60F, 7:03 AP.  I wanted to pick up the pace a little at the end, but this was probably a bit much for 2 weeks post-marathon.  I could feel the deep fatigue (what I like to call marathon stink) in the last couple miles.  I averaged 6:44 for the 7 miles on the way back (7:00, 6:53, 6:46, 6:27, 6:45, 6:39, 6:39).  The 6:27 kicked up a little lactic acid so I dialed it back realizing I wasn't quite recovered from Boston, despite how good it felt up until that point.  Even so, this is probably the fastest I've bounced back from a full marathon.  Not sure the reason; I underperformed the race, but not by too much.

Next week is a transition week.  Probably a light CV workout on Tuesday, some strides, and a progressive run somewhere in there.  Then it's time to kick in the 5k-10k program.  I know that's what I said last summer, but, like, for real this time.

That's a good run. I feel like 7:20 is around marathon effort right now.

I am also going with the shorter distance program at least until early August. It's time!

I know Jason has said that he's looking at Philly in the fall. What's the next big race for you, Joe?

From SlowJoe on Sun, May 04, 2014 at 12:47:33 from 66.69.93.8

Jason - I was only able to put in a month or two of the faster training last fall, but it led to a HM PR. Trying to stick with it a little longer this time.

Tom - My next full will probably be in December, here in SA. They have track meets here in June and July ($1.50 a race) so pretty sure I'm going to be doing a few of those too. How about you, what's next?

From Tom K on Sun, May 04, 2014 at 14:38:22 from 71.203.20.181

Shorter races - there's not much around here until October. So it's tough to plan that out right now. Full - I'm going to try to knock out Iowa and Georgia before the end of the year. But now you've got me thinking about Texas. Hmmm.

Good running Joe. Can't wait to see your new 5K PR. I planned to kick in the 5K training last year at this same time and then crashed my road bike. Hopefully nothing happens this time around.

From Matt Schreiber on Sun, May 04, 2014 at 17:33:29 from 66.17.102.175

"Marathon stink". I'm going to have to remember that one. Getting after the 5k/10k has been intriguing. I think the longer distance PR's would follow pretty "quickly".

Tom - Keep me informed on IA. That's a border state for me..

From SlowJoe on Sun, May 04, 2014 at 18:26:52 from 66.69.93.8

Tom - they keep moving back the RnR as it's always hot every year - now that it's in December, I feel like I can take a leap of faith and try the full. We do have an extra bedroom...

IJR - let me know if you are about to run one, I will hop in there with you. Seems like there's no shortage of 5k's here once we're ready to take a shot.

Matt - yeah, I usually have marathon stink on my legs for about a month. Annoying, but worth it.

haha...but, like, for real this time...

i just came off a 5k-focused fail. why is it so hard? i don't know. but good luck with it.

nice run today. you seem to be recovering well.

From SlowJoe on Sun, May 04, 2014 at 18:41:04 from 66.69.93.8

Your speed workouts have been looking pretty dang good, allie. But yeah, definitely hard to do. I like jogging too much.

From Tom Slick on Mon, May 05, 2014 at 12:18:19 from 168.179.157.44

I would rather run a marathon than a 5K. 5ks are hard!

You have to come outta the blocks fast and continue to get faster all the way through the race!

From I Just Run on Mon, May 05, 2014 at 12:20:11 from 67.79.11.242

Tom S,

Joe can do it!!!

My problem is I start out too slow and then get slower.
