20 miles from Smithfield down towards Hyde Park, and then up Smithfield
Canyon through the campground and back the same way. Interesting run...
Did the first 6 in just under a 7 minute mile. Just before mile 8 pains
started shooting through my left achilles and up my calf. I slowed way
down.
I had placed water at mile five, but thought I'd be fine until the
campground where they have a well with a hand pump. Over the past few
years I have loved running up there, taking a breather at the well while I pump
it and drink the water out of it. It is always great tasting, cold
water. Unfortunately, when I got there they have a sign that says
"Do not drink". IT was 77 degrees, gone 10 miles, and still
didn't have any water. So I turned around and ran down to the water I
placed at mile file. Made it and stopped at mile 15 and drank the entire
quart water bottle. Then slowly jogged the remaining 5. Before I
ran I weighed in at 204.2. When I got home, I was at 194.2 (lost 10
pounds, even with drinking the 32 oz water bottle). A bit dehydrated.
Overall it was a good first of four 20 milers before the St. George.
It was slow but I felt I got a good workout. Only 8:14/mile average pace.
