74F, S 10-15 mph, sunny.  hot.  8:17 AP.  If there is some kind of conditioning process your body goes through for running in the heat, I have not gone through it yet this year...that was kind of brutal.

Good job ramping your mileage back up after your recovery. I don't think I ever acclimate to the heat, at least my pace doesn't! Only good thing is if you run through it, it seems you magically become faster when the cooler fall conditions arrive!

For me, it takes about 2 weeks of suffering -- oh and then I still suffer, but it is tolerable. You do have to slow down, but I promise you will be speeding up like crazy when cools off in the fall ;-).

JG - I imagine we have similar climates, hopefully summer fizzles early this year since it seems to be arriving early.

Bonnie - geez, I felt like a total wimp when I saw your Sunday run/temps, especially your fast finish. You are tough! Last year was my only experience with running in the heat but I do remember feeling like superman when it finally cooled off.

I know what you mean about the heat. I think it's about the same here except more humidity....and even more down where Flat lives. If I could just recycle the sweat off my body I might be fine.

From Bonnie on Mon, May 09, 2011 at 10:55:31 from 150.135.114.78

SJ -- I hate heat, especially for running, but our bodies are incredible in their ability to adapt (although now when it gets below 70F I am "freezing" ;-)). I really do slow down by about 10-15 secs/mile during the summer ... but like JG says, by Fall you magically speed right back up! Happy running!

Joe, ditto everybody else on the heat. But you are the champion after running through the Iraqi summer last year.

From Rye on Mon, May 09, 2011 at 14:04:38 from 168.103.139.178

Heat for us right now looks like about 55 degrees. Good luck with your conditions....they appear to be extreme.

From SlowJoe on Mon, May 09, 2011 at 17:42:04 from 131.59.200.82

IJR - yeah the dry air is the saving grace up here

Bonnie - thanks, you too, and be careful running in that AZ heat.

Flat - you know, I was just looking at last year's entries and when the lows finally dropped below 80 (in October) it was pure heaven. Now the 70s feel like death!

Rye - you deserve the nice weather after your winter. Hope you can get out soon and run a little.

From seeaprilrun on Mon, May 09, 2011 at 21:06:22 from 174.70.177.86

As you know, I share your preferene for cold weather running and DIE in the heat. I better get used to it though because this year is already looking to be brutal.
