84F, 5am.  The ankle was a non-issue, so I went ahead with a long run.  First 9 miles were in the 8:30s and 8:40s.  Last 4 were 8:11, 7:52, 7:35, 7:22.  AP for the entire run was 8:20.  Pretty happy with it, given the heat.

On my other foot, another painful spot has cropped up.  The heel bone is tender and sore, mostly on the inside, not underneath where PF would be.  I started feeling it on my run today and can even feel it walking a little.  Hoping it's not a "Calcaneal Stress fracture" which is the closest thing I can match to it right now, although it's definitely runnable at the moment.  I'm thinking if it was a stress fracture it would feel a lot worse.

Congratulations on an awesome 13-mile run. It is my understanding that a calcaneal stress fracture is pretty rare in a runner, so hopefully whatever is going on eases up. Take ibuprofen! Your training looks really solid-I think you are headed for an awesome marathon in Houston.

I went through a cycle of my foot feeling good enough to walk and then it hurting again. Turned out it was a stress fracture that the doctor missed on my initial x-ray. A chiropractor found it a couple months later looking at the same film.

Bottom line, just because it doesn't hurt enough doesn't mean you shouldn't have it looked at.

Great job joe! You are preparing well for that race. Pace looks great.

April - that is good to know. I could not find any other reason, in all my internet scouring, as to why it would hurt when I squeezed the sides of that heel bone. But after a day off it's definitely a bit better. I'm pondering right now whether to do an easy run after work to test it or another rest day.

Mike - where in the foot was the fracture? My understanding is that it's tough to pick up a sfx on an xray, though I guess they did with you. If it persists I will go in, if they even have x-rays here...

Rye - thanks, starting to feel faster finally.

I really hope it's not a stress fracture! I read somewhere that stress fractures show up best on an x-ray after they have started to heal. I hope it continues to feel better--do you think you possibly bruised it?

From SlowJoe on Sat, Sep 11, 2010 at 14:14:12 from 214.13.130.104

I was hoping that it might just be a bruise, though I noticed a slow onset of tenderness a week or two ago, and read that bruises usually would be on the bottom of the heel. Maybe there's just a tendon or something close by that is sore/inflamed.

Sesamoid. It's a small bone on the bottom of your foot at the base of your big toe.

I'm pretty sure they have x-rays here. They had them at Tallil and that was a COB.
