Short-Term Running Goals:

Recovering from micro-fracture surgery on my right knee.  I tore the cartilage off of my knee while doing a speed-training run one month before Boston.  Doc gave me a cortisone shot so that I was able to finish Boston.  After the surgery, I was told to never run again. :(

Long-Term Running Goals:

QUALIFIED FOR BOSTON! April 16, 2011

Ran Boston on April 14, 2012!

Personal:

Married, 40 year old, mother of four.

"In truth, runners don't race other runners.  They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares.  And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better." Running for His Life by Michael Hall

Went to the doc today.  MRI looked good.  Only problem was edema and extra blood flow to the area, but other than that looked good so he said to start out slow....run 8 minutes to start.  I ran a little more than a mile in 8 minutes.  I walked the last mile.  I thought I would have stayed in a little better shape.  I was huffing and puffing!  I wasn't thinking and grabbed my fav running shorts and a tank and went to my moms for a run.  When I put the shorts on my 5 extra pounds made them feel tooooo tight!  I can't wait to run that off!

My foot still doesn't feel right.  The nerve that keeps zinging and making half of my foot tingle all of the time is driving me crazy!

San Francisco was such a fun vacation.  I would love to live there.  I have never been in a city with so many runners out at all hours of the day.  Running the wharf and across the Golden Gate Bridge is now added on to my bucket list!

I WOULD LOVE IT! Just looked it up. Only prob is I am running Boston one month later! I don't know if my hub would let me since he is not the biggest fan of my running addiction! ha! I'll have to work on him. Are you running it? We really should get some FRBs to get together for some of these fun runs. 2013 I am doing the Great Wall of China Marathon in May, we should get a group together to do that. Any interest??

You'll be back to form in no time.

I don't know....my form is more like a bowl full of Jello right now! ha!!!! I think my running is going to be more of a nice massage from the jiggle than a workout! :(

Ah, 2 miles, I thought it was just one...Yeah! I know what you mean about the tingle in the foot, my toes go numb when the weather is below 60...it's really annoying!

My husband was offered a job in San Francisco in August. He took the job he was offered here in Utah instead, but oh man, I was kind of hoping to move there. I would be a great fair weather runner! :)

Just getting caught up, great news that you are started back in. I hope the numbness goes away soon.

Glad you got the green light ... ease back into it, so hopefully there will not be any setbacks!

Serious.. Wall of China 26.2.. Sounds awesome.

From Steam8 on Tue, Oct 25, 2011 at 11:03:44 from 166.70.55.77

Completely serious. It is a little less than 3000 for 5 days including some touring. Start saving! I was going to do it in 2012 if I didn't get into Boston. You have to register as a group. I was going to do it last year but couldn't get anyone to go with me with one month notice. My hub doesn't want to waste his time off on China and has no desire to run a marathon. They do have a half and 5K on the Wall too.

Lily...be glad he didn't take the job there. SF is great and it would be fun to live there if you didn't have any kids. It is kid friendly for a vacation, but the housing is expensive and tiny and no yards for kids to play...I wouldn't think it is really safe for kids to be running around and playing anywhere there. When we were driving home from the airport, it felt like you could actually breath and everything was spread out instead of crammed together. Utah is beautiful nd lots of room to run around! Running the wharf and GG every morning would be fun though!

Good to see you with some miles! Hopefully the problems stay away for good. The China marathon would be one for the books, sounds cool.

Glad to see the mile, nerve pain is a beast and a half. I hope you can figure it out. Maybe we should all take a SF trip :)

From Oreo on Tue, Oct 25, 2011 at 16:29:03 from 206.81.136.61

I'm down with the trip - just let me know.

YAY!!! So happy you got the go ahead to run!!! So excited for you!

Hey, I may be in China May of 2013. My bro-in-law ran the Great Wall couple years ago. It is an event for sure!
