Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

The Stake Primary Presidents Breakfast went well.  All 13 presidents came.  I lead the music, conducted and taught.  It was supposed to be an hour meeting.  But everyone lingered and stayed for 40 more min.  I made it home in time to take Steven to Orem for his violin lesson.  Ate a yogurt and a huge Kneader's cinnamon roll with a tall glass of milk.  It was 3 pm by the time I made it home.  Hubby said we had a wedding reception to go to and he wanted to leave by 4:30 pm.  Darn, I had wanted to run 12 but not enough time.

The sky was sunny blue, no wind, temp was around 28.  Wore the clothes I will wear for Painter's and finally my new shoes, WooHoo!  Since I had no gatorade or gel, I decided to split the run in two so I could run home to get a drink.  Then I would run the second half at marathon pace.  First time this week I didn't have to worry about my footings.  The wheezing was only on the uphill portion.  I was glad to get home to blow my nose and took a drink of lemonade with an electrolyte capsule.  It was the BEST run this year!!!

10.5 miles in 1:30:50.  AP: 8:39.  Splits:  8:44, 8:16 (downhill), 8:44, 8:58 (uphill), 8:41, 8:36, 8:22, 8:55, 8:46, 8:27, 8:31

Went out to dinner after the reception.  I was starving.  I ate twice as much as hubby.

Smoothie Q!!!

AMAZING RUN!!! Wow -- how in the world did you do that after being sick? Your sub-2 hour goal for Painters is way too conservative. Come on ... give it to me straight ... what are you really shooting for??

Teena!!!

I just ran fast because I knew I had to be home quick. My nose was running faster than my feet. I don't know if I can sustain that pace for the entire 13.1. My pie in the sky goal is 1:57. You think it's doable? I'd be happy to come in sub-2. Love you.

Smoothie Q ...

1:57 is for sure doable for you. Like I said, you are being far too conservative with your goal. I am so excited!!

Smoothie Q,

You are so stinkin' cute. I have school this week so I will just drive up late Friday afternoon. I have a room at our timeshare, so I am good. I probably will just get there in time for a quick bite to eat, a quick visit with my sister-in-law, and some sleep. So don't worry about me.

I can't wait to see you!

Are you doing the forum luncheon after?

See Smooth? you did a half mile more than I did and you finished it 11 minutes faster than me. You should easily get that sub-2 hour goal.

From Smooth on Sun, Jan 11, 2009 at 00:22:55

Teena,

Good plan. Yes, I want to do the forum luncheon after. Have fun with school this week. You're one busy girl. LLL LLL LLL

Dale,

I didn't have to watch SpongeBob like you did. LOL. I'm not sure about the "easily". THANKS for the vote of confidence,

Happy for you and your best run of the year...and the year has only just begun, so you'll have plenty of other bests to come!

Also happy for you (and a little bit jealous) and that big cinnamon roll! ;)

From leslie on Sun, Jan 11, 2009 at 19:28:02

What a fast run! I guess a time crunch can be a good thing! You are going to great at Painters!!! It will be fun to spend some time with you and the gang.

From Smooth on Sun, Jan 11, 2009 at 22:59:56

Kathie,

Thanks. Looking forward to seeing you and your sisters at Painter's.

Becca,

Do you miss a good old American freshly baked warm cinnamon roll? I actually like the pastries sold in European style bakeries in Hong Kong. They are light and not too sweet.

Leslie,

I tend to lollygaggle on my long runs. Time crunch can be a good thing. I can't wait to have a good time with the gang at Painter's.
