AM:  68F, 100%, fog/light rain.  7 miles total.  Headed down to the track to splash around at 1-mile pace today.  8 x 400 @ 1-mile, 90 sec rest.  The rain had me feeling good again and I averaged 75.8, which is about a half-second faster than I've ever done this workout.  Individual reps were 77.8, 75.4, 78.0, 76.8, 76.6, 76.3, 75.0, 70.3.  I may have even (unintentionally) sandbagged a little as it was pretty easy to drop the pace at the end.  For me, the key with this workout is getting your legs used to a very unfamiliar pace by running a little harder than you think you should.

About 2 weeks out now from my first-ever track race - the 1600!

PM:  4 on the TM, including 7 x 45s hill sprints, ranging from 4 - 5.5%, and 10-11 mph.

Saucony A5 - Blue Miles: 11.00
Weight: 148.20

Look at that finish!

You gonna shoot for sub 5 in the 1600?

Jake - that's kind of a goal by the last track meet in July...don't know if I'm there quite yet. Although I really have no clue what to expect. Somewhere between 5:00 and 5:30, I guess!

Very, very nice. Agreed with the last sentence of the AM. You're not ready to run that pace for the 5k but any means, but you can hold it for longer than 400. You can also run hard when you've been working too.

From Jake K on Tue, May 27, 2014 at 17:39:53 from 159.212.71.199

It might take a race or two to get used to pushing yourself so hard for a short duration. When I ran that road mile in 2012, I remember finishing and being like "that was it?"... but 60 seconds before, what was left felt like an eternity. But you'll have fun with this, and it will be a great challenge for you. I'm excited to see how these track meets go.

Those are solid times. You've definitely gotten faster. I'll be pulling for you to run sub 5.

From Burt on Tue, May 27, 2014 at 19:16:53 from 71.223.32.7

I will be embarrassed if you beat my mile time from high school.

Jason - thanks - should have been doing this stuff all along probably...it's kinda fun.

Jake - just the experience of racing other people on the track will be kinda neat, I think...and maybe frustrating/annoying; no one gets in my way in lane 1 on my home track at 5am.

ACorn - thanks! Need to keep up the momentum, and maybe there's a chance.

Burt - I'm just going to picture 1992 Burt in font of me for inspiration now.

Good stuff Joe. I'm anxious to watch your progression over the next couple months. Youre already making improvements.
