Solo climb of Mt. Wire.
It was cold and windy at the trailhead this morning, but I quickly warmed up as I made my way up the trail. My goal was not speed today, just give my legs some elevation. My legs are 100% and felt great the whole morning, but my toes are still a touch sore. I now have 3 black toe nails (both big toes and a pinky) and one of my big toes is still slightly sore. As I started to gain the ridge I could see a headlamp above me which is rare at this time of morning and I didn't see any cars at the trailhead, so I was a little surprised. Could it be MattVS?
I made decent time up the mountain, but I wasn't fast reaching the summit in 49 minutesĀ and change. The person that was ahead of me was just off the summit and checking something out and I could hear the bugle of an elk, so I took off my ipod and watched the sun come up while listening to a bull elk bugle, stomp around and grunt. I could hear the cow calling him in and he would get really excited and let out a loud bugle and then I would hear the trees and brush crunching. It was very cool and they were only a few hundred feet away. After about 5 minutes the guy (with very pretty hair) left and I stuck around for about 5 more minutes listening to the elk. Wow! It was pretty awesome.
The descent was very slow to go easy on my toe. It might have been the slowest descent of the year, but that's ok. I had a great morning. |
