45F, calm, clear.  May not get another day like this in Abilene for about 6 months.  AP 7:58 - easy miles with 6 or 7 pickups to faster paces for 30-45 sec.  I felt really fresh and springy.

The front may arrive right during the race.  Should be nice temps, low 50s to start but the front will bring a north wind and rain -- hopefully no thunderstorms.  So it looks like I'll probably be running my second marathon in the rain too.  Good news is it'll be 10+ degrees cooler than Houston, bad news is the wind.  Don't think it'll be terribly strong; anyone that runs in this part of the country knows that the north wind is to be respected and the south wind is to be feared.  Sunday will have the north wind.  Looking good!

Think like a cyclist....draft!

From derhammer on Thu, Apr 28, 2011 at 10:07:29 from 192.156.110.34

Yeah, other than the wind the conditions look ideal. I would rather have clouds and light rain than the full sun beating down on me for 3 plus hours. Find some big hoss at your pace and run behind him.

From Tracy on Thu, Apr 28, 2011 at 10:20:08 from 209.175.177.37

Well, good luck, my man!

"Fresh and springy"...wow!

From I Just Run on Thu, Apr 28, 2011 at 10:52:50 from 67.79.11.242

My question is..."Are you wearing the orange shirt in this race?"

I think Slow Joe'sGirl may have read something into the "Fresh and springy" comment, you may need to clarify that statement... :)

From SlowJoe on Thu, Apr 28, 2011 at 11:45:31 from 131.59.200.82

Rye - not a bad idea at all!

DH - I'm definitely liking the cloud cover

Thanks Tracy

Danielle - I'm talking about my legs.

IJR - oh yes, the orange shirt will be coming to Oklahoma with me.

From SlowJoe'sGrl on Thu, Apr 28, 2011 at 11:49:14 from 184.79.24.255

Okay...I didn't have my mind in the gutter. I was just pointing out that Joe has never used those words to describe anything before.

From I Just Run on Thu, Apr 28, 2011 at 12:00:19 from 67.79.11.242

SURE......wink...wink...!

From DaleG on Thu, Apr 28, 2011 at 12:51:07 from 67.2.30.31

Awesome! I think half of my marathons have been in the rain, two of them in torrential downpours.

From I Just Run on Thu, Apr 28, 2011 at 17:24:41 from 67.79.11.242

Dang Slow Joe....I was really trying not to look but with all your talk about the weather I just couldn't help myself. Here's what I found:

From SlowJoe'sGrl on Thu, Apr 28, 2011 at 17:29:52 from 184.79.24.255

IJR -Don't worry that link is already saved in his favorites along with 10 others. I promise he's already seen it...as well as probably consulted with a meteorologist from the national weather service.

From I Just Run on Thu, Apr 28, 2011 at 17:39:06 from 67.79.11.242

Ha...ha...I figured he already knew about this one. I was just trying my best not succomb to the urge. My weak flesh gave in. :(

From derhammer on Thu, Apr 28, 2011 at 18:07:33 from 192.156.110.34

But has Slow Joe emailed the local TV station's meteorologists? That is what I did when I was trying to decide whether or not to not run Austin and instead go up to Ft. Worth a week later. They were all very nice, too. So I can say not to be obsessive but I am just as bad. :-)

I think most long distance runners have obsessive tendencies - or else we wouldn't be doing all this running in the first place.

From SlowJoe on Thu, Apr 28, 2011 at 18:30:12 from 184.79.24.255

Well like Danielle hinted at, yes, I did talk to a meterologist at the NWS about thunderstorms - I wanted to see if there was any chance we'd be weather cancelled. He said less than 5% chance of lightning cancelling the race. The wind and rain I can deal with...

Whoops, reposting this comment as me

The orange shirt and the weather saga continue. You will probably wear that shirt for the rest of your running life. I only say that because I have worn the same shirt for all 4 of my marathons. In fact, I believe that is the only shirt I have raced in for several years. I got it at Goodwill for 50 cents and it's not even really a running shirt LOL! Somebody should warn people to be careful about what they wear for their first marathon..

From I Just Run on Thu, Apr 28, 2011 at 22:23:58 from 166.205.14.2

Maybe if I go to Goodwill and buy a 50 cent Orange shirt I will be able to run as fast as both Joe and April!

From Rye on Fri, Apr 29, 2011 at 09:13:29 from 174.27.65.38

joe & april.... hope you guys wash your shirts separately. I am sending you both some new running attire!

From seeaprilrun on Fri, Apr 29, 2011 at 10:43:33 from 174.70.177.86

I don't think I could ever part ways with my aqua green shirt!

From SlowJoe on Fri, Apr 29, 2011 at 10:54:08 from 184.79.24.255

I'm glad April understands!
