Wednesday evenings are starting to become stair-interval nights at the office. Consequently, I met up with a few of my colleagues to run some stairs in order to train for the Fight for Air Climb. I commenced with the aim of running one-hundred stair repeats in my 12lbs weight vest from the first floor to the third floor of our building (i.e., to best my previous high of sixty). In summary, repeats 40-90 were really tough; however, I seemed to get my second wind after 90 and was able to fight through the tired legs to achieve 110 stair repeats. This workout took me 1:32:46 to complete and covered a 5.5-mile distance (i.e., a 16:52 pace). Plus, I went through approximately 50 oz of water and Gatorade. Needless to say, running stairs is a grind!

For my daily non-running workout, I completed 300 sit-ups, 30 push-ups, and a 100-second wall-sit.

5-minute Plank Challenge: 2:00 and 1:00 side planks both left and right

Trying-To-Go-Out-Of-My-Way-To-Eat-Healthy Daily Challenge: an apple and three baked potatoes with frozen peas and carrots on top (i.e., no more butter and gravy for Rossy in 2011)

Gravy is a pure sham! However, I do enjoy the pat of butter with my peas on top :)

Wow, that stair workout seems to be a killer, not work getting it all done.

From allie on Sat, Jan 15, 2011 at 15:37:03 from 174.23.123.195

nice job! that sounds like a challenging and very effective workout. i really need to be doing more stair stuff -- or i'm going to crash and burn in february!

From Burt on Tue, Jan 18, 2011 at 15:59:12 from 206.19.214.144

If you skip three stairs at a time, you'll finishing in three times the speed. That would equate to a 5:37 pace. (Don't worry. I did all the math.)

From Kelli on Thu, Jan 20, 2011 at 22:35:30 from 71.219.84.215

And Burt is always right when it comes to math!

WOW, that is ALL I can say. SPEECHLESS pretty much.

From Burt on Thu, Jan 20, 2011 at 22:46:44 from 72.223.84.236

Sorry the Jazz have been losing lately.

From allie on Thu, Jan 20, 2011 at 22:49:30 from 174.23.123.195

the suns are a lot worse. the suns also do not have a raja bell.

From allie on Thu, Jan 20, 2011 at 22:50:05 from 174.23.123.195

sorry, that didn't make sense. it's a disease.

From Kelli on Thu, Jan 20, 2011 at 22:51:43 from 71.219.84.215

All I know is that one of the Cardashians was at the game last night, that was ALL they showed on the news. No score, no highlights, just her testing from the front row.

From allie on Thu, Jan 20, 2011 at 22:52:45 from 174.23.123.195

boo.

From Burt on Thu, Jan 20, 2011 at 23:36:12 from 72.223.84.236

Yeah, the Suns wouldn't be in the playoffs if the season ended today.

I love Raja Bell forever for clotheslining Kobe the rapist Bryant.

From Rossy on Fri, Jan 21, 2011 at 00:14:18 from 167.138.234.18

First of all this, this is a PR for most posts on any one of my running entries; therefore, props to everyone for making this happen! Second, I echo Allie's booooo on whatever-her-face-Cardashian texting. Third, our Jazz need a win and will win in Boston tomorrow! Fourth, needles to say, besides any Stockton-to-Malone highlight, Raja clotheslining Kobe (who embodies everything that is wrong with professional sports) is the greatest play in NBA history. Fifth, I'm off to the get in some miles on the treadmill, good night now!

From RAD on Fri, Jan 21, 2011 at 00:35:05 from 67.172.229.125

I'm REALLY liking this thread. Rossy, you hit the nail on the head on all of the points. Especially the last one :) Enjoy your run! I'm just going to bed.

From Kelli on Fri, Jan 21, 2011 at 09:51:24 from 71.219.84.215

Why are you guys so mean to my LAKERS???? Burt, you know how I feel about Kobe, however, I can not leave a lifelong love of a team just because they have one stupid player. That would make me a traitor. One day the idiot will retire, and I can actually watch the games again.

From Burt on Fri, Jan 21, 2011 at 09:53:10 from 72.223.84.236

I quit being a D-backs fan when they brought Roberto Alomar aboard. Luckily he didn't last long.

From Rossy on Mon, Jan 24, 2011 at 00:33:33 from 67.107.64.146

Kelli, I cannot believe you are a Lakers fan! However, when I was in elementary school I liked the Lakers; that is, I always rooted for the Jazz, but being the tallest kid in class I always thought that their skyhooking center and 6’9 point guard were pretty awesome. In fact, from third to fifth grade I did book reports on the biographies of Kareem, Magic, and Riley. That was an entertaining Lakers team in that they always seemed to have a lot of respect for the competition and played an extraordinary game of team basketball. However, the Kobe, Artest, and Jackson Lakers are a different story. With that said, it's good that you are loyal fan Kelli and I survived the Boozer era, you can make it through the Kobe era.

Lastly, a win by our Jazz over the Lakers at the Staples Center will get them going in the right direction. Go Jazz!

From RAD on Mon, Jan 24, 2011 at 13:30:43 from 67.172.229.125

Rossy, that totally made me laugh! I was the tallest 'kid' in my class too (yes, boys and girls - at least until about 10th grade), but I still idolized the Jazz and Mark Eaton :) When I was little I wanted to be 7'3" just like Mark! I always wore his number 53 or 35 (his college #) when I played.

From Kelli on Mon, Jan 24, 2011 at 21:10:32 from 71.219.84.215

It is hard to be loyal....

From allie on Tue, Jan 25, 2011 at 23:34:01 from 174.23.123.195

cripes! the jazz are doing great right now.

From Rossy on Wed, Jan 26, 2011 at 18:21:21 from 167.138.234.21

Okay, our Jazz need to just shake off their frustration and dust themselves off (i.e., they are pressing way too much and not trusting each other), then they'll be back! As runners, we all know that sometimes you have to go through some really difficult stretches before you get stronger. Also, Coach Sloan has seen it all and will get them back to playing tough nose, pick-and-roll basketball. Before long, D-Will and the gang will be running the Suns off the court in February and on April 1st, Phil Jackson will be making his predictable post-game excuses about why his big-market team of All-Stars continues to lose in Salt Lake. Go Jazz!

RAD, by the way I'm also a big Mark Eaton fan (i.e., self-made and you know you dominate the defensive end when you make an NBA All-Star team only scoring a few buckets a game). When I always see a 5 and a 3 together, I always think of Big Mark. However, 35 is always Griffith, Dr. Dunkenstein, for me, but now I'll think of UCLA Eaton also (so this is why Eaton had to flip his digits; that is, I never thought about this).

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 26, 2011 at 18:32:19 from 71.219.84.215

Hmmmmmmmmmm....very appropriate conversation here. Can I just add something???

91-120!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO LAKERS!

From RAD on Wed, Jan 26, 2011 at 18:39:43 from 67.172.229.125

Rossy, yup! There were about 3 years in my Jr high days that Mark Eaton did a basketball camp. It was for underprivileged kids, but my mom knew how much I idolized him and so she found a way to get me in. He was always there and for a while (at least during camp) would recognize me and call me by name and just chat with me, I was in seventh heaven! I've heard his story from him more times than I think most folks would appreciate. I also have a picture of him and me - I only go to his arm-pits, but hey, I was still growing then. Either way, you are right on with the numbers he was 35 at UCLA and then when drafted by the Jazz Griff had 35 and he had to reverse to 53. I still drive past Jeremy Ranch hoping to catch a glimpse.

Kelli, whatever.... we'll be back and have another shot.

From Burt on Wed, Jan 26, 2011 at 18:58:59 from 206.19.214.144

Why are you picking on the Suns? They suck. I was being genuine when I said sorry the Jazz have been losing lately.

From Rossy on Wed, Jan 26, 2011 at 21:49:44 from 167.138.234.21

Please accept my deepest apologies Burt; that is, I still have just a little resentment toward your Suns for the 1990 playoffs when KJ hit a series-winning shot over my Jazz. :-) Talk about the childhood trauma of seeing my beloved Jazz go down in my hometown. Running, yeah it is great exercise, but it's really my therapy that helps me deal with these heartbreaks. In my running world, there is no KJ, Fast Eddie Johnson, or Steve Nash. It's a world where the offense is always by Stockton and Malone and the gritty defense by Sloan. A world where Nick Van Excel is always the floor leader of Kelli's beloved Lakers and MJ is striking out at the plate in the minor leagues. The dream world for all Jazz fans! Okay, I really need to go for a run. :-)

From Burt on Wed, Jan 26, 2011 at 22:08:58 from 72.223.84.236

I accept. Currently I'm watching the Suns lose to the lowly Bobcats because they can't get defensive rebounds and they continue to foul.

You know what my childhood trauma is. John Paxton.

From allie on Wed, Jan 26, 2011 at 22:18:04 from 174.23.123.195

losing to the bobcats? psssshht.

my childhood trauma: dirk nowitzki.

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 26, 2011 at 22:50:40 from 71.219.84.215

My "childhood" trauma (okay, I was adult): when Karl Malone played for the Lakers. I actually became a Jazz fan that year.

From Burt on Wed, Jan 26, 2011 at 23:38:36 from 72.223.84.236

And the Suns lost. Typical.
