Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

4 weeks 'till Boston!!!

Winter returned this morning.  So I scrapped my VO2 max workout (was going to do 9 Yasso's).  Opted to run a tempo run under "controlled" environment.  Warm up for 2 miles then ran 5 miles at 8:34 and 8:27.  Ran the last 5K at 8:20.   Felt good throughout the run.  Drank 6 oz water after 60 min of running.  Walk for 5 min. cool down.

10 miles in 1:26:25  AP:  8:38

AM/PM Yoga

Push up: 50, 15, 15, 20 with 5 seconds pause between sets

Breakfast: kashi cereal with milk, yogurt, banana, gatorade.  Lost 0.5 lb post run.  Drank 24 oz water.  Lunch:  stir-fry of sugar snap peas, sweet red peppers & chicken breasts over rice, apple, almonds, blue berries.

Found out my oldest son (eric) is on this blog.  Too bad he lives so far; or he could do some training runs with Sasha and talk Russian.

Smooth, is it just me or are you getting faster and faster? That is terrific and you are going to do so well at Boston. I can't wait to see how you do.

Hey mom,

So I think you mistook me for another eric. I just officially registered and started my own blog just so that you wouldn't get confused. Here is the url: http://freeheel.fastrunningblog.com/

I feel kind of silly for doing this, since I don't use the internet for stuff like this. Anyway, it will be fun to read about your runs!

Awesome run Smooth! This weather is depressing, spring is teasing us!!!

From MarcE on Mon, Mar 23, 2009 at 21:26:45 from 206.225.68.10

Smooth..your menu is making me hungry. I wonder if I ate like you I could get down to 99 pounds?! Probably not :) I'd be happy with 190.

4 Weeks it is! Wow, these weeks will just fly by!

Welcome, Freeheel, Eric! You're mom is the most popular blogger on this site...she's quite the athlete. Now that she doesn't have quite so many of you at home, she's got a lot of free time for running marathons, etc.. :)

Hey Eric,

I did confuse you with another Eric on the blog. He listed himself from Lehi, is that weird or what.

Glad you had a nice Spring break in Chicago. Gary is coming into town this weekend. I'm running a half in Riverton; he might sign up. We got our Boston bib #. His is 1480 with the elites. Mine is 20085 with the sweepers. 28 days to go. WooHoo!

I can't wait to come see you, Marianne and your new baby girl.

Happy to hear that you find time to run with your busy life. GOOD LUCK with school. We pray for you every day. LOVE YOU!!!

Marc,

Hey, that was just half of the day's food. For dinner I had spaghetti, salad, bread, orange. I might have some dark chocolate at bed time. NUM!

Smooth you are so amazing! Fast running and good eating...Wow, oh...maybe thats my problem, slow and crappy eating! I'm excited to see you Saturday, hopefully I'll be a little more energetic by then! There are so many of you speed demons, I'll definatley be at the back of the pack :) I'll try to keep up with you, then I can finish in a good time!

Great job as always, Smooth. Don't you love this snow (said with a touch of sarcasm)?

4 weeks huh? I'm so jealous!

From Rhett on Tue, Mar 24, 2009 at 12:26:53 from 170.215.58.122

Nice tempo run Smooth. I hope we don't have to worry about winter weather in Boston this year. You really are getting fast.

From Smooth on Tue, Mar 24, 2009 at 16:21:58 from 71.36.65.79

Rhett, Rachel, Dale,

Thanks for saying I'm getting faster. I don't feel like I'm getting faster. I guess at my age, just maintaining is an improvement. Like the saying goes: The older I get, I faster I WERE, hah!

From Kelli on Tue, Mar 24, 2009 at 18:16:39 from 71.219.76.202

You so ARE getting faster. i have run with you enough to see that!
