"In truth, runners don't race other runners.  They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares.  And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better." Running for His Life by Michael Hall

Fourth day of having my boot off.

First day......I wanted to be bad, but was good.  I only played soccer and tennis with my 4 yr old (Jake) in the front yard and walked down to pick my kids up from the bus stop.

Second day....I thought I was going to be good, but ended up being really bad! I signed up for kickboxing classes and tried really hard not to kick with my healing foot.  It was tingling on the top of my foot after class.  I then went to my moms with my running gear, so that she could watch Jake for me. It was such a beautiful day and the temperature was perfect.  I had my ipod all ready to go with some new songs.  I thought I would just run for half a mile and walk for half a mile.   I started running and IT FELT SOOOOO GOOD!  I got to a half mile and my foot felt fine.  I thought I better keep going because a half mile was not very far.  I got to a mile and I was in heaven.....so, I kept going.  I noticed at just a little before mile two that I could feel some pain on the top of my foot, but I thought maybe it was just because I have been wearing a boot for a month.  I kept going until a little over two and then walked back to my moms.  Foot was not feeling great.  I headed over to a sports store to buy Jake some boxing gloves so that he can join me in class and I found a great pare of Asics Nimbus that are new and I decided that I had to have them.  130 bucks later......I having remorse.  Not for spending money but for running.  Foot is still a bit swollen on top and red.....WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?  I am so impulsive!  I always do things and don't really think about them until after!  If that has caused me to get back into the boot for another month.....I will need to get on an antidepressant!

Third day.....I only did yard work.

Fourth day....I did my kickboxing again and rode the stationary bike for an hour.

So much for 20 minutes every other day on the bike.... Why can't I just be patient?

Patience is a tough thing of us pain in the butt runners. Don't be too hard on yourself, just do your best to hold back! How does it feel now after a few days? Keep up on that bike!! Kickbox it if you have too :)

You are doing fine, although I wouldn't have the nerve to tell doc about kick-boxing.

I think you are doing well too, but I see your weight is now 500 pounds. Might need more than 20 minutes on the bike to burn some of that off.

Good luck with the foot, hope the swelling is gone soon.

congrats on the 500 pounds. i have read several studies stating that's the ideal weight for a runner.

WOW, how many cookies have you been eating to console yourself????

You know what, your choice to run was totally normal. We all do it. ;o) It is so hard to be patient! You live and you learn. But it will get better, IT WILL!!!!!

SO, are you coming down to St George at all (like, was it a family trip)?? Just wondering if we will see you.

Keep at it, and do what you can. Runners don't really know how to be patient.

My wife makes a delicious triple layer chocolate cheese cake if that would help.
