63F, 99%, thick fog.  A little ticked, because as I stepped out the door my Garmin battery read 0%.  Pretty sure I charged it recently, but it died right away.  Worst possible day for that to happen too - I still went to the track and did 6 x 800m, on short (200m active) recovery, at what I thought might be 10K effort.  I had a really specific time (3:02) that I wanted to hit, that corresponds to sub-38 pace for my race next month.  Oh well, maybe I did it, maybe I didn't.  After the intervals I did an all-out 200m sprint - pretty sure I set the new world record but the world will never know because my watch was dead.  I probably need to get a cheapo watch I can use as a back-up for timing splits.  Anyway, I got my legs moving faster than normal, so that's something.

congrats on the WR! i recommend the timex ironman -- you can get one for under $30 and it has everything you need (except for the minor detail of a GPS).

my garmin stopped holding a charge after only 1.5 years of use, so i trashed it and haven't gone back. if a $300+ watch can't make it two years, i don't want it.

nice job with the workout -- i bet you hit it just right. and as you said, the fact that you got your legs moving is what counts.

We'll just assume you were right around David Rudisha's PR for all of the reps.

+1 on allie's recommendation on getting a $20-30 Timex watch... love it especially for the track... and they last FOREVER

Ha ha... sorry I didn't mean to laugh, but that's why you will see me wearing two watches in all my run pictures.

Congradulations on the new 200 World Record!

I can do easy runs without a watch, but I can't imagine doing a track workout without one, but I've also learned what my breathing sounds like during different races so perhaps we could all benefit from more "6 x 800m, no watch" blog posts? I'd LOVE to throw my Garmin out the window, but I can't seem to do it. If they functioned better, they might be worth it.

Maybe they have some satellite images, Joe. We only need two with precise timestamps.

Like Jason said, I really can't imagine not having it. Mega props for the WR!!! You know, running those without a watch may be a blessing in disguise...

Good workout, without the watch. :) Nice world record :)

allie - thanks for the tip on timex, I will check them out. I have to admit my garmin has behaved pretty well over 2.5 yrs or so.

Jake - maybe a couple tenths of a seconds slower than Rudisha since, you know, I did 6 of them.

IJR - it all makes sense to me now!

Jason - I always hate running without a garmin but this was especially annoying. I will look into the satellite imagery - I do get the feeling I'm being watched sometimes.

Dan - I do feel recovered already - don't know if I just went too slow or maybe went the appropriate interval pace for the first time in my life.

jb - thanks, just got to get it ratified now somehow
