Mt. Wire with Jun.

SLOG

We were hoping to tag Wire and then do more miles on the BST, but that was assuming some dummy or dummies had been up to the top since the storm. Well, nobody was dumb enough to do it until us today. It was a total slog in deep snow all the way to the top. Yes, it was an excellent workout, but we didn't get the miles we had hoped for. Down lower it was warm, but as we made our way up it cooled significantly and the wind picked up. It was cold.

We saw at least 30 head of deer and also a big herd of elk that we watched for about 15 minutes before they took off. Awesome. Just before the second saddle the deep snow was ridiculous and I was happy to have Jun break all the trail. Crotch deep! We finally made it to the summit ridge where it was actually in pretty good shape because it was windblown and we ran it up to the top.

The run down was fun, but the deep snow just sapped my energy. I did take a graceful fall that Jun captured on video. See it here FACE PLANT.

The conditions sucked, but we still had a great time as always. Check out Jun's blog for a few pics.

Looks like you guys were the "dummies" today. Well, I guess we all gotta take our turn. Loved the face plant - had a good laugh. As always, wish I could have made it.

Do all the trails suck or am I imagining they suck?

From Neasts on Thu, Jan 31, 2013 at 16:42:06 from 71.213.42.178

I cannot watch a good face plant and not laugh like a silly second grader! At least the snow is soft. I don't know about you but I've got enough trail-fall marks on me.

Serious question. You've been up there enough times lately, do you think Lake Mtn. is going to be runnable this weekend? I want to run it but I don't want to slog.

Matt- there are different levels of suck. The BST from the zoo or City Creek should be doable. Not great, but doable.

Neasts- Conditions won't be prime this weekend. I would think there will be a lot of post-holing. That said it is always doable, just depends on how much you want to suffer. :) Jun and I will probably get out early Sunday if you want to join.

Great video, that was an awesome face plant. Nice job running down a big snowy mountain.

classic face plant; full of grace and panache, and verbal acuity! lol

I decided to head up there this morning for fear of what it would be like with the warmer weather. Definitely I want a raincheck!
