XC, (21p, 42c), easy recovery "3-miler" that was actually .53 short, ran with Ashley Judd and that was good times, got nice and muddied going under the freeway, yay! Avg. 7:29/mi. (DST 48.8)

Club run tonight, first 3 miles were pretty downhill and we took them faster, then looped over by Sugarloaf and connected down back onto Bluff. Was feeling my dinner the whole time, foot hurt intermittently throughout, also my left knee was being quite strange and achy the whole time which made me quite unhappy. Not the best run ever, I got pwned by the boys (Steve H, Steve O and Bill) just like last week, maybe by the time I graduate I'll be able to keep up with those guys, maybe. Total 7.05 miles, avg. 7:55/mi. (DST 55.9)

Good job last night. It was Hot. Keep using that sock at night! PF can be painful if you let it get away from you.

I agree with Bill 150%! PF is a very nasty injury, and people tend to keep running on it, because it starts feeling better after the warmup, but the problem is, it keeps getting worse until you can't run at all! I know you want to build a good base for fall x-c, but you need to start the season healthy and not crippled by PF. Maybe you should consider backing off the mileage now until your foot heals. Just a thought.

Maria, and others familiar with PF - do you know if it is aggravated more by pace than by mileage? My intuition tells me the pace is more of a culprit here, especially getting into competitive situations trying to hang in there with "the boys" day after day, but I am not 100% sure.

Sasha, I can't tell you for sure, because I never had a full blown case of PF - I'm so paranoid that I'm backing off every time I feel anything coming on around my heels or arches. But I've witnessed my coach battling it for months, running on it until it wasn't possible anymore, and eventually opting for cortisone shot (which did help). My guess would be that yes, pace will aggravate PF more than mileage, but if your PF is already inflamed, both are bad. I think the inflammation needs to be brought down first, with icing, Strassbourg sock, Ibuprofen and rest (or at least drastic reduction in mileage), and then a slow build up may be possible.

Wasn't Mike Kirk struggling with PF? Bill also had some issues with it. They may be much more of an expert than I am.
