Since this is my first race back since I had my ACL surgery I decided to start out slow and try to just enjoy the run. My goal was to post a time somewhere between 1:45 and 2:00. Mile 1 was an 8:22...nice and easy. Mile 2- 7:49...starting to pick it up but just enjoying. Mile 3- 7:43. Feeling good, amazed my times were under 8 but still thinking I'd listen to my body and take the course as it came. Mile 4- 7:32. I believe it was here I had 3 ladies pass me... I decided I would hang with them as long as I could...boy I didn't know what I was in for. Mile 5- 7:55. Mile 6- 7:53. Mile 7- 7:38. Mile 8- 7:15 (wow! I can't believe I pulled that one off). Mile 9- 7:21. Mile 10- 7:33...I was starting to get really tired...but one of the three ladies kept encouraging me to hang on. Mile 11- 7:52. Mile 12- 7:35...this was one of the toughest miles for me mentally. Mile 13- 7:36...just barely keeping up with the 3. Last .1- 25 seconds. A lot stronger finish than I ever imagined. I enjoyed the race and appreciated the encouragement on the course. I loved the rain as I truly enjoy running in weather (just not wind). I was amazed at how hilly the new course was. I had no idea they had changed it and was surprised at the difficulty. Great RUN! A big thanks to Vanessa, Jill and Marissa! The 3 ladies I ended up tagging on to.
Finished 7th in my AG, right behind Jill and Marissa. Time 1:40:15 with an AP of 7:39.
