Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Couldn't sleep having nightmares about Boston.  Called the health department and left message... hadn't heard back yet.  Snow/rain/cold was my excuse for NOT clearing the tree branches from pruning we did.  Living on an acre with 25 fruit trees and a jungle of poplars is a real pain.

Got on the treadmill and did workout #10 with variable speed and incline.  Max speed was 7, max incline was 10.  Kept pace steady on the three "hills".  Legs felt tight around mile 2.5 but loosen up afterward.

5.25 mile.   AP: 10:00.  Around the World Core 25 reps.  AM Yoga

Had a fabulous lunch.  It was a burst of sunshine in the midst of a stormy day.  THANKS Teena!

Nightmares? You should not have nightmares about Boston you are so ready.

Your run sounded just right, not too hard not too easy.

From Smooth on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 18:24:24 from 70.56.102.54

Thanks Kathie. I have butterflies in my stomach just thinking about Boston. They're not kidding when they call it "Taper Madness"! I just HAD to run to keep myself sane! I'm such an oxymoron.

From Kelli on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 18:34:59 from 71.219.84.191

I am glad that you two had that fabulous lunch to distract you from homework and pain and Boston and so on!!!

Living on an acre is a pain, that is why we moved and we now have NO yard!

From Smooth on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 18:37:37 from 70.56.102.54

Kelli,

We had halibut and seafood gumbo. You would have been disgusted. Can I move to your house when Steven moves out of mine.

From Kelli on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 18:48:53 from 71.219.84.191

You are right, I would have been disgusted! My ham sandwich was much better.

Yes, you can move in! Then I will have someone to run with every day, and not so super early in the morning!!!

From Rhett on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 18:55:57 from 170.215.58.122

I'm glad the legs felt a bit better today. Rest day tomorrow right? BoSox game in 3 days!!!!! Looks like all this bad weather training you've done is going to pay off.

From Smooth on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 18:57:48 from 70.56.102.54

Yeah, Emma would be in school. We can run whenever we want, have lunch whenever we like. You can show me some of your kickboxing moves. Hmm, what to do to convince Scott and Larry?

From Smooth on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 19:01:50 from 70.56.102.54

Rhett ~

BoSox game in 3 days. Do you know that I've NEVER been to a major league baseball game? I don't like hot-dogs; may be that's why. But I am very excited to see the Red Sox. Who are they playing anyway? I'm excited to see you and the gang in 3 days. I better get packing.

From leslie on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 19:20:48 from 76.23.61.78

I have not been on the computer much these last few days, I hope your son is okay, I have never heard of that illness.

Lose weight on a taper? I wouldn't know I can't lose weight period. Maybe you are anxious and burning more calories? Just a thought, I don't know. I bet you are excited, you will do great!!!!

From Rhett on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 19:52:17 from 170.215.58.122

I greatly dislike hotdogs as well and for that matter, ballpark food. I'll probably grab a bite before we go and then eat after the game as well. I think they are playin Baltimore, or was it Clevland? I don't know. It's more about the experience and being with the gang than the game. Hopefully we won't freeze.

From Smooth on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 20:54:17 from 70.56.102.54

Leslie,

Pertussis is also called Whooping Cough. Your kids got the DPT immunization. I'm sure my son is fine.

I am excited and nervous about Boston. That could be the reason for the weight loss. Good thinking!!!

Rhett,

I hope we don't get rained out. Do these games go on forever? I'm flying in on a red eye which translate to no sleep. I hope I don't fall asleep during the game like my hubby does at symphony concert. LOL!

From Kelli on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 22:13:47 from 71.219.84.191

Oh, you guys are missing out. There is only one occasion where I will eat a hot dog and that is at a ball game! It adds to the experience. Wish I was coming, I would eat all of your hot dogs!

From Smooth on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 22:18:34 from 70.56.102.54

Kelli,

My hubby goes to R.C. Willey just for the hot-dogs!!! I don't think hot dogs are meant for human consumption. Just the thought of it makes me gag. :p

From Kelli on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 22:19:51 from 71.219.84.191

POLISH DOGS rule the world, that and ice cream.

From Smooth on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 23:06:55 from 70.56.102.54

Now, we're talking! Bratwurst and Haagen Daz!

From Rhett on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 23:12:57 from 216.67.216.116

Smooth, some ball games get long. 3 to 4 hours. Usually closer to 3. I'm arriving Sat. morning on a redeye as well. If it gets too long or cold or wet, we can always bail. I love going to ball games though. I grew up going to the games and I try and take Chase to a few games a year. I'm a National League guy though, so I don't know much about the AL teams we will be watching.

From Smooth on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 23:18:29 from 70.56.102.54

Rhett,

Larry found a Sacrament Mtg. at 11:00 am we'll be going. Are you interested?

From eric on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 23:33:09 from 75.167.70.53

What's this about calling the Health Dept? Bordatella Pertussis? Whooping Cough? Is Steven Sick? Are you sick?

From RAD on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 23:37:54 from 67.166.99.8

You are so great Smooth!! I think its funny that your having nightmares about Boston...SL is such a 'little' race and I'm having 'daymares' about it :) Nothing keeps me from sleep - except going to bed!

I'm with Kelli, I'll take a polish and sauerkraut with some icecream for dessert any day!

From Smooth on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 23:42:59 from 70.56.102.54

eric,

I got a call last night from Camie's mom. She told me Camie was diagnosed with Pertussis. She emailed me a letter from the health department informing me to call them because Steven had close contact w/ her over the weekend. Steven is not sick. He had a sore throat the weekend of his b'day. He has been gone to his friend's b/c it's Spring Break. I am not sick. I just don't want him to catch it and give it to me.

From eric on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 23:46:16 from 75.167.70.53

Oh, I see...is Camie Steven's girlfriend? Close contact, eh?

From Smooth on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 23:51:38 from 70.56.102.54

That's what Camie's mom said: "Tell the health dept nurse that Steven is Camie's boyfriend. And he's been exposed." O brother, HE BETTER NOT HAS a GIRLFRIEND! Camie's mom said she's been "wanting to meet me." ICK!

From Teena on Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 10:20:03 from 67.177.20.13

Smooth,

Yes it was a burst of sunshine!!! I love you so much!!

I'm sure I will talk you to again before Boston ... but sending you lots of positive Boston vibes anyway!! (Can't start too early.)

LLLL

Off to Del Mar now. It's not the place I told you, it's called, "L'Auberge."

From Rhett on Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 10:48:11 from 216.67.216.116

Smooth, Yes I am. I was eyeing one at 1 pm in Cambridge. I didn't want to get up early enough to catch the 9:00 meeting, but 11:00 sounds even better than 1. We'll talk about it Sat. and decide what time we need to meet to get there. Thanks for the invite. Going solo would have been fine, but it will be nicer to go with someone I know.

From Amber on Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 11:11:05 from 64.255.88.143

Smooth,

What a crazy week for you, , ,nothing ever goes quite "smooth" like we plan huh? But you are going to do great at Boston and hopefully your weight loss will just let you 'fly'! I'm with the other commenter, I can't seem to lose weight: taper or train!

I'm so excited for you and can't wait to hear all about your baseball game and the race!

I was reading my scriptures last night in 2 Nephi and I came across your banner title: Spiritually Minded Is Life Eternal! Yeah! I didn't know you were quoting scripture, but it made me smile to think of you and what an amazing little runner woman you are! Rock the house in Boston! Don't eat a hot dog, , , , yuck! I found a pig nipple in a piece of sausage one time and now my stomach hurts when I hear about pig parts for dinner!

Hope your son is ok!

From Bec on Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 11:20:33 from 205.123.38.98

Smooth,

You sond like you are running strong and ready for Boston. I have not had nightmares about Boston, but worse things. I told my Girl Scouts about my dreams and one little girl told me they meant that I was stressed! I think that she is right.

From Smooth on Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 11:22:47 from 70.56.102.54

Good Morning Amber!

You don't need to loose an ounce. You're tiny as it is AND you have a little baby.

Hey I'm so HAPPY to hear that you found THE scriptures. Don't you just love reading the Book of Mormon? We've got to give the Lord equal time. I DO NOT like sausage...might as well be eating dog food.

Rhett,

OK, We can talk about it Sat. I'll PM you my cell. I'm inviting Canyon too.

Teena,

GOOD! That means NO bed-bugs for you! Sorry I gave you goose-bumps. YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME in DEL MAR! Don't even miss the kids. It will be over before you know it. Are you coming home on Sun.?

From Smooth on Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 11:25:18 from 70.56.102.54

Bec,

I'm going to think of good thoughts and not stress over it. You do the same. Think of it as a running party with 25,000 of your best friends!

From Bec on Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 11:46:07 from 205.123.38.98

I am so stoked. But the "race" factor always leaves me a little nervous. SO EXCITED!!!!!

From MissFIT on Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 11:55:44 from 163.248.142.143

From Smooth on Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 12:02:30 from 70.56.102.54

Kristi,

THANKS! I better BQ this year so I can run Boston with you and Huans32 next year. Well, not together...you two are too fast for me...you know what I mean. I hope to see you at Ogden.

From Kelli on Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 13:24:07 from 71.219.75.132

Thanks Amber, I do not think I will ever be able to eat a hot dog again. That will haunt me every time. GROSS!!!!

HAVE FUN SMOOTH!!!!!

Have a great time in Boston! I'm excited for you!

From leslie on Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 16:35:27 from 76.23.61.78

I don't know when you are leaving, so I am wishing you the VERY BEST right now!!! Have a great race and enjoy the whole experience of Boston!!!! You are one awesome lady!!!!

From Amber on Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 23:18:04 from 64.255.88.143

Sorry to ruin all of your high hopes for yummy hot dogs and sausage pizza! Just eat with care . . . . they really do just blend up the pig and call it a hot dog!

From Amber on Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 23:20:47 from 64.255.88.143

. . .and yes I love reading the Book of Mormon Smooth. My life goes so much better when I am 'spiritually minded'. More peace, not necessarily less problems, but always more peace and ample help from the Lord. Thanks again for all of your inspiration, you are an amazing instrument for good!
