73F, 73%, E 14 mph.  Today was definitely no-shirt weather, even with Danielle's disapproving looks.

I just did this as a progressive effort "fun" run, and it was the right decision.  That course is definitely hillier than anything I have ever run on, and a real sweat-fest.  Here are the splits:

7:22, 7:09, 7:24, 7:15, 7:15, 7:10, 7:11, 7:10, 6:56, 7:13, 6:46, 6:48, 6:44, 0:46 (5:29 pace).

The splits don't look cleanly progressive, you'll just have to trust me the effort was -- lotsa hills meant pace was all over the place.  The highlight was a guy I was running with in mile 4 or 5 (he was gasping for air) telling me he was just on a recovery run today so might not want to pace off of him.  He dropped back  pretty quick after that...I smiled about it for awhile.  I did still manage 3rd in AG which came with a nice plaque.  And of course a cheap PR; the all-out effort will come in November in our local half.  Flatter and cooler!

Afterward, I ran the course backwards to meet up with Danielle and run her in.  We had a really good time and she passed everyone in the last tenth of a mile, including me.

Nice race slowjoe! Congrats on the 3rd place for your AG!

Great job, Joe. Definitely a smart idea to turn it into a great training run.

Congrats on a very nice training run. You should go for the win in Abilene. 1:28 might actually be conservative for you, given some of your recent training times. Congrats to Danielle as well.

Great running Joe! I agree with Flat, go for the trophy in Abilene!

I agree with JG, but not Flat, go for the win! You don't want to get beat by two girls again, that's for sure. Especially with no shirt on and no boat.

Wow! a fast-finish 1:33 without event trying! I agree with flat, you got a sub-1:28 in you going all out.

From SlowJoe on Mon, Oct 10, 2011 at 20:04:49 from 75.109.104.60

Acorn/DH - thanks!

Flat/JG - all depends on who shows up...they had a couple 1:28s last year so it would be perfect competition if that happened again

Burt - Funny, I passed a girl in mile 10 or so and they told her she was 3rd female. I was pretty pleased at the time that it meant I only got double chick'd. Who could be upset with that?

April - well, I might have cut out at most another 2 minutes with 100% effort but no more than that; I definitely pushed the last 5k. Hoping the conditions at Abilene will make up for the rest....wishful thinking maybe...

That is an awesome time with all those hills and the weather! It was so humid that day! MUGGY yucky windy weather. Most people I know that raced did not have their best days.

How do your legs feel now after running all those hills at a speedy pace?

From SlowJoe on Wed, Oct 12, 2011 at 09:35:55 from 75.109.104.60

Thanks Rye

TL - actually, they were pretty sore...I could tell that I don't ever run any real hills
