I wanted to get up early and run Lake Mountain, but I got home late last night and didn't get to bed until early this morning, so I didn't wake up early, but I still wanted to run on a trail, so I went up there anyway. I didn't have as much time as I would need to get to the summit, but I figured I would push as hard as I could before I had to turn around.
I parked right at the start of the dirt road. There was a little bit of mud, but it wasn't too bad. After about a half mile there were a few small sections that were a little more muddy, but nothing serious. Just a I hit the first mile the snow started. It was so warm out and I stripped down to my short sleeved shirt and felt great. I was in snow the rest of the way and I tried to run as much as I could, even though it gets pretty steep. There is a nice track from some 4X4 vehicles and the trail is runnable even in the snow. I was able to get 3 miles up before I had to turn around, so I was about a mile from the top. I stopped and took a quick gel and then ran pretty fast back to the car. I pushed it pretty good in some sections, but it was tough where there was mud. This is a really good winter training run and I will be back for sure. Oh the views up there were great, but the air in the SL valley is just sick!
