54F, low wind.  What a nice morning.  8 @ 7:48 AP, last 3 in the 7:20s.  I'm going to take tomorrow off (a chance to really focus on my amateur meteorology) and then a couple more short runs to shake things out on Thursday and Friday.  Travel Saturday, race Sunday.

The thing about meteorology, amateurs are as good as the pros.

I predict good weather.

From SlowJoe on Wed, Apr 27, 2011 at 10:39:39 from 131.59.200.80

IJR - after looking at all the other guesses, my guess is: mid to upper 50s for the whole race. North wind 15-20 mph. So a moderate headwind to start, and tailwind to finish.

Thanks JG - I think I agree....

Thanks Stacy!

Flat - true statement sir.

Kelli/Burt/Dale - thanks, looking forward to it either way.

From I Just Run on Wed, Apr 27, 2011 at 10:46:45 from 67.79.11.242

That doesn't sound too bad... The tailwind sounds really good! I wish I were better prepared for this race though.

Hopefully the thunderstorms stay away, because it looks like there's a chance of them popping up. At least the clouds should give some nice shade...

Hey Joe,

What's your travel plans for the race? I guess I'm just going to drive up there on Saturday (8 hrs) and drive back after the race. My original plans was to take the RV, leave Friday and maybe come home on Monday. All that fell through...I don't think the family really wants to go. I'd like to meet you on Saturday if possible.

BTW...What's your goal pace for the race?

From SlowJoe on Wed, Apr 27, 2011 at 11:05:36 from 131.59.200.82

We're driving up (without the kids, woohoo) on Saturday morning, probably going straight to the expo. Leaving after the race on Sunday. I'll email you (send a private message) with my phone number so Burt doesn't get a hold of it.

Pace-wise, my plan is to keep it anywhere in the 7:30s for the first 15 or so, then go by feel which hopefully means speeding up. I never seem to be able to stick to any of my plans though, we'll see....

From Burt on Wed, Apr 27, 2011 at 11:31:36 from 72.223.90.79

Joe, I've had your number for a long time. I just haven't called you yet.

From SlowJoe on Wed, Apr 27, 2011 at 11:35:58 from 131.59.200.82

Well now I just feel unliked. Thanks, I'll be crying myself to sleep tonight.

I had to unfriend Burt yesterday because he was picking on me and my beloved Spurs :(

Sounds like awesome temps for OKC in May, that is awesome ... and the cloud cover is a big plus too! Hopefully the winds will be friendly! Your pace plan sounds great. Historically, I almost never stick to my plan either, and it usually costs me weaker splits at the finish. The one time, I did was last October at St. George, and I got my BQ as a result of running it smart. I really stuck to my plan although I did bank a little time here and there, when I felt strong, but I was never too aggressive. Not sure if banking some time was a good thing or not, as if I would have been more conservative, I may not have needed it. As it turns out, my calves severely cramped at Mile 25 & I ran the last 1.2 miles at a 8:35 pace (was supposed to be 7:36), and crossed the finish with only 10 seconds to spare! That was the most painful mile of my life!! Anyway, believe in your plan and stick to it, especially if you have a tail wind I bet you will finish strong and be pleased with your time ... allowing yourself to get aggressive early on risks breaking down at the end! Run smart, finish strong, and have a blast!

From Kelli on Wed, Apr 27, 2011 at 13:09:54 from 71.219.96.115

A little bit of rain is always kind if nice, don't ya think?

Burt is a stalker, be careful. ;o)

From seeaprilrun on Wed, Apr 27, 2011 at 21:12:44 from 174.70.177.86

Well, 50 degrees is definitely cooler than Houston, overcast is good, rain is no problem, the wind will be lighter early in the morning, always is, and by the time it picks up it should be your tailwind. There is your weather pep talk. Sounds decent!

From SlowJoe on Thu, Apr 28, 2011 at 09:43:29 from 184.79.24.255

IJR - I thought Burt loved the Spurs

JG - appreciate the war story, I hope it keeps me grounded in the early miles.

Kelli - rain I can deal with, just hoping the thunder and lightning stay away

April - thanks, I needed that
