57F, a little rainy.  Did the ol' work 5k again this year but got my butt kicked.  Surprisingly, I had the same AP on my Garmin as last year (5:49), but had a faster time - I think they moved the finish line up a bit, so it measured more like a real 5k (3.14 miles on my watch).

After the normal shakeout in the first mile (5:51) I was already way back from several people.  Mile 2 was 5:47 and I was still in 6th, but 3 guys were coming back to me.  Got two of them early on in the 3rd mile and sat behind the other guy until maybe the 2.7 mark or so...then put on a furious (uphill) sprint, which I knew I had absolutely no chance to sustain through the line, but it dissuaded the guy from trying to match it.  So mile 3 was 5:47 and the last 0.14 was only 5:57 pace on the watch...obviously I was completely destroyed by the early kick and flailing around wildly, but it worked, so I'm good with it.

Anyway, not bad!  But geez, I don't know if I'll do this one again next year...I mean, who wants to compete in a race if it's going to be competitive?

You were only a touch off your PR!!!

This training cycle is awesome. If you can squeeze in a major work disaster on Tues/Wed, and maybe get sick on Thursday, you're looking at the 50 mile race of your life next weekend!

I think you're on to something...running during the week can really only hurt my chances. Ok, I'm off to hang out at the kids playground at McDonald's - the Mecca of virus germs.

Dang, the people you work with are fast! Would have loved to see the flailing

Good race, Joe. Sorry that your crown was taken though.

Bec - different race, but this is what my flailing looks like: tinyurl.com/krot6u4

Thanks Jason, I wasn't even close to the other 2...maybe time to hang em up!

Great race Joe. Perfect tune up for next week.

Great race and training cycle. Weather is looking good for Saturday; looks like the rain will pass through early enough in the week to allow the course to dry out in time.

Your colleagues are speedy. I think I'd beat all of mine by walking the 5K. I'm never moving to Texas. Great job flailing for 3rd, which surely isn't as easy as you make it sound.

There are over 12,000 people in our San Antonio office so not too surprising that a few could whip me soundly in a race (family and friends and military guests invited too). If anything, I had no business winning last year...

From I Just Run on Mon, Nov 30, 2015 at 07:44:13 from 108.178.73.170

Somehow I missed this race on your blog... Nice race for you but you need to find a job where those people don't have as much time to run and train!

From SlowJoe on Mon, Nov 30, 2015 at 07:48:06 from 107.77.100.77

I found out later the 2 guys in front of me in the 5k weren't employees...the company also invites family and active duty military, so I got beat by a couple of ringers! The guy right behind me was an employee though - whew!

From I Just Run on Mon, Nov 30, 2015 at 07:51:45 from 108.178.73.170

Invite me next year and I'll run "clean-up" behind you! :-)
