First day of our Regional Championships today! (Also, I spent the morning taking the AP Calculus Exam!) Warmed up two laps with the team and stretched, then ran a couple more laps with gradual accelerations to get ready for the 1600m. Totally owned the race!!! I ran a PR of 5:16.28 - not quite my goal, but a PR by 5 seconds, YIPPEE! Legs were a little tired during the race, but pushed pretty well considering I had no competition (the next girl was 17 second behind me). Great race, it felt good to do well after the complete crapfulness of BYU.

Then I ran the 800m leg of the medley relay, the other girls set me up so nice, we were in second place, a ways behind Dixie, but the girl running their leg has never beat me in the 800m so I passed her coming around the 100 of the first lap, was totally ready to own the race for the team and DID IT! We got our goal of winning the race, we ran a team PR of 4:17.8 (6 secs better!) and my leg was around 2:20! So that's basically another PR, though I won't count it until I run that fast tomorrow in the open 800m! Bwah ha ha ha ha! It really gave me more confidence in the 800m, since I've been sucking at it this whole season, but now I'm ready to kill ALL those stinking Cedar girls tomorrow in both the 3200m and the 800m! Twenty point day, two victory day, double PR day, GREAT DAY!!!! YEAH!

Great First Day of the meet and congrats on the new PRs. Good Luck tomorrow and tell Holt hello for me.

Nice running Ruth! Way to set goals and go after them. V for victory

You are amazing! I could say it again and again. It was so awesome to see that fire back in your eyes. You completely dominated and it was great. Let's do it again today!

By the way, nice pic in the newspaper!

"One of the highlights of the first-day finals was the performance of Pine View's Ruth Hilton in the 1,600-meter run and on the anchor leg of the medley relay. Hilton won the 1,600 in 5 minutes, 16.28 seconds, nearly 100 meters ahead of runner-up Diana Medina. She took the baton approximately 30 meters behind Dixie's anchor runner, but won by 70 meters."

Congrats! A great double. What sort of splits did you have in the 1600? Will look for a sub-11:40 from you in the 3200 today and a big PR in the 800.

Picture-esque. That was some of the most dominatingly beautiful running I have EVER seen.

From Sasha Pachev on Thu, May 10, 2007 at 20:16:21

Very good. Looks like the 8 mile easy runs and the Dogpound tempos are starting to pay off. You have plenty of speed to run a low 11:00 3200. Unlike most high school runners, Natalie Haws from Davis runs 1600 only in 5:18, but this is enough for her to run 3200 in 11:04. She was not even on the list for the 800. I do not know how she trains, but I would be very surprised if she did not do a high amount of aerobic work. This goes to show that you can take decent but still not-stellar speed, and with proper endurance stir up some serious trouble as the distance keeps getting longer.

Your speed is good for a distance runner, but you will get destroyed by natural speedsters on the state level in the 800. However, the way you respond to distance training, as well as your splits in workouts suggest that if you continued to focus on aerobic training you could run some exceptional times in distances over 2 miles. Keep up the good work.

Nice job! I think that you are a "natural speedster" and don't think that you are going to get destroyed by anyone. I agree with Sasha in that you could run some great times in the 3200 and higher, but I think you can run some killer 800 meters. Distance runners, especially 1600 meter runners, make the best 800 meter runners, in my opinion.
