5:00 am.  I wanted to do some sort of speed work today but wasn't sure what to do, I didn't really feel like a long tempo run, and 1 mile repeats are to long.   So I warmed up for 4 miles wondering what to do and decided to do 1/2 mile repeats with 1/2 mile rest in between, just cause it's easier to keep track of than 1/4 mile rests :)  Ended up doing 6 X 1/2 mile.  I really had no idea where to start my pace so I kind of experimented each time, first set started at 5:42 and worked up to 5:30, last set started at 5:21 working up to 5:10.

 I wasn't sure I wanted to mention this, but it's been disturbing me all morning, since this is a public forum I'll try to be a bit subjective on my personal feelings on the subject, but this morning after my run, like I often do I went down to the hot tub to relax and stretch, when I got in there were 2 other guys in the hot tub standing awfully close to one another, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and figured maybe they were just having a conversation and couldn't hear each other over the sound of the water fall.  Then they started massaging each other and quickly the situation got very un-comfortable, I left.  So here is the question,  personal believes aside on the subject.  Is it appropriate for 2 people, man and woman or man and man to be getting that close in a public hottub.  Granted, if it were a man and a woman I probably wouldn't have been as un-comforatble and may not have gotten out as quickly.  But fact of the matter is, if I was there with my own wife I wouldn't share affection like that in public fearing it might offend someone and the fact than now, I have to share a locker room with two people that I saw like this makes it a bit awkward.  I might as well go share the womens locker room now.

Sorry, I'm not usually one to start a controversy but just thought I'd throw it out there.

Rob, I have noticed your post sand how detailed they are and how you track your HR. I am trying to learn more on the importance of HR and what it should be in a marathon run verses what it should be in training. I was told 80% HR in my marathons but over the last couple it was alittle higher and I was fine, just wondering if you could fill me in on some of it. Thank you, I am 47 yrs old and max HR should be 173, 80% is 138 but feel fine when running at alittle higher. Thank you. Marlin

Marlin, I have put together a pretty cool spreadsheet that will tell you about where your HR should be for different efforts, Recovery, General, Long run, Marathon pace, LT, and VO2 max. All you do is fill in your min and max HR and it calculates the rest. I can share that with you if you PM my your e-mail address. The tricky one is finding accurate Max HR, you can use the simple equation using age and subtracting 40 or what every, but the best way is to go out to a track and max it out by doing intervals, or hill sprints.

I have to agree that there is such a thing as too much PDA sexual orientation aside. It's just awkward!!

Also I am interested as well in the HR stuff. I've got my resting HR (55) but my Max HR is still a mystery to me. I've tested it a couple of times but got different numbers. The first was 192 which I know is high, and the second was 184. So I'm not sure.
