Place overall: 178, Place in age division: 6
YEEEHHIOOOOOOOO! I QUALIFIED! My half time was 1:46:51 and I kept trying to push myself. The last three miles it felt like I was running on broken legs! I did it! I did it! I can't believe it! I came in at 3:41:03. 6th for my age and gender.
Jun told me he likes the Margarita Shot Blocks and just keep then shoved back in your cheek. I started one on 21st east. I had a BIG WAD in my mouth. As I entered the park, they were taking a bunch of pictures of me and my fat cheeks! ha! Sugarhouse Park, Scott Stephenson (Kelli's hub) ran past me. He was a year younger than me in school. We chatted for a second and then I slowly saw him vanish from my sight. :( I was feeling pretty good. Kept trying to not get up to 9 minute miles, even on the hills. If I was getting close to 9, I would push myself to run faster. Saw Jun at mile 11. He had a great sign, bottle of Citomax and a gel for me. My mother-in-law with sis and brother-in-law were at mile 16 with my two littlest kids. It was so fun to give them a smooch and get a little boost to keep going. One of my sisters kept popping up every few miles to cheer me on. She is so wonderful. I have a daughter that dances at Ballet West and it is pretty intense. You can't miss a day. My hub took her to dance at 7:30 and she was finished by 10:30. They both ran down after getting a waffle at Bruge's and met me at the finish line. I was so excited. I actually felt better at the end of this marathon than the other two I have run.

| | After the marathon my left foot and right knee were killing me. It took me four days before I could even walk normal. It was Spring Break for my kids the week after the marathon and my hub kept telling me to take the week off.....I think so that he could have a break from my running. It was driving me crazy to not get out for a run, but I could tell my body did need a break. I ran in Panguitch, Utah on Friday afternoon and I thought I would run a 5 on Friday and 10 the next morning. I couldn't run the full five. I had to stop at 4.3 because my knee and foot were killing me again! Is this normal after a marathon? I don't remember it taking so long to recover. I am a little afraid to run this morning. What do I do? Do I take more time off just to make sure that I am not going to have a longer recovery? I was worried that I had another stress fracture in my foot, but it is feeling better after a week and only hurts if I run more than a mile. :( I need some advice!
| |
| |
| | Mowed and edged my yard this morning and everything was feeling fine.....so, I couldn't resist and decided to get out for a run since my 13 yr old stayed home sick from school -- which means, I had a babysitter. I ran my usual around Little Cottonwood. It was so beautiful and the mountain goats were out on the mountains jumping around. Mile 3 my knee started hurting so I didn't go up the Bells Canyon trail to the lake and back. I thought I better not do more than 5 today. Knee feels strange. I have never had knee problems before. I am hoping it is just still a bit inflamed and will get back to normal soon. | |
| |
| | Ran 5 around Little Cottonwood and then hiked up to Bells Canyon Reservoir and back at a pathetically slow pace! I was going to run 8 and then up to the Reservoir but only ran 5 because my knee was hurting and I wasn't feeling it today. Crap run day...no energy! Wondered why I even run today! Hopefully I will start feeling better soon. ZERO DRIVE...What is wrong with me? I didn't even enjoy going up to the lake today and that is usually the best part of my day! | |
| |
| | Heading to Vegas to meet up with my hub for the weekend. It is probably my least favorite place on earth! He is at a conference and has the restaurants all planned and ready to go since we don't drink, gamble, or do anything Vegas-like! I am going to lay at the pool and eat myself sick in hopes that binging all weekend will give me some motivation to get back at running. Everything is hurting on me lately. Is it just because I am getting old? I think I am going to give myself a week or two break to heal up, but I am so afraid of getting out of shape and starting back with breathing hard at mile one again! :( When I get back, I am going to get an elliptical so that I can complain about it like everyone else on here! ha!!
| |
| |
| | Seriously...I put on 4 pounds in Vegas! I now have some motivation to get back at running! ha! Ran 5 around the neighborhood that I grew up in. My mom babysat for me. 5 in 41 and felt pretty good except my knee started throbbing at mile 3! I will be buying an elliptical this week, so any input would be great. So far the advice I have is Costco and it has to have the bigger stride. So, off to Costco I will go tomorrow! | |
| |
| | Ran around Little Cottonwood with stabbing knee pain in my right knee! SWEAR WORDS!!! | |
| |
| | Does every one who stayed in all winter have to be out jogging today??? I am stuck icing my knee on the most beautiful and warmest day so far this spring!!! I ran through snow storms, rain, freezing cold temps all winter and now they are enjoying my nice weather! BOO!!! haha! | |
| |
| |
I'M MELTING! One week with nothing but laying around and trying to stay off my feet!. I got on the scale yesterday (first time since Vegas at 112.0) and I was 107! WHAT? Are all of my muscles disintigrating?! Deeeeppppprrrrrreeeeesssssseeeeedddddd! It is cold and rainy outside today, so at least I won't be seeing too many runners out today that I feel like running off the road in my Suburban! :) ha! Oh, and just found out I got into the St. George Marathon! If I can just get this knee better, I will have something fun to look forward to!

I rode the bike for a little over an hour. My knee was fine, but my hip was hurting. Seriously....If it is not one thing it is another! I see an orthopedic surgeon on Friday to see about my knee that has hurt since the marathon and my hip that has been hurting for 8 months. Yippee!
On a different topic...I have been trying to memorize the presidents and one interesting thing about each of them. While I was walking around Costco yesterday I saw a movie series by HBO on John Adams, so I started watching that while I peddled away on my bike. I loved it. Can't wait to see more. I am going to make myself only watch it while I am in my dreaded basement on some machine...I hope that will motivate me since I can't go outside for a run!

Ssejinja 5K (3.1 Miles) 00:40:00
5K with three of my kids and two nephew on Saturday morning at my son's middle school. My 4 year old ran almost the entire way! It was the cutest thing I have ever seen! It kept bringing tears to my eyes. He ran so hard and was trying so hard to win. He only sat in the stroller on 3 hills and that is because I made him. My 7 year old girl ran her heart out too. It was so much fun! My baby and my little girl came in before my 13 year old did! He was too busy walking with some of the cute girls, but kicked it in to gear when one of his friends passed by him. My two nephews were troopers too! Such a great day! Great that my knee and hip didn't hurt at all too! Went home and peddled away on my bike for an hour and used my new Concept 2 rower that I am in love with right now. Went to an orthopedic surgeon on Friday and he said that I have Right knee IT Band Syndrome and Right Trochanteric Bursitis....YIPPEE! Six weeks of PT and no running....but since I ran on Sat and no pain, I am thinking it must not be that serious??!!! Just got news that they are FINALLY delivering the elliptical and setting it up! They were suppose to come last week....then yesterday....we'll see if they actually show up! Super excited!

| | I couldn't resist getting out today for a run. Blue skies and sunshine! I told my hub that I was just going to run until it started to hurt and then I would walk. He said, "ya right. You will run the whole thing". Well, I did stop at 2.5 to chat with a neighbor and it was hurting so I walked for a bit and ran the rest of the way home. Sore, but not too bad! It was so cool to see all of the Hillcrest High Football team out riding their bikes along Wasatch Blvd for their 50 miler while I ran. I was cheering them all on. My nephew is one of them. At the corner of Wasatch and South Little Cottonwood were 4 Hillcrest cheerleaders cheering them on. It was a fun morning! The mountains are so incredibly beautiful right now! I wish I could have done 10 and then ran up my Bells trail...instead I came home and mowed and edged the lawn. It probably would have been better on my knee and hip to run up the trail and back. I get to go do another charity event this afternoon. I am kind of donated out right now! Don't know how I will do the charity thing since I have a puking kid today and my hub just left town...yipppeeeeee!! If I get some time I will ride my bike for an hour. | |

| | Physical Therapist appt today at TOSH. Great guy, very helpful. Made me watch myself run in slow motion. Taught me how to run properly. Told me I have left side weakness (which I already know) and that is why my right hip and knee are trashed. Gave me some exercises to do to strengthen my hips and core. I've had left side weakness on and off for 10 years. Told by a neurologist after the birth of my second baby that I had "textbook MS". Not something anyone wants to hear. After a year of terrible neurologic symptoms and IV steroids, I gradually got better. My left side has never been the same and I still have problems with it every now and again. My left leg is so incredibly sore tonight after working on all of the strengthening exercises. My right leg feels great. He told me I need to run fewer miles, just do speed work and then cross train. It makes me a bit sad, but I am glad that I am as healthy as I am, and I qualified to run BOSTON! That is amazing since 10.5 years ago I went out for a one mile run dragging my left leg and crying the whole time until I reached my mile point. Life is never dull. Hope you all enjoy what you have! Ran one mile in 7:10.

Do elliptical miles count? Core and 75 min on elliptical. I've discovered that what hurts my knee and hip the most is vacuuming......I think I need a 6 week hiatus to make sure I fully recover. :)
| |
| |
| | 30 min on bike, core workout, 2 miles in 15....then off to a funeral the rest of the day. | |
| |
| | Never did find out....DO ELLIPTICAL MILES COUNT BURT? 75 minutes on the elliptical. 15 on the rower. Core workout. I acutally haven't done it yet! hahah! Okay, okay...I am getting to it right now! | |
| |
| | Got my lazy butt out of bed early to run this morning. I have too many things to do today and couldn't wait until kids were out of the house and my 7th grader was home to babysit because it is jr.high late start day today. 5 miles at 47 minutes! Really....sad, I know! I was a huffing and puffing! Felt good to be out in the canyon. Mtns are beautiful! NO PAIN! I am only suppose to be on 2 miles...but couldn't resist! | |
| |
| | 75 minutes on the HELLiptical! | |
| |
| | I ran 5 in 45 minutes this morning at my moms. I wanted to stop and walk before I even hit a mile! I was huffing and puffing so hard that I about cried! Six weeks without running and I am completely out of shape again! The elliptical and bike do NOTHING to keep your endurance up! I looked at my Garmin at mile 4 and realized that if I ran the last mile in under 8 then I would be at 45 minutes for 5 miles. I ran as fast as I could with both knees stabbing me and got to 5 in 45 and honestly thought I was going to pass out. Everything started to get dark and I was a sweaty mess....and I never really sweat! SAD, SAD DAY! I ran an extra mile tonight with my kids at Dimple Dell trail near Granite Park with lots of horse poo poo. My right knee was stabbing me. Why won't it get better? I am feeling pretty sad for myself tonight! :( | |
| |
| | Core workout and .5 hour on the bike. I am going to change my name to Rice Krispies because all I am doing is SNAP, CRACKLE and POP! My left knee now has a click that pops every time I bend my knee as I am walking! My right knee pops every time I bend down and my ankles are crackling. Not to forget my right hip that has been popping for months now! I am only 38 and you would think I was 88! I have never had knee problems before... and now..since the marathon, I have double knee problems. Old, old, old! | |
| |
| | WOOO HOOOO! I took all of your advice yesterday and ran some trails. I didn't have anyone to run with so I took my mace. I wanted to run the Draper BoSho trail, but I was a bit nervous to do it by myself. I ran from my house up to Bells Canyon Reservoir and back around my house until I hit 3 miles....no pain. I then drove to a trail that is more even and ran 4 there. NO PAIN! I kept waiting for it to hit! It felt so good to be out running without pain today. I can't even say how much I loved it. Great day! Trail running -- I am a fan! | |

We had a new treadmill delivered this afternoon. As the guys were pulling our old one apart a piece of it came flying over to me and the screw that was sticking out of it went into the top of my foot! REALLY?! I had my first pain free run yesterday and now I have a huge bruise on the top of my foot and it hurts to walk! SWEAR WORDS! I just can't seem to get a break! My pathetically out of shape sis signed up to run a 5K with my family in a couple of weeks, so we went on a 4 mile walk today (with my sore foot). She went for a 4 mile walk last week and said she about passed out after she got home! You should see her 5feet 10 inches and a skinny, stick! Unfair! SWEAR WORDS AGAIN! Jun, I think I need a bit more time to get in shape enough to run with you guys. I wouldn't be able to keep up to see the purple, short-shorties and the shirtlessness and that would ruin my run! :)

I had one of the best days ever! I ran 8 in 1:07 (not bad for not being able to run for 6 weeks). I ran behind Crestwood Park in a wooded area along a creek. I saw a cute fox a few times that was running around in the field that I kept circling. I took all four of my kids, plus two friends to the swimming pool for a couple of hours for the first time this year. I then went to see my 13 year old get his black belt after 3 years of work. It was one of those great mom days!
| |
| |
| | I had a crazy, busy day! I didn't have much time to squeeze a run in. I decided to run from my house up to the Bells Reservoir and back. I RAN THE ENTIRE WAY! I did it for Jun (Craig). I thought my heart was going to pound out of my chest before I got half way. I got to the mid point which is flat and was able to get my heart rate down a bit before the second half. The second half was much easier. I ran back down and to my house, which wasn't quite 3 miles. I then decided that I needed to at least do three. Then four. Then five...and at six my legs were hurting and I was waaaay over the time I had to run. Needless to say, I still haven't showered since my run. I figured it was more important to get a good run in today than look or smell good. I am thinking the people around me this evening thought that was a bad idea! ha! No longer Rice Krispies....just Stinky! | |
| |

After getting my two girls off to school and the 13yr old (kicking and screaming :) )to swim team, I took my 4 year old in the stroller behind Crestwood pool again while we waited for swim team to finish. He wouldn't sit in the stroller. He kept running and running and telling me that he was training for his marathon. It was sooo cute! I wish kids wouldn't grow up! They are so much more enjoyeable when they are young. He wore out after a while and jumped in the stroller and nagged me to go to the playground. I spent the rest of the day running kids to and from school. It was field day today. Fun day for the kids. My cute 10 yr old girl wanted to go on a mile jog tonight. We decided to run to the Bells Canyon trail head and hike up to the lake and back. It was so beautiful tonight. We spent an hour talking up at the lake. It was such a fun night and added another 3 miles on for rattletraps family running miles! :)

My sis and I went up the street to Granite Quarry and headed up Little Cottonwood Trail. We found out the trail is closed due to flooding and risk of a bridge that is about to be washed away by the river. We ran into a park ranger that told us we could go up as far as the bridge, but to not cross. We didn't cross the bridge, but headed up on the other side of the river on the pipeline. We saw one deer, one snake and racoon prints. I wish we could have gone farther.

The river was amazing. You can't really see how it was spraying everywhere.

The racoon prints and my 5ft 10in sis.

Of all the days to run BoSho with Jun. Mr. 100 miler! I have a cold and can only breathe out of one nostril... I sound like a man and spent the night cleaning up my 7 year old's puke! Jun put up with my sorry, out of shape butt today. I feel terrible he had to run so slow and watch me walk up the steep hills after he just hopped up them like a jackalope! ha! I was so out of breath that I had to quit talking in some spots, which I am sure was a nice relief to him! It was a beautiful run and the weather could not have been better. It was pouring at my house an hour before the run, but the sun was shining and trails were lightly damp when we hit them. Wonderful run!
| |
| |
| | Still can't breathe, now I can't breathe out of either nostril, headache, plugged ears...yippee! Had to take the kids to our Bishop's pool this morning for a church thing. As I put sunscreen on the 4 year old I turned around and fell on the stairs landing on my back. I would have normally laughed at myself, but I couldn't breathe and this time it wasn't because of my cold. It now hurts to even walk. When am I going to catch a break? I am running at least 10 tomorrow, even if it takes me all day! I am taking the day off! I have too many end of year parties today anyway and I am in a bad mood! :( | |
| |
| | Waiting...waiting... I can't wait to read everyone's posts about the marathon today. I wish I was out running it! I am laying in my bed feeling sorry for myself!!!!! Goooo runners! | |
| |
| | Rock Hudson and Doris Day movie marathon at my house! Day 4 flat on my back, done. | |
| |
| | Chewed down some Ibuprofen and ran 4 miles with my husband's old girlfriend, since we are running a half marathon together in a month. Hiked up to Bells Reservoir with my kids and family. Ran a dirt trail while my kids were at a dance camp. I played at the pool with my kids, then had a Justin Bieber party at my house tonight. I'm still sore, but did it anyway! :) | |
| |
| | Just wondering....is anyone running Bryce Canyon Half in a month? I'm just hoping to see some FRBers down there! It is a beautiful run! | |
| |
| | Ran 11.5 with my 21 yr old nephew. I was pathetically slow, but so was my nephew Michael. We haven't been on a run together since the marathon 8 weeks ago. This is the farthest I have ran since April 16th...sad! I am so out of shape it is depressing! We had a good time laughing at ourselves since just about everyone out running was passing us! | |
| |
| | My legs were sore after my extremely difficult run yesterday. :) Ran to the BC trailhead to head up to the lake. It was such a beautiful morning. The wildflowers are in full bloom. I brought my mace but the trail was full of people today which made it hard to get around some of them. There were so many cute, young girls on the trail today. I am thinking I need to bring my nephews up with me to run the trail on Saturdays to help them meet some cute chics! I was at a wedding yesterday morning. My nephew was married in the Salt Lake Temple. It was such a beautiful day. Elder Russell Nelson performed the marriage. His advice to the newly married couple, Matthew 6:33, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." I kept thinking of this all yesterday and this morning as I ran up the trail. I have been in a bit of a rut lately. I need to be better in so many ways. My new resolve is scriptures everyday...no excuses! They always seem to make me feel better all around. I need to put the most important things first.

I planned on running early this morning, but we had someone that wanted to come and look at our house. So, I set my alarm for 6 and started cleaning. Left the house and hit lunch at Wendy's and went to see Mr. Poppers Penguins. It was cute. We just saw Kung Fu Panda 2 last week and I liked it better. I didn't get to run until 3. I went to my old high school (Hillcrest) and ran around the track and ran stairs with three of my kids. My 4 year old ran about 2 miles. We had so much fun. They played on the grass and bleachers while I ran and then the sprinklers turned on, which made it lots of fun. Great day! I have a 5K on Saturday in Southern Utah. I haven't ran a 5K before...one that counts anyway. I ran/walked one with my kids a month ago. I am in such bad shape right now I am almost afraid to see what time I will get. Oh well, I will have a good time running until I puke anyway! ha! Just added a pick that my niece took of me and my two youngest kids at Bells Canyon Reservoir last Wednesday, when I should have still been in bed with my back because it is still killing me. This is the trail that I run up a couple of times a week. Sooooo beautiful!!
| |
| |
| | I rode 10 miles on a mountain bike down a country road called River Lane in Panguitch, Utah. My legs were SO SORE the next morning that I didn't want to run, but did it anyway. | |
|
| | 8 mile run down the same country rode in Panguitch. It was SO beautiful, but a really hard run for me. My legs were so sore from the bike ride the day before. I had zero energy, it was hot for me (85) and ran 8 in 120..haha! sad! Walked and ran another 2 miles. | |
|

The Annual Panguitch Balloon Festival...three days of getting up at 5:30 to go to the balloon launch area and help my brother get his balloon up and in the air. It really is beautiful to see the blue sky decorated with balloons. This pic is my brother, nephew and sis. They are filling up the balloon.
Smokey the Bear balloon.
My brother's balloon is the black with the rainbow in front.
River lane is on the left. You might be able to see it. I love running down that road.
This is the balloon glow. They light up their balloons at night on the main streets and it is so cool! They only do this in Page, Arizona and Panguitch, Utah.
It was suppose to be my first actual 5K...my 11 year old daughter Sarah, all of my kids, and some of my family were suppose to run it with my while my hub and other family helped my brother get his hot air balloon up for the balloon launch. Sarah decided to become a drama queen Saturday morning an hour before the race. She didn't want to miss out on the fun of getting the balloon off the ground yet didn't want to miss running in the 5K and she wouldn't quit crying! I told her I would run down there to get her before the run started--45 minutes later I ran down to the balloon area and searched and searched for her. Finally, I found my family and they told me she was up in the balloon. It was then only 15 minutes before race time at 7:30. I ran back, threw on my clothes grabbed my mom and 4 yr old and ran to the high school to see all of the runners start running! We were a couple of minutes late! I ran with my 4 yr old on my hip to the starting line and they told me they would start my time over so that my time would be right. I stood there for a second because I didn't know what to do. My 13 yr old, 11 yr old and 7yr old were all with the balloon crew and they were suppose to run with my 4 yr old so that I could actually run it. My mom is 76 and walks every day but she wouldn't be fast enough for my 4 yr old. He is pretty fast but tires out fast too, and then you have to carry him. I decided to be a MOM and make it fun for him and not for myself since he had been looking forward to that run since our last family 5K a month ago. He would run his fastest until he was tired and then I would put him on my back, piggy back style and run with my arms around his butt. My arms were throbbing. It was actually a great workout. We made our way through it and my legs were tired. This 30ish looking blond was running just in front of me and Jake the entire run. I kept getting close to her and sometimes pass her for a second while bouncing along with Jake on my back. I was determined that I was coming in before her. I gave it my all and passed her about a half mile before the finish. I passed about 6 more people my last half mile with Jake hanging on for dear life on the back. I am sure I was quite a sight! haha! We came in at 32 minutes...something. Not bad! The first place guy was 16 minutes something and the first place gal was 24 minutes -- I was sooooo bummed the rest of the day because I know I could have come in under 24 and been in first place! I remember looking at my Garmin on the Bryce Canyon Half last year and at 3 miles I was 21 minutes. I kept feeling sad about it all day, but then I would look at my four year old that kept his little kid medallion on most of the day and kept showing it to everyone and that made up for not coming in first..almost --haha!. We went to Bryce Canyon later that day and I hiked with my 33 year old nephew and 30 yr old niece and my 53 and 45 year old sisters from Sunrise to Sunset and then back, while everyone else with the kids walked the rim. We had lunch on a picnic table in the park. It was such a beautiful day and the orange hoodoos were breathtaking! I am a sore disaster today! My legs from hiking and my arms from holding Jake's butt through the run!! Home again, home again, jiggety jig! :)

Ran around Little Cottonwood and up the Bells Canyon Reservoir. Pics from Bryce Canyon Hike. I wish I was there today!

| |
| |
| | Hot, windy and a crappy run! I thought I was going to die out there today. No energy, side ache and tired legs! I didn't sleep last night. I kept looking at the clock every 15 minutes hoping it would be a couple of hours. I hate days like today! I need to hurry and mow before the garbage truck gets here. :( On a happy note...it is my 15th wedding anniversary. I have the most wonderful hub in the world. I don't know how I got so lucky! Time is going by too fast!! | |
| |
| | My nephew texted me this morning at 3am (woke me up) to let me know that he didn't want to run early, he wanted to start at 10...which ended up being 10:30 by the time he got to my house. He had been out partying with friends all night. Partying in Utah isn't the same as partying in other states--A lot of us are Mormon. We started out going up Little Cottonwood to the mouth of the canyon and then down to Wasatch. We hit a grocery store for Muscle Milk and kept trudging through the misery of the heat! My legs hurt, my side hurt (from laughing at my nephew too much) and just all over misery because I am in pathetic shape! We ran 13.1 in 2:16....no lie, that sad! I didn't even want to post it. It was hard to keep in the 9s! Sad! Sad! Sad! How am I going to run a half marathon in 2 weeks and even get a semi-decent time? I'm not! :( I guess I will get out there and do it for fun and enjoy the beautiful scenery and make a few new friends along the way. I am a bit too chatty! I hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend. I am so grateful for our forefathers that sacrificed so much for their posterity and their beliefs. What a wonderful country we live in. | |

| | Happy 4th of July! It is overcast and a bit humid here in Salt Lake City today which is rare for July. I felt better out running this morning. Ran 10 in 1:30...I know, still sad! I will be lucky if I come in under 1:50 for the Bryce Canyon half in a week and a half. I guess I should just be grateful that I am out running and nothing is hurting on me right now! It is nice to not run in heat and it sprinkled a bit on me here and there while I was out running today. My hub and I went and played doubles tennis this afternoon with some friends of ours and we got poured on. The court was a bit slick but we had a lot of fun. We are now off for a bbq and fireworks. I hope you are all enjoying your freedom on this great day! | |

| | My 13yr old has been a stinker about going to swim team in the mornings. I told him it is either swim team or me for one hour every day. He chose me. I am hoping after a week of me, he will be begging to go back to swim team in the mornings. We ran around the Crestwood trail before my two youngest had swim lessons. James was huffing and puffing and complaining. I was pushing my two younger ones in our double jogger. After a half lap, we ran into a friend of mine. He turned around and started running with us. When I had to leave for swimming lessons, he finished up James' workout for me by running him up hills and running more laps. He brought James to the swimming pool for me and his face was red and splotchy! James said he wasn't feeling very good. He thought he was going to throw up! haha! | |
| |
| | I had all sorts of plans to run today and I ended up cleaning my house too long, making pancakes and bacon for my kids and two nephews that slept over....laundry got the better of me and when I looked at the clock and realized that I was about out of time, I ran down to the treadmill and ran myself sick. I thought I would get to run later today but again ended up with too much going on around here. What can I say....I am a mother of four and I like to play more than work! 4 hours at the pool today about did us all in! My house is clean and laundry done and we had a fun day. Not a great run day for me. I am becoming more and more afraid of my Bryce Canyon half marathon in a week! ha! | |
| |
| | Ran to Bells Canyon Trailhead and up the trail and a quarter way around the lake and back. The runoff is still high so unless I wanted to go swimming in glacier water I had to turn around. Sooo humid today. I was dripping with sweat! This is not like me and not like SL weather....what is the deal? Off for the Ballet West dance drop off and then swim lessons and to exercise James into vomiting today! :) Yee hoooo! Fun day ahead!!! | |
| |
| | Humidity is 75% today. I might as well have taken a shower in my running clothes and gone out for a run because that is what I looked like out running. My nephew said he has never seen me soaked before. This is not a normal July in Utah! Barely made 17 miserable, long, nasty, unbearable miles today. My legs were throbbing! My nephew Michael and I were laughing until we were crying we were so miserable out today! We are both in pathetic shape right now. I can't wait until our miles get up and we can not be in so much pain while out running! | |
| |
| | Hiked up to Bells Lake with my girls before church. | |
| |
| | My sis from Seattle was in town and she wanted to hike up to Lake Blanche and Lillian up Big Cottonwood. She cancelled on me because of the storm Sunday night. She was worried we would get caught in another thunderstorm or stuck hiking in the mud, so we hiked up Little Cottonwood and then Bells. Trails were fine. | |
| |
| | I was planning on running outside, but my 4 year old thought I was going to run in the basement and was so excited to get down there and play while I run....I ended up running on the tread for him. | |

Bryce Canyon Half Marathon (13.1 Miles) 01:38:29, Place in age division: 6 | | I couldn't decide weather to run an easy half and run it with my friend or make it a race. I was at the starting line and the gun went off and I thought...well, it is a race and even though I am not in the greatest shape thought I should give it my all. It was a PR for me. It was a fun run and made some new friends along the way. I'm in Lake Powell now and had the most beautiful run yesterday morning from Page, AZ to the Wahweap Ranger Station. I ran across the Glen Canyon Dam Bridge. So beautiful. This is my favorite place to run. I love Powell! Two full days of water skiing, wakeboarding and tubing. Kids are having fun. One more day to go in the sun! :)

| | Ran from Page, AZ to Wahweap Ranger Station. Ran across the Glen Canyon Dam Bridge. Beautiful! | |

Ran around Panguitch and down my favorite River Lane. It was the 24th parade on Saturday and I sat on our little float with the kids (just to make sure my 4 and 7 year old didn't end up falling off) throwing candy to all the kids on the street. We ended up at my husband's family ranch for the rest of the day having mutton, beans and potatoes. Rick has a family reunion there every year and we never miss it. I'm with our friends that we went to Powell with. Bruce dropped us off at the start and went to the finish to run the 5K and Terri and I ran the half. Had to post my Bryce Canyon time.... I'm 6th place. :)

| | Crawled out of bed at 7:30 this morning to find my husband had already been up for 2 hours. He hit the grocery store (since we have been gone for 10 days) and already crossed several things off of his list to do for the day. He asked what I had planned for the day. Hahaha! I said, "a run" :)! He didn't look thrilled. Can't I just relax after cooking and cleaning for 10 days? A family vacation is really no vacation....and it was Rick's family reunion too. I already did all of the laundry at our house in Panguitch. The house here was spotless due to the fact that our house is for sale. Rick is very much type A and loves living by a schedule and I couldn't be more opposite. Rick was mowing while I left the house for a run. The run started out terrible. Side ache, zero energy and feeling very sick! I knew I would be hitting a park about mile 3 with a restroom. I was sprinting for the restroom by the time I got there. I passed three grandmas sitting on a bench watching their grandkids playing on the playground. After getting the toilet paper surrounding the metal bowl and getting ready to sit down I hear some cackling at the door and loud talking. The grandmas had to have stood up and headed for the restroom door just after I passed them! Really? They didn't notice a sick, pathetic looking runner heading for the potty? I have 4 sisters and 3 of them have terrible public restroom phobias -- luckily I don't have that problem. I thought if they are stupid enough to not notice me running by them then they deserve a shock! It suddenly went quiet and I didn't hear them anymore! ha! I know TMI! I didn't dare leave the restroom for a while-- I was not feeling well! I started back at it again and headed down Bengal Blvd and when I started back up the hill a guy in a wheelchair was having a hard time getting up the hill. I stopped and turned around to see if he needed some help or just wanted a workout. We ended up chatting for about 20 minutes. He was in a ski accident 11 years ago and broke his neck. I then chatted with a lady in her 60s that always runs along Wasatch Blvd and I had already passed her about 45 minutes earlier. She said that she used to run marathons but runs for stress relief these days. She is taking care of an elderly mother and kids are back living at home with grandkids. I decided to head up to Bells Canyon Reservoir about mile 8. I chatted with EVERYONE along the way and realized that there must be something wrong with me because I am just too darn friendly and chatty! I saw a dad that was at least 400lbs hiking up the trail with his 3 kids. I know that had to be really difficult for him and I was so impressed that he was out hiking that I couldn't help but tell him what a great dad he was and encourage those little ones and tell them what great hikers they were. Then I thought that I would not talk to anyone else because I was spending way to much time talking to everyone today. I then ran into a neighbor and talked to her for 5 min. Then I really decided that I need to just say hi and that was all and a minute later 20 BYU coeds were coming at me with blue shirts and shorts with cougars on them! WHAT? I couldn't help myself. I had to ask why they were a little too far north and were they lost? I told them I needed to have my Utah clothes on. They were really fun. They all said that they were aware they were in enemy territory and were trying to be careful. After I passed them, I thought that was stupid since it was 20 to 1. Then I chatted with a lady that was having a hard time getting down the trail. Chatted with a couple more groups before I got to the bottom. I got to the bottom and realized that I didn't miss chatting with one group. I really hope that I am not one of those irritating people that just talks too much. I guess I am! :( Made it home and my hub was out running errands and here I am stinking up the house and on the computer instead of in the shower. Off I go! I hope you all have a good day today! It is a Utah State holiday today. | |
| |
| | Here I sit stinking up my house again when I am suppose to be getting things ready for the pool today! Started out my run by chatting with a neighbor for a few minutes before I even got out of the neighborhood! I decided I was really going to discipline myself today and not talk so that I can actually get a good workout instead of stopping throughout my run. I started running up the canyon when I saw one of my favorite 70 yr old ladies that walks around the canyon picking up trash that lazy people have thrown out their windows. I just smiled and waved and did not stop like I wanted to. I then ran into another neighbor that was out walking that I know has been having health problems and again, I smiled and waved....so not like me. I felt guilty after passing them. I got to park about mile 3 that I stop at to get a drink from the fountain. I ran past a guy standing all by himself on the tennis court holding two rackets. Before I knew it, I said, "Got stood up today, huh? Haha!" Then he said he was just hoping for someone to come by to hit with him and asked me to come and just hit a few balls with him. The thought immediately went through my mind that I should have just kept my mouth shut! I heard myself say, "sure". Heard all about him moving here from California, his divorce, his job. He is a 45 yr old bail bondsman. Nice guy. He would like to play tennis together a couple of times a week....don't know about strangers...kind of made me nervous. HALF an HOUR later...I headed back on my run. So much for my workout today! One thing did really make my morning that hasn't happened in a long time. I heard a bunch of yelling and honking behind me about a mile before my home. I thought it was probably someone I know or something crazy going on behind me. It was a truck load of teenage boys .... I bet they were shocked to see my 38 yr old face as they passed. Still made me smile and made my morning! ha! | |

No running today. I will be cleaning and packing all day. I am heading up to my parents cabin in Woodland. My nephew and I will be running 18 tomorrow. We are running from Woodland to Kamas and around until we hit 18. It is a pretty run along the Provo River. One of my friends just gave me some pics from Bryce Canyon. I thought I would add them to show the before and after look. BEFORE Bryce Canyon start. 5:20 a.m. It was in the 40s. It was really cold!

Finished!
Chip cutting AFTER (yikes!)

Siiiiick!! I was about to barf!

Susanna Lew (Smooth) She sent me a message letting me know she was running the half and sent me her number. I forgot to put it in my phone before we left town. I looked for her EVERYWHERE at the start and couldn't find her. After I finished, I went to watch all the runners sprinting towards the finish and I saw her. I think she came in at 1:48 and PRed. She came in 3rd in her age group!!! :) It was so fun to meet her and her husband. Her husband is one of the most wonderful and supportive spouses!

These are my friends. Bruce ran the 5K and Terri is my hubs old girlfriend and now one of my best friends! ha!

| | Ran along the Provo River with my nephew Michael (21). First 10 miles were so slow and miserable. Honestly about barfed passing one of the stinkiest roadkill! After 10, I started to feel a bit better. We were planning on 18, but we took too long and my two sisters picked us up as we were running around Kamas and we decided to call it a run so that we could get our Diet Peps at 7-11. It was HOT and I think the altitude about did us in! | |
| |
| | I was planning on getting up early for a run since my visiting teachers were coming at 8 this morning. I woke up early and thought I would just rest my eyes for a minute and the next thing I heard was the doorbell at 8am. haha! I hit the door at the same time as my kids. My hub left for work at 6:30 and the rest of us lazy slackers slept until 8! After my hour visit I got ready for the run. It was a HOT one today. I don't know if it was just too hot for people to be out or if they know me by now and when they saw that I was coming they jumped into a ditch or bush to make sure that they didn't have to waste their time talking to me today! :) I felt great until 6.45 and then I felt as if I was carrying around an extra 200lbs! I was exhausted! It didn't help that I have a half mile of a hill that is about 1.5 miles from my home that looks and feels as if you are running straight up. I goosed it the last .25 and then stopped at the stop sign that is always the end of the run for me. After I stopped I thought I was going to pass out. Everything started to get dark and I was a soaked mess. I got goosebumps all over me and thought I was going to puke! It is only 2 months from St. George marathon. How in the heck am I going to get my butt in shape to run that in Boston time? Dang! | |

I spent too much time cleaning my house. We have interested people that are coming through again next week. I only had time to squeeze in three fast ones before taking a bunch of people to the dollar movies with me. We saw Kung Fu Panda 2 for the second time. Some of the people we were going with hadn't seen it. I just love Poe's dad the goose. He makes the show for me! ha! I am probably going to hike somewhere with my sis today. She flew in from Seattle yesterday and I am on my way to pick her up in a few. It looks like another hot day around here so I better squeeze the pool in too. I really think I am going to start to wear sunscreen since a little girl at church the other day poked at my arm and said, "Ewww, what is wrong with your arm? You have polka-dots". The only reason I am tan is because I have so many darn freckles. Born into a family of eight with 4 red-heads, 3 brunettes and 1 blond. My dad looks albino and cannot tan and my mom can get tan but freckles....if I keep tanning myself like I do I am going to look like I am going on 70 instead of 40 next year! :(
| |
| | Hiked 6 up Little Cottonwood with my sis. | |
| |
| | I hiked up to Lake Blanche this morning with a brother, two sisters, a teenage niece and a nephew. The nephew that I usually run with was suppose to come up with us too, but he cancelled at 6am. He does that sometimes. He missed out because it was BEAUTIFUL! It is 3 miles up. 6 roundtrip. I haven't been on this trail since last year. After we got to the top I had to head back down. I had a busy day ahead of me and I couldn't stay and go over to Lake Lillian and hang out and chat with my family like I wanted to. I started to run down the trail and my left knee was killing me. I tried to walk fast, slow, run, everything was hurting my knee. I had planned on running from the trailhead home. When I got to the bottom of the trail, my knee was hurting so bad that I didn't know how I was going to run the 8 miles home! I thought I should probably not run on it and just wait for my fam to get down the trail.....but I didn't. I had to get home. My in-laws were having a bbq at noon for my birthday and my daughters bday this week. I started running and it was hurting. I kept hoping that my family would not stay up there for too long and they would pick me up on the way back to my house to pick up their cars. My hub stopped to pick me up about 1.5 miles before I was home. He was headed to his moms. I have never been so happy to cut a training run short. I usually can't stand to not finish what I have planned on running. I am a bit smarter now that I used to be. I would have ran hard on a hurting knee before. I am really hoping I didn't damage anything that will make me have to stay off of my knee for a bit. I only have two months to get in shape for St. George! | |
| |
| | Had a busy day. I put on my running shorts in the morning and didn't get to my run until 8pm. I was worried that my knee would start hurting again. I thought I would just get our for a run and see how it felt. It felt fine and didn't hurt at all. I don't know how it could hurt so bad on Saturday and hurt to even walk on Sunday and then be fine by Tuesday....owell, I am not going to complain. I ran around here and the last two miles were in the dark. Kinda scared me a bit. It was cool and a bit windy and felt really good! My hub was headed out of our neighborhood to find me when I cam running down the canyon. | |

My brother from California wanted to hike one more trail before he had to head home. We hiked up to Red Pine Lake up Little Cottonwood. It was so cold at the start. My hands were numb the entire hike. We saw two moose, 4 deer and one rabbit on our hike. We were the only ones heading up the trail. We Started up before 7am. On the way back down we saw about 15 people heading up. It was fun to spend some time with my brother. He is 17 yrs older than I am. He is the first of the family and I am the last and it is funny how much we are alike even though we weren't raised together. My birthday on Monday and my daughters birthday on the 10th. We headed to Cowabunga Bay a water park. My husband had the day off and we decided the kids could take friends. Our Suburban was loaded. On the way home my 4 yr old was trying to get his wrist band off that I put on for the water park. All of the other kids were able to pull theirs off. He was crying and saying it was cutting off his circulation. I tried to pull it off from the front seat but couldn't get it. I got out a pocket knife from our glove box and popped it off for him since he was causing a stink. I found some sugar free candy in the glove box and I grabbed one out and had the wrapper in my teeth. Then all of the kids wanted one of the candies....I was trying to dig down to get the candy out. They were all saying how hungry they were even though we just got them ice cream before we left the park. I still had the knife in my hand and I was trying to get them all to be quiet because they were all cold and hungry and crying.......I flipped the pocket knife to close it and it caught my other hand. Yep.....SHIZZZ came flying out of my mouth with a car load of kids. It hurt so stinking bad! Blood starts gushing out, I quickly grabbed the wet wipe bag in the glove box and looked to see if my husband noticed how bad it was bleeding. I kept holding pressure on it and hoping it would stop bleeding. NO SUCH LUCK! I kept peeling the wet wipe back and as soon as pressure was off it would start bleeding again. We were suppose to drop off friends and go out to eat for Sarah's birthday. I asked Rick if he could stop at a grocery store so that I could get some steri-stips to hold it together. He was ticked! We stopped at a grocery store and he went to hop out to get it for me but one of his sandals fell apart and the bottom of his shoe came off! It then became funny to him that we were just a bunch of bad luck! I went in to get the strips and he came walking in with a big rubber band around his shoe to hold it together. We couldn't quit laughing! No steri-strips at that grocery store so we went across the street to Walgreen's. The rubber band broke that was holding his sandal together as we left the store and we were laughing again. He grabbed the sole of his shoe and was trying to run on the black, hot pavement to the Suburban. It was pretty funny to watch. Finally got the strips to put on my hand and my hand wouldn't quit bleeding enough to even be able to put them on. Rick was not laughing anymore and took me to an insta-care to get stitched up which is not good since you can't get stitches wet and we are suppose to be heading to Lake Powell in 3 days! Rick took the kids to eat while I waited for the doc. I asked the doc at Instacare to please just glue it back together because I didn't want stitches and was heading to Powell in a couple of days. She said she wouldn't touch it. They refunded my money and told me I had to go to the ER at IMC and have them call in a hand surgeon. She said it was deep and right over a tendon and they would have to decide if I needed surgery to fix it or I would eventually have the tendon break in half and lose mobility of my finger.......REALLY! I sat waiting for Rick to come back and pick me up and I was trying not to have a break down and cry in the Insta care. It was my daughter's 11th birthday and we were going to go home and make cinnamon rolls together, because she loves cinnamon rolls and wanted to learn how to make them. We are having a big family/friend party at a pool we rented out on Saturday where we will have a big cake for her, but still I felt terrible that I would be ruining her birthday. Rick came to pick me up and I just couldn't tell him. I felt sick. He said..well, did they stitch you up? What about Powell? I started to cry and said that the doc wouldn't touch my hand and I had to go to the ER at IMC. There was another hospital that is just up the street but the doc said that I needed to go to the IMC because it was serious. I felt terrible. We got home and Rick called my mom to see if she would come up and make cinnamon rolls with Sarah and to babysit since we might be at the ER forever because my hand would be at the bottom of the list in importance. My mom and dad came up and saved the day! ER was funny with lots of funny stories. They peeled back my hand an said the tendon was fine and stitched me up to leave. WELL, I didn't get feeling back in my finger and the next day my finger is still numb. Rick called in a special favor to have me be seen by an orthopedic hand surgeon yesterday because we were worried that a nerve had been torn at the ER because I have had no feeling in my finger at all and the anesthesia should have worn off. The hand doc said that it was not normal to not have feeling back yet but in rare cases it could stay numb for up to two days, but very rare. He said there is NO WAY I should go to Lake Powell and that I would end up getting an infection and have to have surgery and lose mobility in my finger. Yippeee! My finger is almost back to normal. It hurts to type because of the stitches in my hand but at least my finger doesn't feel like it is 10 times the size of normal and feel flubby! I am a walking disaster area! I don't know how my hub puts up with me! I am ALWAYS doing stupid things. I am running a long one with my nephew this morning. He wanted to sleep in, so we are going at 9. It will be a hot one for us today by the time we get out running. I better get ready to go! I hope you all have a great weekend and PLEASE think about things before you do them! :)

| | Fun run with my nephew. He had been in California for a week, so it was fun to hear about his week vacation. He is as crazy and accident prone as I am. I noticed about half way through the run that my right foot was really hurting, since my hand was really hurting the first few miles, maybe I didn't notice my foot pain. It has been hurting a little for the past couple of weeks. I thought that I should probably stop but didn't. It is really hurting me now. If I have another stress fracture.....swearwords! I have already paid 500 bucks for my room in St. George that is non-refundable! Maybe I am just not made to run. :( Maybe it is nothing and will feel fine tomorrow...at least that is what I am hoping for! | |
| |
| |
I ran 5 in the 90 degree heat at 12 noon and loved ever second after not running for a week. My foot was feeling a bit better and I had my dr. appt at 2. Foot was a bit tender but nothing like a week earlier. The orthopedic foot doc at TOSH said about 5 times...it is a stress fracture. 3 x-rays of my foot and they showed nothing....he said that X-rays don't show stress fractures. THEN WHY WOULD THEY MAKE ME HAVE THEM IF THEY DON"T SHOW THEM???????? He said I needed to wear the boot for 4 weeks. I said that it was feeeling so much better and I had St. George in 6 weeks. He told me I needed to have an MRI of my foot to show the stress fracture so that I would believe him, if not I would end up breaking the bone straight through and need surgery if I didn't stay off of it. He said the nerve pain and tingling is all a result of the stress fracture that has caused swelling on the top of my foot. I went out to my car and cried! I decided not to have the MRI because I don't want the expense or the radiation. I have the boot on today. I haven't showered. I am depressed! I had to go to the school to meet with the school nurse for my daughter that has foot allergies and ran into every mom that I know....they were all dressed up and looked like they were going to a fashion show. I didn't want to talk to any of them. They just don't get it! They would be thrilled to have a reason to not have to exercise and most of them don't exercise anyway. I can't explain it to anyone. It just makes me feel better and I love it. I had greasy hair and scroungy clothes and no makeup on because I have cried about it a couple of times today. They kept asking me, what is wrong Amy?, Why the boot?, are you okay? (because I look like I crawled out of bed!) :( :( :(
| |
| | It has been a month since my 18.5 run that caused the stress fracture after a fun week of too much hiking and trail running. I am going crazy! I am up to 113.5 pounds. I don't remember the last time I weighed this much! :( I was sitting yesterday and felt that awful familiar feeling of having a fat roll hang over my pants!! I am a definite pear shape so when I can feel the fat on my stomach.....I know my weight is getting up there! I see the doc in one week. I am hoping I can start back up again. I am feeling like I want to head out today in this beautiful fall weather and run up the canyon, hit the trails and get that tired leg feeling that I love so much. I downloaded a bunch of new songs to my ipod and have it ready to go. I can't take it anymore! I HATE the boot! | |
| |
| | Things are looking up today! I see the doc at 11 and I just registered for Boston. I am hoping I get the green light to run today and .....sooooooo hoping I make it into BOSTON! It doesn't hurt that is is a beautiful day today. If I get the green light.....I will be running 2 today! | |
| |
| | Fourth day of having my boot off. First day......I wanted to be bad, but was good. I only played soccer and tennis with my 4 yr old (Jake) in the front yard and walked down to pick my kids up from the bus stop. Second day....I thought I was going to be good, but ended up being really bad! I signed up for kickboxing classes and tried really hard not to kick with my healing foot. It was tingling on the top of my foot after class. I then went to my moms with my running gear, so that she could watch Jake for me. It was such a beautiful day and the temperature was perfect. I had my ipod all ready to go with some new songs. I thought I would just run for half a mile and walk for half a mile. I started running and IT FELT SOOOOO GOOD! I got to a half mile and my foot felt fine. I thought I better keep going because a half mile was not very far. I got to a mile and I was in heaven.....so, I kept going. I noticed at just a little before mile two that I could feel some pain on the top of my foot, but I thought maybe it was just because I have been wearing a boot for a month. I kept going until a little over two and then walked back to my moms. Foot was not feeling great. I headed over to a sports store to buy Jake some boxing gloves so that he can join me in class and I found a great pare of Asics Nimbus that are new and I decided that I had to have them. 130 bucks later......I having remorse. Not for spending money but for running. Foot is still a bit swollen on top and red.....WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? I am so impulsive! I always do things and don't really think about them until after! If that has caused me to get back into the boot for another month.....I will need to get on an antidepressant! Third day.....I only did yard work. Fourth day....I did my kickboxing again and rode the stationary bike for an hour. So much for 20 minutes every other day on the bike.... Why can't I just be patient? | |
| |
| | I hr on the bike and .5 on the elliptical. My 4 yr old was a nag today. I kept having to take care of him instead of exercising. I was planning on 20 minutes on the elliptical, but I could hear him screaming from upstairs to "come wipe my bum." ha! Called it a day after that! Heading to southern Utah for the weekend....YEEEHHAW! | |
| |
| |
I'm sooooo excited! I will be running Boston in April! Yippeeee! I have been waiting and waiting. We were on our way back from southern Utah and a friend of mine texted that has been waiting to hear too. She is 40 and ran it in 3:46 and she needed 3:50. I needed 3:45 and came in at 3:41, so we were both about the same qualifying time. She got an email. I still haven't got an email but I am on the entrant list! The only turned away about 2000 qualifiers.....I have been feeling sad for them all day.....but happy for me! Foot is still bothering me! I don't know if I should just throw the boot back on for 2 weeks or what? I really want to get better. My fat butt is putting too much pressure on these bones of mine. I slowly keep gaining..dang it!

| | I had to get out and enjoy this weather today. I have been trying so hard to stay in all week! I have been riding the stationary bike every morning for an hour before my kids are up. Kickboxing today and then after taking my 4 yr old to preschool, I just couldn't stay away from the Bells Canyon Trail any longer. I ran down to the trailhead from my house and started up. Almost to the lake when I heard a rattle and saw the tail of a snake close to where my foot had been. It started heading down the side of the mountain just off the trail. It scared the beejeevers out of me! I started to shudder and thought I was going to puke. I got to the top and I usually head around the lake but I saw another hiker and she was heading down and I told her to watch out for the rattlesnake that was just a bit from the top. I was too afraid to head around the lake by myself after that and headed back down with her. As we got close to the spot that I saw and heard the snake, I told her we were close to where the snake was and just then it started rattling at us and she ran by and I was screaming! ha! She looked back off the trail and told me that I should be okay if I ran past it that it was far enough from the trail that it probably couldn't bite me. I ran up on the side, it was rattling and I was shaking! I have NEVER seen a snake up there only cute, little lizards and squirrels! Creeped out! My foot is now hurting me....crap! | |
| |
| | I put the boot back on today :( !! October 1st and I plan on wearing it for the month. I need my foot better and this is the only way that it will get better. It was hurting like it did before the doc this morning after my stationary bike ride. The top of my foot is hurting and the tingling is worse than it has been for a month. I shouldn't have gone on my run/hike the other day....I just thought it should be healed by now. I am going to cut down on my Diet Pep and go and get more calcium pills. I already eat pretty clean and good (other than my addiction to Diet Pepi). I have got to get better!!!! I can't stand not running and hiking in this weather! :( :( :( :( !! BOO | |
| |
| | 1 hr on the bike.....1 hr on the elliptical in my basement. YUCK! I've had a busy week of kids and showing our house. People like it again and are thinking about it.....this will be couple #4 in the past few months that are very interested and I am sure we will never hear from them again. It is okay because my house was needing a good deep clean again. I like it when I have to clean for a reason and not just my everyday routine! I don't know what to do about my foot. This is the first time I have been on the elliptical that the top half of my foot didn't tingle and I am not having any pain, but I have also been wearing my boot most of the week. I am crossing my fingers! I just wish someone would tell me what to do. I really don't want to re-injure my foot, but I would really like to get back at it so I can be in good shape for Boston. I called and can't get in to see my orthopedic doc for a month since it is not an emergent problem. I have an old boyfriend that lives out of state that is a podiatrist.....I have even thought of sending off a message to ask him his opinion, but since he hates my guts, I guess that isn't a good idea either. Wish I knew what to do! If I just had some patience and didn't care about getting out of shape, I am sure taking a couple of months off and doing nothing would do the trick! :( | |

I wish I could throw on my shoes and run my strength out this morning. I know this is a running blog and I can't run....but, I wish more than anything I could run today. Running just makes me feel better all around. I need it, I'm addicted to it....I love it. I got up early even after I was out late last night and got on my bike this morning and watched the news while I rode for an hour since I am going to be at the elementary school volunteering for most of the day. Got the kids off to school all but my 4 yr old and 13 yr old that has late start this morning. I got on to check his grades and just don't understand how he can not turn things in or study for his tests. He has been tested for a lot of things because he was sent to earth with quite a few problems that have been difficult for him. His IQ is 98th percentile (so he is brilliant) and yet has ADHD. All he cares about is food and video games. I told him to turn off his video games and that he knows the rules.....if things aren't turned in and he gets below a B-, he is grounded. It was WW3 this morning. You get married and have children and think they will be like you and then I think God does a funny trick on you to teach you patience, love and understanding and sends you a child that is nothing like you. It is not that he is a teenager that has made him difficult. He has been difficult from birth. I just need a good run today to make me feel better. The bike just isn't cutting it! :( To top off my fab day, I get to head to southern Utah again to ride atvs and shoot guns...two of my least favorite activities and my husband's favorite activities. I really need a good run today and one to look forward to to help me through the weekend! ha! Come on all...I can't feel good from a run. I am needing a PUMP UP! I can be a good wife and mom this weekend...I can, I can! :)

| | I again called the orthopedic doc at TOSH yesterday. I told his assistant that I just couldn't wait to see him in a month and could she please talk to him. She called back and now I am going in today for an MRI on my foot and will see him after they get the results back. I should have just got the MRI in August. We are heading to San Francisco tomorrow for the UEA weekend. I am really hoping I don't have to put the boot on for the trip. I am curious to see what is wrong. I have been good and haven't been running. I just ride the bike every morning. I wonder if that is contributing to my foot not healing. We'll see..... :( | |
| |
| | Went to the doc today. MRI looked good. Only problem was edema and extra blood flow to the area, but other than that looked good so he said to start out slow....run 8 minutes to start. I ran a little more than a mile in 8 minutes. I walked the last mile. I thought I would have stayed in a little better shape. I was huffing and puffing! I wasn't thinking and grabbed my fav running shorts and a tank and went to my moms for a run. When I put the shorts on my 5 extra pounds made them feel tooooo tight! I can't wait to run that off! My foot still doesn't feel right. The nerve that keeps zinging and making half of my foot tingle all of the time is driving me crazy! San Francisco was such a fun vacation. I would love to live there. I have never been in a city with so many runners out at all hours of the day. Running the wharf and across the Golden Gate Bridge is now added on to my bucket list! | |
| |
| |
Ran 2.55 in 21 minutes. Rode the bike for one hour. I am so upset with my dr. right now. He is suppose to be one of the best orthopedic foot docs around here! My hub is a doc and just printed off my mri report for me. He just called me and said that there is not excess blood flow to the area or edema (like the doc said) but there is a cyst. They don't know if the cyst is synovial or ganglion but there is a cyst right in the area at the top of my foot where I have been having pain and tingling. The doc did tell me that there was a cyst in my foot, but it was not in the area of pain it was farther up and nothing to worry about. I don't even think he really read my report! My husband says that he sees these types of cysts all of the time and that you can't tell what kind of cyst they are until they are taken out. He said if it is bothering me I should just go and have it taken out so that I can start running again without pain. Maybe I didn't even have a stress fracture after all? I am so irritated!

Ran 3, walked 1. I should really only be up to 1.5 miles right now, but 1.5 hardly seems even worth getting out for. Rode the bike for 1 hr and core work. RLRF is my new plan. Thanks IJR/JG/flatlander/derhammer for all of the fun info. When I went to a physical therapist in June/July for my bursitis/ITband syndrome stuff after my last marathon, he told me about this type of running and how you can actually get better results by running less, just training harder and cross training. I just really didn't believe him and besides...I just love to run. I have a friend that is a mother of 8, just turned 40 and she qualified for Boston this year too. She was telling me how she just didn't have time to run every day so she tried the run less, run faster program and only ran one long run a week. She said that when she did her runs, they were really hard and not a lot of fun, but she used her time well. She said that when she qualified she was holding back, walked quite a bit, and qualified by 4 minutes just like I did, but she felt great and wasn't even sore. I couldn't walk for 3 days after qualifying and I pushed myself the entire last 13 and felt like I was running on broken legs the last 5 miles! ha! I am going to try it. I just need to get my bones, and muscles built back up again so that I can start to train! yeeeehooooo!
| |
| |
| | Ran 4 in 35 min 20 seconds.....thought I was going to puke when I finished because I goosed it the last .3! I have no idea how I ever ran a marathon after my run today. ...4 miles about killed my pathetic body! I don't know about the run less, run faster program.....I can't even run slow less! I was pushing myself to run under 9 minute miles and it was so hard! I woke up this morning and felt like a hunk of crud and it has lasted all day. I whipped my kids into cleaning rooms before school today because we haven't been home for days....it's been a crazy around here. I deHalloweened my house and put up Thanksgiving junk and went for a cruddy, slow run and have been running kids around ever since! :( | |
| |
| | Ran 5 around my Little Cottonwood loop! It felt so good to be able to run my favorite route again. I didn't think I would make the last .5 uphill with the wind blowing on me...but I did it. My legs are worn out and feeling so tired and I am loving that familiar feeling. Still feel like a hunk of crud! ha! | |
| |
| | Ran 5 in 41:30 on the dreadmill! It was torture...I'm not gonna lie! Ha! I missed all of the great fall running weather and now I am stuck running inside...dang foot! Half an hour on the bike too, I was procrastinating getting on the treadmill. :) | |
| |
| | Ran 5 in 44 minutes...haha! Pathetic, I know! It was tough too! Rode bike for 20 and elliptical for 20. I did a kickboxing class yesterday morning and it kicked my trash! My body is so sore...I LOVE IT! | |
| |
| | Stomach flu going around my house. Started last week with my 13 yr old. I had one kid sleeping next to me and one at the foot of the bed on my feet all night. I didn't feel great yesterday and thought I was going to puke all night....brought back great pregnancy memories. Couldn't stand the smell of my kitchen this morning, had to Lysol and open windows, kept running to the bathroom. On the bike for 30 minutes and tread and dread for 1 hr. I had to get off a couple of times, walk a bit, but ran a full 5....just not fast. I actually didn't feel like I was going to puke while running. Glad the run is over and hope to be feeling like I am unpregnant soon! Bleh! Hope you have a nice weekend all! | |

Still feeling fluey, but much better than the past two days! Went around the corner from my house to run the Half Pregnant Half Marathon that Jun put on this morning. I only ran the 10K. It was suppose to storm this morning, but luckily it waited until now. It was windy at the start and I was the only girl there. I was a bit disappointed since I thought Kelli, Smooth, and maybe Rad would be there. There was no shortage of guys however. Dorsimus looked especially cute with his largely pregnant belly. I couldn't look at him without laughing! I brought a balloon to put under my shirt to run half pregnant looking, but Jun (Craig) needed it since he forgot his and besides, I have been pregnant enough. I didn't meet anyone from the blog except Dorsimus and Jun. Craig's mom and a friend showed up right before the start and I was gladly not the only gal there. The race started and the large pack of guys running the half were off and not long out of my sight! It was a great run. I have only been up to running 5 for a week and since having the flu and not feeling great, I was a bit worried that I would be running for bushes. I ran into Leslie the half pregnant runner that the run was put on for when I was on my way back with about 2 miles to go. She came a little late. She looked cute running with her little bump. I got a little nervous when I was all alone and ran across a bridge that had a picture of a LARGE cougar that had been on that bridge recently! yikes! The run was beautiful. The smell of fall was in the air and it was so nice to be out on the trails again. I haven't been able to run that far since the middle of August. I brought my ipod, but didn't even turn it on. I wore some old running shoes because I thought I would be a muddy mess by the time I finished. It was a bad idea since there were quite a few areas that were icy and I was slipping all over the place. Loved the run. Wish I could do runs like that more but am always a bit afraid to go out on my own never knowing if I will run into a cougar or a creeper. Thanks Craig for putting on a fun run!

| | I woke up feeling great and looking forward to a great run of my favorite Little Cottonwood 5 miler and then heading up the Bells Canyon trail up to the lake and back after dropping off my 4 year old at preschool in the afternoon. So, I cleaned and did laundry and then looked at my calendar and I stared at the 1:30 ortho appt. for my 13 yr old! UGH! I was so bugged! I then thought, it is suppose to be nice weather tomorrow too, so I will go tomorrow. Then I realized that I get to go to school with my preschooler for a parent day party. I finally have my miles up a bit and the weather is not going to be nice like this for long and then I will be stuck with my treadmill! :( I dropped off my 4 yr old and went to the middle school and parked. I turned on my Garmin. I didn't know where I would go, but started to run. I had 50 minutes. I ran up to the mouth of Big Cottonwood and back with 4 minutes to spare. It was beautiful. It was a fun run. I loved every second of my 50 minutes of freedom! I listened to Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker while running today. I love classical music....I think it comes from a father that would blare Mozart, Bach and the Three Tenors during every family road trip. I hated the music then (still don't like Opera), but have grown to appreciate it in my old age. My daughter has been in the Ballet West's version of the Nutcracker every year for the past couple of years. When I am tired of watching ballet, I close my eyes and enjoy the beauty of the Utah Symphony Orchestra as they play in the Capital Theatre....nothing quite like it! :) | |
| |
| | Ran my Little Cottonwood loop. What a morning! Loved every second of it. My legs were so sore after my kickboxing class yesterday and I almost took the day off. So glad I didn't I forgot my 13 yr old has late start today so I threw on my shoes and headed out. Beautiful morning. My legs felt great and I can tell that I am getting in better shape. Yesterday felt like a marathon and today is going to be the same. Heading to volunteer from 9-1 at the elementary school. Early day for the little ones and then I am getting them off to friends for one sleepover and some until Rick gets off work. I have to drive across the valley in rush hour traffic to meet my sisters for the Twilight movie. My sis has a friend that rents out a movie theatre every year and she buys all of us tickets for a sisters night out. I can't wait to eat popcorn, laugh and have a fun night with my sisters! IJR, I read your daughters blog two nights ago and just haven't had time to respond to it. She is an amazing girl. You must be so proud of her. Everyone should read her blog and donate to her missionary effort if they have some extra to give. | |

I got the "Worst Mom in the World" name calling again today. My 13 yr old somehow has teachers that just don't mark his work down right because three of them have his assignments marked as a ZERO - MISSING. While I was on him for his school work, I started in on his messy room...it just started the afternoon out great. I had two hours before I had to take another kid to a birthday party, so I thought I could definitely use a run and had time to get one in. Started out by drinking an Atkins protein shake before my run....BAD IDEA!!! 1.5 miles into it I started not feeling good, I almost threw-up. My gut started to explode with air. My intestines started hurting so bad. I had to stop and walk for a bit because I thought I was going to explode from one end or the other. I turned around before my half way mark. I almost went to the house of a cousin of my husband that was on my way back, but the thought of asking to use their bathroom, when it might end up like the Dumb and Dumber bathroom scene made me think that an accident on the rode would be better! ha! I had to walk most of the way back and I was in pain. Rick had been at the UofU basketball game and passed me as I was walking into the neighborhood. I wish he had been driving by 20 minutes earlier! What a great day! ha! I better get to Costco on Monday and buy my favorite brand of protein drinks that I am out of. Atkins is going in the garbage!
| |
| |
| |
Yeeehoooo! That is the farthest I have been able to run since August! After telling my family on Sunday about my painful and embarrassing Saturday run....I decided to dig the Atkins back out of the garbage and keep it for my family Christmas White Elephant party! heehee! I thought I could wrap them up with some Depends! ha!

Beautiful, beautiful day in Salt Lake....just couldn't be any better of a day! Kickboxing with my 4 yr old in the morning, then after dropping him off at preschool I couldn't resist to run again today. Ran 4 around Little Cottonwood and headed up to Bells Canyon Reservoir. There are just no words as to how amazing it was out there today. View of the whole Salt Lake Valley and the view of the mountains and Bells reservoir....soul warming! On my way up the Bells Canyon I had a memory flashback of running the trail with a neighbor two summers ago. She was training for the St. George Marathon (I didn't get int that year) and I had just finished my second marathon. I ran my first marathon in 4:16, second in 4:04. I really wanted to get under 4 for my second marathon and I ran as hard as I could and just had no steam at the finish. She knew all of this and told me that anyone can run a marathon, but someone that can run a marathon in under 4...now that was something! I can still remember that I couldn't believe she could say that to me after knowing that I had just run a 4:04. Some people! She did run the St. George and she ran it in 4:45. She told me that she just didn't really train there at the end and she didn't even push herself and so she was amazed that she ran it in 4:45 because it wan't even difficult for her. Why, do I still think of that every time I see her? ha!! I am soooooooo immature! Church this week was all on loving, serving and forgiving. I need to do some service this week! :) My thoughts...anyone that can run a marathon in any amount of time....that is something! I forgot...another great part of my day... I got honked at by a motorcycle guy! ha! Now when you are getting close to 40 and have had 4 kids and are wearing tights and you get honked at, that is always a good day! YEEEEEHOOOOOOOO!!!!!
| |
| |
| | Ran Little Cottonwood in my red Utah shorts :) I hope this isn't the last time I wear them until April. | |
| |
| |
Yeeeeeeehooooooooooo! 10.5 Black Friday run on the Jordan River Parkway with a group of FRBers put on by the Dekker girls. It was so fun to meet RAD, Quiet Pirate, Kelli, Allie, Chad, Catherine, Faceless Ghost and Smooth for the second time. There were a couple of others, but I forgot their names.....my Alzheimer's is setting in already! Loved, loved it! Thanks for the fun run RAD!! I chatted with Allie most of the run. I was huffing and puffing and she wasn't winded and didn't even break a sweat! ha!
| |
| |
| | First 3 were miserable.....last 3 felt great! | |
| |
| | Went to the running store to buy some running skirts to cover up. Bought two new skirts and a new pair of Altras. My calves are hurting after running in them and so are my shins. We'll see how they work. Ran 3 and felt pretty good. Off to do the running kids around. :) | |
| |
| | 6 miserable, long, terrible miles! I went to my moms early for a run so that she could babysit and I wouldn't have to run on the dreadmill....bleh! I thought I would start out slow and pick it up at the end. I was sloooooow all the way through. I never felt good and wanted to walk the entire run and I was so slow that I would have probably finished 6 earlier if I had been walking! BAD run day! It is my hubs birthday on Saturday and the entire run today, I was trying to come up with something to make his day special. He is turning 44. He is 5 years older than I am and somehow looks 5 years younger! What do you get a man that has absolutely everything??? His birthday is going to start with our 7 yr old performing at the Festival of Trees, then our 13 yr old is testing for his 2nd black belt, then our 11 yr old has a party and then our 13 yr old has a black belt party that the family is invited to....long day filled with kid stuff and I don't know when I will somehow make it fun for him to celebrate his special day. We don't even have enough time to go out to lunch or dinner together. Friday night is full with kid stuff too. He always tells me not to buy or do anything for his birthday, but when I have not made it special in some way, I can tell he is disappointed. :( | |
| |
| | NADA! It is a big, fat, lazy Amy day and I don't care! :) | |
| |
| |
Ran a half marathon in 2 hours with my nephew. Great day! I ate a good breakfast, drank a protein shake on my way to meet my nephew and chewed down a cran-razz Shot Blok at mile 6. I think I have been feeling crappy because I have been trying to lose the 4 pounds that I gained while I sat around while my foot was healing for 2 months. It just isn't working and I am tired of always feeling hungry! I'm going to change my blog name to fatandhappy! :)
| |
| |
| | It is toooooo cold to run outside this morning! 20 minutes on the bike 1 mile warm up 5 in 40:47 walked .6 until my hr on the dreadmill was up. I thought I was going to puke after my 5 miler...I did sprints at 6.6 to 6 min miles and jogged at 8.5 to 9 min miles in between to cool down. I won't lie...sad, but true, the 8 min mile ave. kicked my trash! I don't like running on the treadmill, but it does make me pay more attention to my speed. I'm getting in a little bit better shape. It is going to take me until Boston to get there. I hope my 4 pounds comes off along the way! :) I watched the new Fame while I ran. I bought it for my daughter to watch because she loves dance. I thought I would watch it first just to make sure it was okay for her to see....BORING! I think that made my treadmill hour longer than normal! ha! | |
| |
| | My kickboxing class about killed me yesterday! I still am in pain after the endless squats, lunges, pushups, situps, kicks, and punches! I have been doing this class twice a week for over a month now and it is still kicking my butt! I rode the bike for 20 to try to loosen my incredibly sore legs. I got on the treadmill and ran a mile warm up and 5 in 41 again, then walked until I had to drive my little guy to preschool. My legs are so sore and are killing me! I am thinking that cross training is not such a great idea! Good thing is that I bought The Help yesterday and waited for my dreadmill workout to watch it. I am finishing the rest of it on my bed with my sore legs elevated! What will help get rid of SORE legs??? | |
| |
| | Ran 13.1 in 1:59 with my nephew and his friend. Running with two, 21 yr old boys was fuuun! We laughed the whole time. We decided to make it 14 and ran the last mile as a cool down. | |
| |
| |
Ran 6 at my mom and dads this morning after taking my son to the doctor. He broke his foot last week at Taekwondo...doing some kind of jump-kick. It felt like I was running hard and really fast....haha!! I'm not even going to say what I ran it in! My two youngest are fighting and crying. Time to throw them in the tub and get the 7 yr olds reading/math done. I need to clean up the kitchen from dinner and I have a two loads of laundry needing to be folded and calling my name. Yeehaaaw! I am super excited! ha!

I hurt my foot.....the same foot.....at kickboxing last Wednesday. I guess I really shouldn't be kicking a large bag with the top of my foot when I have a cyst and just healed from a stress fracture. I haven't been on the blog because I was so mad about it!!! It hurt to walk again and was aching most of the day, every day. I didn't run on Thurs or Friday. It was feeling a bit better on Saturday and I thought I would head out for a run on Saturday morning, but my husband got paged into the hospital because someone had just died that was a donor and he needed to go and make sure all of the organs were healthy enough to be used for transplants. Sad day that someone lost his life before Christmas, but whomever it was gave some wonderful gifts for those waiting for a new life. I quickly threw on my running clothes and drove my daughter downtown for dance at the Capital Theatre. It was soooooo cold. The car said it was 22 and I sat in the car with my seat heater on procrastinating until it warmed up...but it never did! I guy runner passed my car and I thought I better get my lazy butt out and into the cold. I ran around the Salt Lake Temple and old Tabernacle, Joseph Smith Memorial Bldg., it was beautiful. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir music was playing on the grounds. Brides were out in their white gowns and everyone was there taking pictures. It was a fun time to go and run around the grounds. It made me think of my wedding day, and it also made me think about my family history. My great, great, great grandfather Wilford Woodruff was the 4th president of the church. I thought of how the media has recently said how the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints aren't Christians. I also heard some people on the news saying that it is too bad that all of the Mormons weren't all killed by the mobs in Illinois. Mormons have endured a lot. I think it is great that two "Mormons" are running for president. I wish now that I would have graduated in political science in college. I just love politics and history and can't seem to get enough of them. For being a "non-Christian" three of the probably 30 couples that have been through our house that is for sale have told the real estate agent that we have too many pictures of Christ in our house and that we should take them down. We didn't have any family pictures that were good enough to send out as a Christmas card. My husbands brother took 3 pics at my 7 yr olds dance performance. My 13 yr old wasn't smiling in ANY of them! This was the best of the bunch and it just had to do. He was ready to leave and didn't want to be there in the first place. What do you do with an ornery teenager?
Merry Christmas!!! In case you can't see it.....it says MISTLETOE! :)
I chased everyone around at my family party with my home-made kiss snatcher! :D I ran 5 in 39:29 on the dreadmill this morning.
| |
| |
| | 5.5 outside around Little Cottonwood in the beautifully clean air! It was so nice to be able to see the valley and not feel like I was giving myself lung cancer with every breath! | |
| |
| |
Gorgeous day! Started out early in the teens, I finished in the 20s. It was cooooold! Ran 13.1 in 1:50 exactly. I really wanted to get under 1:50, but couldn't do it today. I really just wanted to beat my last half marathon run of 1:59 with my nephew since he cancelled on me again this morning. I texted him as soon as I got home just to bug him! ha! I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!!!
| |
| | Bike for one hour and core workout | |
|
| |
Heading out for 8 right now. I have everything from Christmas put away. It has taken me about 2 full days! I decided that I am not putting up Christmas next year! ha! I wouldn't let myself get out for a run until all of the crappy work around here was done! I am heading out around Little Cottonwood and up and around Bengal Blvd and back....weather is not looking so hot. I wish the sun was out! I hope the kids all survive while I am out and the fighting is kept to a minimum!

| | I am worn out today! 3 days of working out in a row and my body is wiped! I think I will take the day off since I have to spend the day downtown and I am running 13.1 again tomorrow. I need some energy. My old, bod just doesn't get back in shape like it used to. I'm hoping my bod can get it together by April 16th! | |

13.1 in 1:48:52 -- Crappy, no good run today! I wasn't in the mood to head out, no energy, no one to run with.......got ready and pushed myself today. I knew I was in trouble by the time that I hit the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon about .7 from my house. I am usually still chattering from the cold and today I was already in a sweat. I was wishing I had my short, running shorts on with a tank. Took off my sweaty hat and gloves at mile 4 at my pit stop at the Smith's on Bengal Blvd. and chewed down half of a Shot Blok. Mile 5, I started to have stabbing pains in my left ovary. Guys just don't have the same cyclic problems that women do and it just isn't fair. I thought I was going to die of pain by mile 6...I had to stop and walk and about 6.5, I almost stopped a car to take me home or to the ER. I was in so much pain....by mile 7...I thought I was going to die, the cyst must have popped and it started not hurting as bad. By mile 8.5, the pain was gone. I have had this happen to me several times, sometimes it is during races. It seems to happen more when I am pushing myself. Really, it is not fair that guys don't have to worry about when the race day is and where their cycle is and how their body will react. I pushed myself the entire run, I really wanted to come in under 1:50 so that I could beat my last weeks run since I was running the exact same course. I felt that I was pushing myself too hard. I thought I was going to puke from mile 11 on. I kept getting hot and it felt like my legs were going to crack they were hurting so bad. I think it is interesting how different the exact same run can be one week later. Last week I pushed myself, but I felt great through the whole run and thought I could run another 5 after I had finished. This run, I was never so glad to have it be over and I laid on my parents living room floor and thought I was going to puke for about 10 minutes after the run. I did meet my goal...I ran it in just more than a minute faster than last week. :) I'm wondering how I ever ran a full marathon after a run like today! My hub was sick with the stomach flu last night. I am still feeling sick. I hope it is just from a hard run and I am not getting the flu too! yuck!
